Hi All: I've been taking 100 mg of spiro for the last 3 months, with my dermatologist claiming wonders. I'm also using Proactiv, the only thing that slightly has helped clear up this alleged hormonal acne. I am not too happy right now, as I do not see a difference with the spiro at the 3-month mark, but when I called the dermatologist's office, they assured me that sometimes the spiro starts really working after the 3 month mark. I am going to see the dermatologist tomorrow and let her know that there's no difference yet. Has anyone had this experience and would possibly 150 mg make a difference? My husband wants me to go to a plastic surgeon and get microdermabrasion on all my acne spots, and just go every few months for this procedure.

All and all, this just seems very depressing as I have some acne on my face, lots on my back and some on my torso area, that just never seems to go away. It seems like the acne bacteria stays there no matter how many over the counter acne meds I put on it.

Anyone have suggestions or a pep talk for me? It would be appreciate!

Rochelle

Hi Rochelle! I wish I had some advice for you on the Spiro but I know nothing about it. But I find it interesting that you said "alleged" hormonal acne. Didnt the Derm do a hormone test on you or send you to your PCP for a hormone test? If not, then why does the Derm assume its hormonal? From what I have read, Spiro is only good for hormonal acne.

Have you tried the regimen? If not, why? Can you tolerate BP?

You might want to try using Dial White for your body acne. It's an antibacterial soap and thats how I got rid of mine. Dont use the body wash though. Use the bar soap. Body washes have alot of perfumes and other skin irritants in them and can aggravate your acne. Do you use a loofa sponge or one of those puff thingies? Those hang in the shower and stay wet and grow bacteria and then we use them our body and cant figure out why we have body acne. When someone told me that, I went straight to the bathroom and threw mine away.

I am not familiar with microderm but I know several posts I have read said it made the acne worse. Its good for scarring I guess but if you still have active inflamed acne then you may want to rethink that approach. Research it. Educate yourself please!

I know acne is over whelming sometimes but finding something that works is a process of trial and error. Read everything you can especially when its about the kind of acne you have. Knowledge is power and will make the process shorter. Hang in there dear! You have a husband that obviously loves you if he is willing to support a decision like microderm. Be thankful for that. Alot of people are alone in their battle against acne with no one to support or encourage them. Lorrie
