I really hate shaving because it causes my skin to dry and go really red, plus i get more acne. Instead i just trim it. But my problem is when my beard grows long i get more acne around my face usually the chin and cheeks. What can i do? shave or not shave trim or not trim.

i have the same problem. i used to shave with an electric razor, but that was waaay too drying on my skin. so about three weeks ago i decided to grow out my beard. i still washed with a very drying cleanser around my jaw and chin area. this led to flakes and dry skin around that area, but i didn't worry about it because i couldnt really see what was going on there (the hair was hiding it). i shaved yesterday (with a blade now, gently, because it exfoliates my dry skin) and found a bunch of tiny whiteheads along my jaw line. this was definitely caused by those flakes mixing with the oil and dirt on my chin. anyways lol... my suggestion is to shave everyday to every other day with a blade because i think you're problem may be similar to mine. use a gentle scrub in the shower before shaving to wash some dead skin off, then shave gently, and follow up with a moisturizer when dry. hopefully this helps.

I have the same problem but it seems to have been solved by using an electric razor. Having a beard definitely seems to slow down the skin shedding process though so I have found it can cause more pimples. However, they are usually trivial pimples and not the big juicy ones that hurt to touch so it doesn't really bother me. Plus beards are cool
