Okay, posted this to the wrong forum originally, gonna try it here now:
So, I am thinking of going back on Ortho Tricyclen. It is the ONLY thing that has ever consistently worked in the 15 years I have been struggling with acne. I had to go off it a while ago b/c my insurance switched me to the generic, which was a nightmare and made my acne worse than ever (TriNessa--stay away). That turned me off to the pill, plus I have cervical issues, but that is another story. Anyway, I am picking up my OTC today, and I wondered if anyone had any experiences with this or other brands of pills to share? How long did it take before you saw results? Where were your breakouts?/are your breakouts? (mine are in the jaw/lower cheek region, which is the area that indicates hormonal imbalance and issues with the reproductive system/uterus/ovaries)

hi coveredup,
Last year i had some issues with ovarian cysts and my acne was getting worse. My acne is like yours in the chin area. I was put on tri-sprintec because the insurance doesn't cover brand name ortho tri-cyclen. This pill gave me headaches and my face only cleared up a little bit. After 3 months, the pharmacyst gave me trinessa because they ran out of tri-sprintec. Trinessa is just the worst pill i ever taken. After just one week of taking this crap, i had the worst break out in my life, so severe i went to the ER at night. They gave me a shot of cortisone and motrin and told me to call my doctor. My doctor said that i was not possible for the trinessa to do that. He said it was an allergic reaction to something i ate. I got so mad at him. I was so frustrated and only my husband believed me that it was the pill making me so sick. So i went to the pharmacy and paid $59.00 for the brand ortho tri-cyclen. The same day i started ortho i felt 100% better. It has been a month and a week now and i haven't had any cysts or pimples and all the brown spots are starting to disappear. Also my menstrual cramps are non-existent. I highly recommend this pill if you are like me suffering from acne and severe cramps.

So, after arguing with the pharmacist this morning (they tried to give me TriNESSA again!), I have three packs of Ortho Tri, and will start next week. I think I am finally reading all the signs correctly about where my acne comes from and how to get rid of it. It is so totally hormonal, and I am in a very hormonally imbalanced period. Late 20s feels like a second PUBERTY! Is anyone else with me on this? Acne, mood swings, insecurity....I can't wait for my thirties, tell me I will calm down?
My current regimen (just cause I have never written it down before):
EXTERNAL:
Morning:
*wash in the shower with either Kiehls oatmeal cleansing cream, or dr. hauschka cleansing milk (depends on which one i can afford)
*pat dry
* dr. hauschka all natural toner
*moisturize with Dr. hauschka day oil OR Rose Day cream (depending on how much moisture i need)
*bare minerals make up with kabuki (spf 15 foundation, warmth, mineral veil)
Night:
*wash with same as above
*pat dry
*tone
*apply On the Spot treatment (neutrogena)
*change pillowcase
INTERNAL:
2 tbs ACV 2-3X/day
supplements: flax oil, vit A, Vit C, Vit E, Primrose Oil, zinc
8 glasses water/day
aloe vera juice (8oz/day)
MEDS: soon to start Ortho Tricyclen

Just make sure you take it every day. Skipping days, sometimes even just one, fucks up ortho bad. That was my experience anyway.
I just got put on Ortho Tri Cyclin Lo because the hormones in the regular one were too much for me. I was having two week periods every month. It suuuucked.

I'm on the ortho tri cylcen lo but I'm hopefully going to switch this next week. i've been having breakouts pretty much all the time and I think my acne might be hormonal. I was on the regular ortho tricylen years ago and it seemed to work better but it's been so long I can't recall if I had any skin issues then. Good luck to all of you!

Just came off ortho after almost 2 yrs of it. It worked well for my skin, kept me fairly clear but not wonderfully clear. Still broke out occasionally around my jawline, back, and forehead. Kept the oil down to a minimum but i still had to use blotting sheets. Worked wonderful as a bcp, no problems! My problem with it is weight gain from an increased appetite and no sex drive. It completely killed my sex drive. My best friend was also on this and had the same effects of increased appetite and no sex drive. And it didn't clear her skin. Ugghh It's effects vary from person to person. Good luck
