Hey,
My name is Jeff, and I am just starting accutane. I read over the pleathora of other logs before I started this, so I figured I would start one as well. I'm 16/M, and I have had acne for about 3 years. I am taking 40mg once a day, and I don't know about other dosage increases yet. Other prescription medicines I have taken but to no avail:
  1. Tazorac
  2. Zoderm
  3. Another form of tazorac
  4. Differin
  5. Doxycyclene and 2 other antibiotics*
  6. And many more...
*About 2 weeks into the doxycyclene, I had esophagus problems...the capsule opened while swallowing, and in the same spot for days after. It ruptured the lining of my esophagus, which was enough to convince me to stop that. Of course, my collection and excessive intake of hot sauce (including the world's hottest) doesn't help matters either.

So without further adue, here is the journal!

Days 1-3:
Took the medicine, no side effects whatsoever...

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if the dryness will be as bad as doxycyclene? That was pretty bad, and I don't really know what I'm in for.

Day 4:
Skin was a little dry in the morning, cetaphil fixed that right up. Also, I had a mild headache for a bit and my palms were for some reason sweaty, but other than that no side effects. That could be due to the fact that I have a cold though...
HOWEVER, my skin is looking a little less inflamed already. surprised.gif

Good luck with your treatment! My son is 15 and started last month. He was on most of the stuff you were on for topicals and antibiotics. Nothing worked. So.... here we are and so far the 40 mg is working good with few side effects. I wonder if your doctor will increase your dose? I am asking my son's doctor to hold at 40 mg and just take it for a longer period of time. I hope you will notice, as we did, that the pimple development slows way down fairly quickly so you are battling so much at one time.

good luck!

Thanks guys...and tell your son I said good luck surprised.gif

Day 5:
Only side effects today are very mild dryness, and my lips are a tad bit dry. Not bad by any means, but I fear what will come. confused.gif

In other news, my brother may be deployed to Iraq again. He already had 3 tours (21 months) in the USMC and is currently in inactive reserves, but given Bush's new 'strategy,' things aren't looking good. Frequent visits to the VA, calls to my house from various sargeants wanting to talk to him, and a letter requesting his whereabouts, plans, etc. I'm hoping he won't go back, but anything could happen.

You are eating fatty foods with you pill, right? It'll help your body absorb that magic little pill.
Everyone is different in seeing side effects, I think my most drastic skin changing day was day five.

Uhhh....not really. I didn't know I was supposed to eusa_shifty.gif
All I really eat with it is strawberries, a granola bar, and water. Time to break out the Coco Puffs!

Lips and face weren't dry when I woke up, but when I came home from school they were pretty dry. Not nearly as bad as Tazorac and doxycyclene though.

2 weeks down, 24 to go confused.gif

I've read a lot of logs, and so far you seem to be the luckiest person yet as far as side effects. good luck!

Thanks, I hope it stays that way!

Day 15:
My lips are getting a little chapped, but I don't think it's anything more than it being below freezing out...who knows, it could be the accutane though. Face still isn't dry though...
