Hi,

Has anyone got any good tips of how to get rid of acne which I think is hormonal as it is on my jaw line and chin and red?

I am on a birth control pill for which i have been taking for dead on three months but I still have spots, I am also taking oil of evening primrose oil vitamin tabs.

I just dont know what to do anymore!!!

I think i am doomed with this for ever and i am only 22!

Hi Mitsey

I have the same hormonal acne as you do. In the past birth control pills have always taken at LEAST 3 months to work on me. I reckon you will see some results in the next month or so. When they did kick in they worked really well for me. So hang in there, id say youll see some results pretty soon.

Which BCP are you taking? Sometime it takes quite a while for it to work, and some BCP brands can actually make it worse.

like said, sometimes it takes a long time (3-8 months) for a Bc to work for acne.

also, there's the people who take aleve for their hormonal/pms acne and it seems to be working wonders!

I hear ya! I'm trying to figure this out too. From what I've read in here, you're doing the right things.

I just started Evening Primrose Oil too. I can't tell exactly if it's working.

I also think that diet and exercise helps for me.

In terms of cleansing regimen, I am unsure if something works better than something else. I have recently received some samples of Avene products which apparently work towards addressing the hormonal issues and the production of sebum as opposed to all of the products that strictly address bacteria and clogged pores. I'm not sure if they work better, but maybe you want to look into them too....

Not a lot of answers from me...yet. I'm in the same boat as you. (Except I'm not a fan of birth control pills.)

Good luck to us!

Hi,

I live in the UK and it is called Dianette - it is supposed to be a really really good bc pill for the skin. I dont think they have it in the USA.

they just recently completed a study in australia about diet and acne. they took a bunch of teenage boys and made them cut out all refined foods, carbs etc. all the hi GI stuff. on the low gi diet there was a significant decrease in sebum production and acne. as we know sebum production is governed by androgens (hormones) then you could quite possibly benefit from undertaking a low GI diet.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. It is funny that you have mentioned Avene products as the other day I brought some of their foundation, but I havent used it as I was wondering if it would make it worse! Oh dear .. whats a gal to do hey! But I may be brave and try their skin care range as at the moment I am only using water - what ever else i use i just seem to go red!

Good luck - I am sure we will be fine!

Let me know how you go on.

So, I've been faithfully using the EPO and my Avene cleanser and I am still finding this whole thing to be a mystery. Most months it happens and sometimes it doesn't, like right now. And what have I done differently? I did just get back from a warmer climate. I bought a new toner (NeoStrata) and I kept forgetting to take my supplements (Evening Primrose Oil and others suggested by This Blog)! It doesn't add up!

How are you making out with managing yours?

I recommend reading my other post about how i cured myself. Nothing was working for me and I had cystic acne for the first time in my entire life...Good luck I feel your pain.

I had this at the end of last year. I was getting these big sore pimples along my jawline. What I did was try the 'acne cure' book and after about 5 weeks my skin started majorly clearing up and I have not had any pimples on my jawline (and hardly any anywhere else) for a few months now. This is what I did:

Morning:

Cleanse with 12% Glycolic cleanser (I leave it on for about 10 mins)
oil free sunblock

Evening

2% salicyclic acid wash
Run ice cube all over face (or affected areas)
apply BP

Apply icepacks for 10 mins. Then oil-free moisteriser.

Do this every day. The first 4 weeks, I was still getting new pimples and then I changed glycolic acid products (I was originally using 10% pads) and thats when things improved.

Now that I am clear (apart from the odd small pimple now and again), I still keep to pretty much the same routine, I just miss out the ice packs (but still do the ice cube over face, this is quite nice and I've just kept up the habit - it apparently helps the products to penetrate better).

I've heard mixed reports about 'the acne cure' but it worked for me eventually.

I am taking a BCP called Diane 35. if you search it online it will tell you that it is designed to help clear skin.

I am finally seeing results now after like 7 months.. that and proactiv. But it could work faster for other people.

if anyone is interested in the pill for their skin they should check it out.
