SkyRain's Beauty Skin Diary

It's been 8 days now since I started my 15-min/day Beauty Skin treatments. I should describe my skin condition. Most of my problems (blackheads, clogged pores, whiteheads) are located around the t-zone area. My skin is also mildly oily, and I have a lot of icepick scarring on my cheeks and nose. I've had acne, in one form or another, for 21 years, and I've tried almost everything to clear it up.
So far, I have not noticed any unusual changes in my skin condition. My skin started to look much better a few days ago (I was pleased with the look of my pores yesterday), but today I woke up and it looks like my blackheads are worse and I've developed a few lovely whiteheads around my nose.
CONCLUSION: No change in skin condition. Typical good and bad days. I know it's way too early, but the Beauty Skin box does say some people will begin to see results in 7 to 12 days. I think that's asking too much, so I'm of course going to go the full 3 month treatment. I will post in another week.

I haven't noticed any changes since last week. I've continued to break out in all the usual places, and my comedones have not decreased. As usual, I have good and bad days. I should note that I've switched to using a cleanser called Spectrojel, which is supposed to be for sensitive and oily skin.
CONCLUSION: No changes. I haven't had any negative side effects.

I hoped to see some small signs of improvement by now, but unfortunately, that is not the case. My skin condition hasn't changed since starting treatment.
CONCLUSION: No change. But still over two months to go.

That's not a known symptom of this kind of treatment.
IMO probably coincidence. Dry lips are usually caused by saliva- doctors recommend petroleum jelly (vaseline) for that because it tastes of nothing and so you stop licking them!

Can't wait for the weekend so I can - hopefully - have time to heal.

It's been a very bad week for my skin. I've had to quit the SpectroJel gel cleanser, as it appears to be responsible for breakouts all over my face. I never really felt like my skin was clean after using it. I'm still on the lookout for a decent (foaming) cleanser. After stopping it, my face is slowly healing. So at this point, four weeks into the treatment, my skin looks worse than when I started.
CONCLUSION: SpectroJel may not have helped. Still 2 months to go. Trying to remain patient.

It's amazing how quickly your skin can improve within a week. However, I switched to a new cleanser - Neutrogena Rapid Clear Oil-Removing Foaming Cleanser - so I don't know if it's that or the Beauty Skin, or a combination of both. I lather the cleanser on my face for a few minutes and then use a wet cloth in a circular motion to lightly exfoliate, then rinse off. Regardless, whiteheads are appearing less often, my skin is less oily, there are less blackheads, and my pores seem smaller. My nose is the worst place. I'm hoping this won't be one of those phases and I'll suddenly have a massive break out again.
CONCLUSION: Nice improvement, but it could be the Neutrogena cleanser. If the Beauty Skin is helping, I'd imagine there should be more improvements to come.

I think the blackheads and whiteheads are probably the light, cleansers don't do that much by and large on those.
You're probably due a breakout in the next couple of weeks, but on average it will be smaller than the last breakout you would have had. Don't get too excited yet(!)
Sounds good I think.

I'm using mandelic acid to clear up blackheads.
It's really working here, & I hope it clears you too SkyRain! Don't give up!

We are now using 'Sunnies eyesheilds' (red) which are more durable/smaller/able-to-be alcohol-wiped then the aluminum foil covered/foam-rimmed swim googgles. 'Sunnies eyesheilds' have a hard nose bridge which makes them easier to put on face then the eyesheilds that came with the light as the two eye-covers do not move independently.
The goggles come in a variety of fun colours and can be found on the manufacturers website www.lucasporducts.com.
Ours were purchased at a local tanning salon. We made this change because spots were continuing to form under the foam rim of the swim goggles and within the area of that did not receive light.
The hand held Lumiport has been very helpful with this but the smaller sheilds are best.

I don't think there has been much improvement since last week, though I had been exfoliating too harshly so my skin isn't as red now. I'm definitely feeling more positive. I'm still breaking out with whiteheads here and there. The blackheads on my nose are being stubborn, but I will look into the mandelic acid you recommended, DeeAgony.
Thanks all for the encouragement.
CONCLUSION: No big change since last week, but skin isn't looking too bad.

I find that less is definitely more. You definitely don't want to make your skin red.
Exfoliating may make your skin look better temporarily but can make no differerence or even make your skin worse in the long run.

There's been no big changes since last week. I seem to be breaking out less, but sometimes I go through these phases. The blackheads on my t-zone, especially my nose, do not seem to be affected by the Beauty Skin. This week my nose is looking worse, and I'm really self-conscious about it.
If things don't improve, would the the lamp be worth the price tag? I would have to say no. I'm trying to look for changes because I want to justify this expensive purchase, but if I look at it objectively, improvements - if any - have been subtle, and as I've said before, my skin goes through good and bad patches. Maybe I'm just asking for too much.
CONCLUSION: Less breakouts, but not significant. Blackheads untouched as they've appeared worse this week. Still over a month to go.

It's been a good week for my skin. I did have to extract some of the blackheads on my nose because they were getting so annoying, but it definitely helped. The whitehead count has decreased, and I've actually gone a few days without a single new one. I'm hoping that the summer won't affect my skin too much because I work outside a lot and have to apply loads of non-comedogenic sunscreen. There's not much to complain about this week except for the still stubborn blackheads.
CONCLUSION: A good week with a definite decrease in breakouts. Let's hope this continues.

FWIW I usually leave my blackheads alone. They're going to naturally all fallout anyway; takes 4 months or so maybe.
Funny story, I went to a derm for my bacne a while back and he was seriously wondering if I had acne at all, because he was looking at my face and couldn't see a single blackhead or whitehead(!) The lamp had completely wiped them out. I'd screwed up his diagnostic criteria. Without the lamp though, there would be dozens of them.

Thanks, Wolfy, for your comments. This week I had a few more breakouts (six whiteheads), but they're mostly around the edges of my face, especially my jawline. I suspect it may be because the Beauty Skin light isn't reaching those areas as well as the rest of my face. Maybe I should slowly move my head back and forth when using it to cover those areas. Also, I'm trying to sleep on my back, but I often roll over on my side so my face is resting on the pillow. (I do change my pillow cases often.) The blackheads on my nose haven't changed though, and the old ones I extracted are still coming back. Stubborn bastards.
CONCLUSION: No real big changes since last week, just a few more whiteheads. It's not so bad though. No reduction in blackheads yet.

I had about four whiteheads last week. I'm quite disappointed that the numerous blackheads/clogged pores on my nose just do not seem to be responding to treatment. I've had blackheads for 23 years, which have wrecked havoc on my pores, and I've tried so many treatments. Why should I be surprised?
CONCLUSION: Skin is about the same since last week. Still no reduction in blackheads (one of my major annoyances).
