A few months and two accounts later and here i am, back posting on the ol' faithful .org. Its like a friend that i only visit
when i'm feeling my worst, but i must admit it helps! Talk about a one sided relationship haha!

My mild acne has been at its all time worst since friday. I'm wondering if it has something to do with stress? I didn't think there was a link between acne and stress? See, i'm moving house and all of you that have moved house before will know about the money, the packing and the plain stress that it involves wacko.gif

My acne consists of little to medium sized red bumps that are really itchy. They're not hard or painful to the touch and they're usually gone within one to two days leaving a tiny dry red mark behind. I have about 3 or 4 of these bastards right now. They usually start out life as a small white dot in my skin which occasionally if detected at the right time can be scratched off which seems to basically kill it and prevent anything else from happening with it... Anyone else have anything like this?

I guess i just wanted to come here and have a moan, so here it is. Today really sucks. I hate my stupid skin.

Stay Strong!

Yes...some people said that acne & stress are related!

But, for me, I think the most important thing is to change ur DIET!
Eat Healthy!

Regarding the stress issue. I went through a divorce last summer and fall...talk about stressful times...lol. Guess what? My acne flared up badly. Now that things have settled down again so has my skin. So, there may be something to the stress theory, maybe not a direct connection but at least an indirect one as stress has all sorts of negative effects on your body and it's processes. I do believe it's one piece in a puzzle. Stress, diet, exercise, hormones, genetics...some things we can control, some we can't.

Maybe I could shed some light on the topic of stress....

I took a graduate level Mind/Body connection course last semester and it talks about the physiological response to stress. When the body is under any kind of stress whether it be physical or emotional the body responds the same way getting ready to "fight or flight" the fight or flight response is an innate reaction to an outside stimulus or something putting us in danger. When we are under stress, the fight or flight response elevates heart rate to bring adequate blood supply to the muscles, our muscles tense to prepare to fight or flight... and our hormones such as testosterone and cortisol are released into the blood stream and are circulating and acting as a defense mechanism (again preparing us to fight or flight). As we know excess testosterone can lead to acne breakouts. We can not control this reaction and we don't even feel it happening (but it does result in increased heart rate and blood pressure, this is fact).

That is the closest to a physiological reasoning as to why we break out when we are stressed out that I can think of. Hopefully this post isn't too confusing!

Haha, yes that was my username before. I'm not ''Back'' as such though. I got far too involved in rubbish
in the lounge before.

So yeah, MT is back, but not in full attack! haha.

Would you be able to post more of your history with acne, and what regime's you've tried? Just for those of us, like myself, who don't know you.

I stressed out hard on this last move, ended up with a ravaged face.

You mentioned itching, & small red bumps...Might be hives, I get those under stress too..Maybe give benadryl a shot next time this happens?

I hope you get relief.

i get hives from stress as well and also i get them from allergies..they look pimples but they are not!
take a dose of benadryl, if some of them go away then you know it's not all acne.

You might be getting hives from the medication, too. After about a month on Minocin, I got hives all over my head, and one on my face. They took about a week, a week and half to completely go away, and during that time, I would get mini outbreaks of hives on other parts of my body if I did anything not totally healthy (like I had too much wine with dinner, etc).

Do you use aloe vera for acne? It works on hives, too, and might help the itching... so either way, you're kind of covered smile.gif

Also- My acne has no connection to diet that I can find, but it has a MAJOR connection to sleep. Have you been sleeping as deeply/as often lately? With the move, maybe you've had to change your sleeping arrangements, and that's effecting your skin?

Awesome. Thanks for your help everyone. I'm going to buy some Benadryl to keep in reserve for when
the inevitable strikes again.

Which would you recommend out of the Benadryl® Skin Allergy Relief or the Benadryl® Allergy Relief?

Until then i think i'm going to get some tests done and have a word with my doctor to see if its maybe
an adverse drug interaction... Thing is, i'm on SO much medication, it'd be almost impossible to work out which
one it could possibly be... doubt.gif
