I had acne for the past four years and my ex-Dermatologist just gave me Oral Antibiotic, BP and cleanser. It helped to keep my acne under control but didn't stop the random outbreaks (cysts and nodules at times)
Currently, i am seeing a new Dermatologist at our National Skin Centre. I told him my acne history and the medications i took before . Although i am currently on tropical Isotreinoin , at times cysts and nodules are still popping up on my face (1-3) and 1-4 on my body. They are giving me scars on my forehead and cheeks. He said that my acne is genetics (sucks). I am worried that once i stop using tropical Isotreinoin and antibiotics, my acne will come back in full force.
I asked him about accutane and he told me that he is placing me on 2 months of Erythromycin and Benzamycin before giving an option of taking accutane. Although I am happy for that i can stop my acne once and for all , i am worried that taking it may be a bad choice.
What is your take on this? To try accutane out? Keep using tropicals for life ?

If you want to try and avoid future scarring, I would suggest Accutane. I wish I would have done this 5 years ago before my skin got really bad. Long term side effects are rare and for most people it really works! I know 6 people in my life (not on this forum) who have taken it and loved it. Only you can make the decision, but I can tell you that after being on Roaccutane for 1 week, it feels like the best decision I have ever made.

Why not take it? You have scarring and its the only thing that will kick your acne in the butt. Forget this BP crap you gotta apply twice daily that does not go for the real culprit the sebaceous glands.

I would venture to say that accutane is much safer than the years you will spend on antibiotics subsequently breeding super strains of antibiotic resistant bacteria within your body. I spent 2 years on antibiotics including the strongest of all-erythromycin. My skin became resistant to all antibiotics. They worked well at first, but you have to take them continuously for consistent results. I finally tired of them all, and started accutane 29 days ago. I'm excited for the results I will get, and the side effects have been easily manageable.
Good luck in your decision making process.

I agree with everyone else.
Antibiotics will only help for so long or may not help at all and your risking yourself more scars.

Ditto. I agree with everyone too. Antibiotics and topicals don't cure acne; they merely treat it...if they do at all. Accutane is unofficially the miracle cure for acne.

ya.....totally easy decision here. Accutane. It is the ONLY cure. There is nothing else....other products will just treat your acne and mostly, the arent that effective. Accutane is extremely effective on nearly everyone who uses it regardless of how bad or light their conidition is. Accutane is amazing.

Its your decision, you shouldn't be asking other people's opinions. Go do the research on it and figure out if the possible benefits out-weight the possible side effects for you. If they do, go for it. If they don't, don't. Its that simple.
