After reading about the possibilities of accutane even in low doses I'm keen to try it. I've had mild to moderate acne for over 15 years and started with my current Derm. over a year ago. I first asked about accutane then out of frustration but he seemed to ridicule the idea thinking it would be neglient to use accutane for my mostly comedonal acne. He put me on antibiotics for a little while and differin up through now and my skin has definitely improved but it gets a lot of comedones some of which inevitably become blotchy.
Am I unreasonable in being unsatisfied? How would I go about finding a new derm that'd consider some form of accutane even in a low-dose? I have a list of derms within my insurance plan. Should I call all their offices first and ask if they ever prescribe it for mild acne or is that gonna put me on some Dermatolgy no-fly list? Is there a website that gives patient ratings of individual doctors?

Thats what I did. One derm acted as if Accutane was cyanide and my current derm thinks its wonderful and I do too. I called and ask if they precribed it and how liberal they would be.

Get the yellow pages, look up derm's and go to their websites (or google their names to see if they have one). That is how I found my current derm (almost 2 years ago), and he is wonderful.
I had persistent but mild/mod acne for 20 years. He suggested accutane at my first visit with him. I was too afraid to take it then. For a year, we tried other things. When I was ready to do accutane, he happily prescribed it for me.
I wish I had taken it when he first suggested it!
