I went to the doctor about two and a half weeks ago and was diagnosed with a UTI and I was wondering if anyone else, mostly all of you ladies out there, have had this since starting accutane? I read online about how accutane can cause urinary discomfort, but it did not go into a deeper explanation. I'm in extreme discomfort and have been for the last two months. I've had bladder infections before, but this time it is 100 times worse. Anyways, I've tried going on the antibiotics, they didn't work. So I went to a vitamin store and took the all natural alternative that is supposed to work on your tract infection, but that didn't work either. So basically, one of my friends told me about this stuff called Azo, it is supposed to relieve the pain, but not take away whatever the infection may be. It does take away the pain, but only for a little while. I need some feedback, please please help!

Thanks so much.

Hello, I am so sorry to hear about the UTI, I know how painful it can be. I've had definite days where it feels like a UTI is coming on since I've been on Accutane and I slam the cranberry juice. I don't know if you've tried that or not, probably have, but, just in case, if you go and get at least 2 of the bigger bottles of cranberry juice (not cocktail) and drink a bottle a day (I know its alot, but its almost always worked for me) What antibotics were you on and how long did you take them for? I really really wish I could help, because trust me, i've had my share of UTI's and I know where you're coming from. I wish you the best of luck and hopefully it goes away! wink.gif

Take Care,
Jessica

Ugh, I'm so tired of having this! Anyways, I've tried using cranberry juice, I actually drink it every day anyways because I love it, but I don't buy the cocktail form. I always buy the pure, real cranberry juice, without all of the sugars and whatnot. They come in small/medium bottles at Trader Joe's so I'm set. But other than that, the antibiotics I was using did absolutely nothing for me; I was on them for 3 days, she only gave me a three day supply. I'm not sure what the name of them was and unfortunately I threw away the bottle but I'm going back to see what they say about it all. I don't know what to do because I really don't want to have to stop taking accutane and if accutane is the cause for all of this and I continue taking it, I'm not sure if it will cause permanent damage in my urinary tract. Ugh.
Thanks for the reply Girlie!

You know I have been experiencing the same thing. Never even thought it was because of the accutane! I was on cipro for 5 days and was fine while I was on the antibiotics, but as soon as I went off it was back, I can feel the symptoms right now...Ugg. wacko.gif

I took this other antibiotic from my doctor about a month ago, it didn't work; so she put me on this other stuff, which I'm on right now, it's called Nitrofurantoin Monohydrate...she gave me a 7 day supply, and I only have 2 days left. I don't know, but it doesn't seem to be working. It seemed to have worked for a day and a half, but I can feel the symptoms a lot again, this seriously sucks. I don't know what it could be. Are you going back to the doctor for more antibiotics? If so, ask your doctor if it could be a symptom that can occur while on accutane. My dermatologist nor my primary physician have ever heard of it developing from accutane, but I had read online that accutane causes urinary discomfort, as well as reading about it on this website. It seems to be fairly common for females on accutane.

I'm sorry you're going through this. Don't have any advice seeing as I've got different plumbing, but I hope you get things sorted out. smile.gif
