Hi Jordan,
I am a 38 y/o female who has battled acne on and off for most of my life. Last year (when I was 37) it got really bad and antibiotics didn't help at all. After several months of trying and discarding various antibiotics, my derm was on the verge of prescribing Accutane for me when she suggested I try spironolactone, (a blood pressure medication that is sometimes used to treat hormonal acne in older women). What a difference it has made! I no longer get the hard chin cysts I used to get, only a few small pimples now and again which I can deal with. It has also improved my overall skin tone, it is smoother and less rough looking. If your mother doesn't have blood pressure or kidney problems she might want to ask her derm about trying spironolactone, IMHO it works quite well for adult female acne.
You can search spironolactone in this forum, from what I've read it's also helped a lot of other women with adult acne.
Good luck and best wishes from bookyone

How do u know if you have hormonal acne ?
Drs. can do a blood test to detect abnormal hormone levels which can be the root of adult acne.
