I'm as close as it gets to go on accutane, i tried Everything else. Had Terrible acne at 15 and now im 21 and still have acne but its moderate now. First i had it on my face from 15-19, and then boom, at 20 it spread onto my back/chest and its slowly going away on my face. My mom had NO acne but my dad had it mild..and im more on my moms side..

Is there anyone that has outgrown their acne?

I sure haven't. For me I had mild acne as a teen then when I was 28 it came back as cystic! Acne isn't something you outgrow I don't think. It involves your hormones/diet etc..a lot thing effect it.

i was told that most ppl who have acne as teens do eventually outgrow it but obviously there are some that dont unfortunately. when ur hormones start going crazy you produce more oil which leads to acne, once ur totally through with puberty and yr hormones settle down u dont produce as much oil and so the acne clears up. could be wrong just what ive heard!

im sorry to say that it may be mid to late twenties until u know if u will 'outgrow' it, or if u will have adult acne.

21 is still too young to say i think.

good luck,

tim

I grew into acne. I barely had it as a teen, it just got worse and worse in my 20s. Now I'm 25 and my chin is just a nightmare *shudders*

Whether or not anyone else or you outgrows acne is irrelevant in my opinion.

If you have a problem NOW, treat it, take care of it. Don't wait years. Why would you?

Use the best medical intervention that you can. Go to a skin specialist and get a prescription of accutane. WHY the hell would you wait?

Most likely it will work well. It may "cure" you permanently - or at least buy you enough time so you do grow out of it.

If you're like me, it won't "cure" you but will still be very, very worth while. WHen I've taken it, it totally cleared me for 5 or more years. Believe me, this was an excellent result! After that, it started coming back, but slowly and much better than before. Then after 10 YEARS, I took accutane again and had even better resulsts - more than 5 years of clear and slower and better return.

You'll most likely grow out of it, but even if you don't accutane is very much worth while. Do it, get it done.

Um... because of potentially serious side effects?

If it is really a nightmare, I tend to agree. Get it taken care of if you can. But I can see reasons for waiting... especially if it's not bad on your face.

I have had almost the exact same acne 'pattern' as you.

At age 14-19 I had it almost exclusively on my face, and managed to keep it manageable with some minocycline + duac.

Around age 20 it got better on my face and has spread to my back/chest. I'm 21 now and my chest is getting a little better, but my back is as bad as its been.

I'm 24, and still planning on growing out of it. Some might call that denial.

Does anyone know if its possible that accutane can disrupt the whole 'growing out of it' cycle? Say five years down the line I would have grown out of it naturally but after going on tane it messes with something and I end up never outgrowing it. Scary thought...

Scary and completely unsubstantiated. Don't worry about fabricated horror scenarios; just do the best you can with what you've got. For me, if I have to take Accutane until the day I die, I'll gladly do it. wink.gif

You know, I don't believe in such a thing as in "outgrowing" acne..I think some people are lucky. Besides would u rather wait, or take accutane and possibly shave months/years off of your suffering.

i got acne when i was around 13 it got awful nasty around 15-18 changed my diet and every other positive thing i could do, and im now 20 and still have mild acne, seriously i cant quite see any signs of growing out, i mean if i reverted to old habits my skin would go cystic again, so i doubt ill grow out of it. By the way does anyone know what actually changes in the body of a person when they out grow acne, because maybe if we knew what that was there would be a way of fast tracking that now??
