Hello all!!

I just popped my 8th accutane pill! I am on 20mg a day of a generic brand. I was very nervous to start accutane, but when my skin didn't fall off my face after that first pill, most of my fears were put to rest. I have moderate acne with hyperpigmentation and minor scarring. Accutane is a last resort for me, as it is I'm sure for most acne sufferers.

I was tentative to go on accutane for many reasons, but one of the main ones is that I suffer from depression. My depression is minor and I'm being monitored by my doctor. I am not too worried about the effects of accutane on my depression. I think I actually have an advantage to those who have never had depression before. I know the symptoms and I know when it is worse. Also, my family has a history of depression and they are aware of my depression as well. They are definitely watching out for me!

Also, I have a minor thyroid problem that I recently developed. I am taking synthroid for this problem. Synthroid cannot be taken within four hours of any vitamin supplement. Seeing that accutane is an overdose of vitamin A, this makes the timing of my medications a bit more complicated. I can handle it, but... the scary part is I didn't know this about my medications until I discovered it myself by researching. No doctor or pharmacist ever mentioned it to me. This angers me a little.....

So, I have been on accutane for a little over a week and my side effects this far are minimal. I have dry lips and a dry scalp... this is normal for me for this time of year. I am washing my face with cetaphil in the morning and Ponds gentle exfoliator when I take off my makeup at night. In the morning I use a light Olay moisturizer with SPF 15 and at night I moisturize with Ponds dry skin cream which is heavier.

Some other things about me, I am a freshman in college. I am insecure about my acne (of course) and.... I just want to have beautiful skin...... but I'm afraid this will never happen. The acne will go away, but the scars will not.

Any comments are much appreciated!!!
