Beginning the log -

I'll be starting my third week on Claravis tomorrow: 80 mgs a day split into two 40 mg doses, for four months. This is technically 1.6mg/kg (I engulfed myself in research before I started; fear-inspired knowledge). I've had acne on and off (more on in the last five years or so...I'm 26) for, oh, eleven years, maybe? Rounds of antibacterials, topicals...blah blah blah...quit working on the bastards, and convinced that life-long use of medications isn't good for oneself, decided to try this. I hope it is the saving grace...

My derm also was insistant on 25 mg/day of doxapin, an antidepressant - because I've had a history of depression. I was most concerned about the emotional side effects...has anyone experienced pronounced side effects??? I haven't outside the normal wax and waning month to month...

I'm also experiencing the much anticipated dryness...lips (putting balm on almost every fifteen minutes!), my face is peeling off, and sunscreen is absolutely necessary...I'm using Dove Sensitive bath bar in the morning, Burt's Bees' lotion, Origins in the evening, with more lotion...

I'm vegan, too...in part because of the potential for high blood pressure...

Any advice on coping with the side effects, and what the future holds for the next three and half months?

Thanks!

So today...Feburary 28, third week on claravis

My lips are peeling, bad. Had to spot jojoba oil on my face this morning before makeup (Almay - Smart Shade) because Burt's couldn't keep up with the flakiness. But it seems that, close-up, my face seems smoother? Smaller pores? Maybe it's my imagination.

Yep, it's just a generic brand. Accutane itself is simply the name brand. The actual drug is isotretinoin.

Good luck, barefooted!

thanks!

Today was my second doctor's appointment. The timing's messed up from my last appt. because they wrote the rx wrong, and I couldn't get it filled until the next-to-the-last Last Day. So I have to wait almost two weeks before I can do labs and answer questions online and get the rx filled. Bah! Needless to say, the timing logistics of this thing are crazy, and a popular soapbox with my dr., who would rather be going out the door than coming in.

I smoothed jojoba oil on my face last night before bed, and awoke with less flakes than usual. Bought a lip balm with an spf as well.

All is well otherwise.

I start my fourth week tomorrow. Bloody nose today. My skin itches, my arms in particular. My lips are still cracking, and despite every night with jojoba oil on my face, I still wake up with flakiness.

I hate bloody noses.
