The only cream I can use at the moment is aqueous cream. This stuff is the only cream which doesnt make my face feel like its on fire, however, it is VERY heavy and greasy. By and large I will apply the cream and about 2 hours later my skin will be bone dry so I feel the heaviness is needed.

But I'm getting worried about the fact that aqueous cream would ordinarily make me break out BIG TIME. I'm starting to think that if I keep using it my skin won't clear up (only on day 13 so only experience dryness so far, no clearing). I'm especially worried that it will stop the blackheads from clearing.

Am I being an idiot?

i used cetaphyl and found it pretty think and greasy but i recently switched to complex 15, it's my #1 choice for life now, it doesnt sting or make me red and inflamed, it moistuizes adequetly for accutane, and it's light and quick absorbing, i have the tube right here, it says non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, non-greasy, no oil or lanolin etc etc, if you're still worried about clogging your pores, use a 2% salicylic acid face wash or gel to break down the stuff in your pores and get rid of the dead skin cells, i think it's important to moisturize so u dont accumulate a lot of dead skin cells that dried out, they'll end up clogging your pores big time and lead to more acne

Thanks for the replies guys!

Is cetaphyl american? I've never heard of it here in the UK. I really cant use ANYTHING on my face besides aqueous cream. Even my pre-accutane gentle fragrance free moisturiser makes it burn like hell so I think a salicylic acid face wash would just irritate it too much. I've tried about 5 different extra gentle calming moisturisers, all with the same effect. So I guess I dont have much of a choice in terms of what I put on my face, but it sounds like its still possible to block up your pores whilst taking accutane and I KNOW aqueous cream would ordinarily block me up big time. Not really sure if there's any point me taking it now! The accutane clears the pore and the aqueous cream just blocks them up again!!

It hasnt happened yet but I'm worried that the aqueous cream is going to stop te accutane from working. Its the only cream my skin can tolerate, but its comonogenic for sure (its basically lard!).

people with very oily skin who cake on layers of makeup and creams daily can still have relatively clear skin because acne has a lot to do with follicles collapsing in on thmesleves, sticking together and trapping sebum, dead skin cells and keratin (pigment...i'm pretty sure..), and bacteria, accutane helps regulate the follicles and gets them to function properly in addition to decreasing sebum, and subsequently decreasing bacterial proliferation in the follicle, moisturizing will prevent unsightly patches of dry skin and keep your skin healthy so it can fight infection, acne, and the elements, sebum is actually good for your skin, it creates a barrier against water loss and keeps your skin at a specific healthy pH, you shouldn't neglect moisturizing, if complex 15 isnt available in the UK, i suggest ordering it online cuz it's the last moisurizer you'll ever try, it's cheap and it sounds like you've already wasted tons of money trying to find something, complex 15 had phospholipids (what the cells' outer membranes are composed of and lost throughout the day from exposure), it's like 10 bucks but i'd buy it for $50 if that was the price, good luck !!

if your moisturizer says "non-comodegenic" on it, that means it won't clog your pores.

hope that helps!

I finally went to a dermatologist, who has prescribed me "PanOxyl' and "Tetracycline." When I asked him about skin-care products, he actually recommended washing (and hence moisturising in one step) with Aqueous Cream! I was sceptical, especially since it essentially looks like a big tub of grease, and did notice one spot pop up the following day. However, that was probably just bad luck. However, I decided to stop using it and instead starting using "Simple" cleansers and moisturisers. However, my skin has since become incredibly dry and uneven. It seems like the dermatologist knew what he was talking about! I am going to start using it again, hoping that it is relatively non-comedogenic, as a one step cleanser and moisturiser. Below is the product description, which certainly suggests that I (and you!) can use it as such:

For topical use as an external skin cleansing agent and as an emollient for softening and soothing skin. (Essentially: For use as a skin cleanser and moisturiser.)

Good luck, my thoughts are with you!

Does Accutane cause your skin to peel a bit more than ussual? i feel not only does it dry but in combination with some products i use it peels a lot more. and the dead skin cells lying aroundwill lead to more breakouts. dead skin cells + lots of moistoriser is an experimenet went bad.
