None, these lamps emit as much UV as normal light bulbs, they are safe. The paper posted said they used no eye protection for this very reason. I get more exposure to UV walking to class.

True, the relatively low level of UV is not usually an issue (although 14 hours is seriously pushing it, for example the dermalux is only rated eye safe for 4 hours on UV output).

But the real problem is that the human retina has photactive pigments that are activated by the violet light. These lamps produce manyfold more violet, and it has similar effects to UV. You *must* block these out almost 100% when using the lamp. They generate free radicals in your eye and they will over time damage your retina with no hope of recovery. You may well go blind.

Even 470nm blue light is thought to be somewhat dangerous.

Well, the 14 hour exposure was a one time test.

Another interesting thing for anyone interested in this stuff.

It's easy to build a DIY spectroscope:

Neither advisable nor necessary on accutane.

Accutane is one of the very few drugs specifically listed as contraindicated.

Hi Leo,
Just joined the forum. Since your original post, have you been using your custom setup consistently and what have been your results so far?

Thanks,
dizx

Would it be very hard for a NON technical person (like me) to build the kind of bulps that Leo bought from these small things:

And are they the right ones? Wolfy, Leo or anyone?

Leo that is so AWESOME that you did all that research and took matters into your own hands, and then shared that with the rest of us! Thank you. I bought a photo rejuvenation light (a red one) that cost about $400. I have to say, it's really good, but maybe i could have saved a lot of money! (It's not for acne though, it's more to heal and repair skin).

Thanks again for the post!

hi,

I also want to buy 4 of these (UVA) YL-UV-0138 / 38 UVA (Ultra Violet) LED Mini Spot Light. And build them into one lamp.
But i haven't heart anything from results. anyone who used these bulbs. And who have good results. And are these bulbs strong enough to produce enough power.

(Is er hier ook iemand uit nederland die intresse heeft in deze lampen en met wie ik samen kan kopen waardoor er misschien nog wat korting te krijgen is pm me.)

I'am from holland. so please don't blame me for my bad english.
