I'm going to be starting my first Accutane treatment tomorrow. Finally! I'm a bit nervous though, because of all the side-effect stories I've heard, but frankly I think it'll be worth it. My facial acne has never been horrible, but the acne on my back has always been bad. I can't wear bathing suits or tank tops in public without feeling self-conscious =\ I've basically lived with it all my life, and I honestly can't wait for it to be over.

My doctor is starting me on a 10 mg regimen, since I weigh only 100 lbs. I really hope it'll work just as good as a high doasge would. I'm also wondering how sensitive my skin will get. Is it really that bad? I have a pretty dark complexion, and when I go tanning, I can stay in the sun almost forever without getting burned. Soo, for anyone who's on Accutane, do you think it would be okay for me to stay in the sun for maybe half the time I normally do?

Okay well, wish me luck!

Day 1

(10 mg/ twice a day)

Everything has been normal so far. I started taking Vitamin B, E, and C suppliments since I can't take regular multivitamins anymore. Hopefully it'll boost up my energy a bit.

Hmm, the only thing that feels different so far are my lips. They feel dry, but not neccessarily chapped? Mann, I hope it doesn't get that bad.

Day 2

10 mg/twice a day

Just took the second pill today. I'm not noticing any changes with my acne, but I guess it's better than breaking out more ;P I haven't had any sideffects yet except for terrible heartburn, but I'm not entirely sure if it's from the Accutane. Maybe it could be from all the vitamins I've been taking?? Swallowing the pill with milk, and drinking tons of water seem to help a bit.

Hope to see some changes soon!

Day 3

Whoa, my face is really red. Well, it was much more red when I came out of the shower, but man, I was not expecting that. Also for some reason I think my skin is actually darker. Looks like a got a tan or something haha. But besides this, no dry skin yet, and my heartburn actually went away. I also noticed that I'm starting to break out slightly more. But it's nothing make-up can't take of ;]

For me my skin got burnt pretty bad if i ever went out in the sun on tane. But that might just be my skin is different from yours. You might get burned or might not but i'd just be weary on getting in the sun, it sucks when you get burnt lol.

Good luck on tane!

Day 6

Ahhhh IB. It's not as bad as I thought it would be though. It's just real annoying to cover up with make-up ;\ Anywho, things have been the same. I haven't gotten any dryness yet, or side effects. I guess I've been more emotional that usual, but I don't know if I can blame it entirely on the Accutane. I sorta feel like this pill isn't working. No dry lips, or dry skin. I don't even think my skin is all that sensitive yet. I wonder if this is because my dose is so low? 10 mg/twice a day. Do you have to experience these side effects in order for it to work? Oyi, I'm so confused. I just hope my skin clears up soon.

Give it time, I'm sure you'll see some improvement soon. Your lower dose probably won't have such extreme symptoms as others. Will your derm raise your dose or do you know you're on a strict 20mg/day thing?

Hey Deniz, welcome to the wonderful world of accutane. I've been on for 12 days, so I'm onlya few days ahead of you which means I don't have much insight. I'm also on a higher dose (40mg/day). I only weigh 110 lbs, so it surprises me that I'm on so much more. I've been scanning the literature and all of the scientific evidence points toward a cumulative dose of 100-120mg/kg body weight. That means for me I need a total of 5000-6000 mg which is why I'll be on 40mg for 5 months. Do you know if you're dose will be increase, or how long you'll be on? That could be why your dose is so low. Fewer side effects would definitely be awesome.
Good luck, I'll be hoping for clear skin for you.

Thanks for the response guys ;]

Melfice2k-Yeah I'm part Turkish, but unfortunatley I don't speak it. Sorry ;\

haylie-I think he said he'd increase it at some point. I'm just not sure when. Hopefully it'll be soon.

Stella Blue-I think he gave me such a low dose because of my weight (100lbs). But I think 40 mg would be just fine for me. Feeling any side effects from the pill yet? Hopefully we'll have awesome skin soon, without all the nasty effects grinwink.gif
