I managed to go to the derm today, and he told me that I cannot simply fight my acne from the outside and I need to take medication. In the past I have tried doxocycline and erythromycin, and non of them worked. he had given me co-trimoxazole (also known as bactrim or septra). I have read really positive things on the ratings section about this drug about how it really clears acne fast. However, there are a lot of really really bad side effects associated with this drug. These include severe liver damage and allergic reactions to sulfur. Unfortunatly when I was a baby, I had a very bad reaction to a sulfur based medicine. 19 years later I am not sure if I will still have the allergy. This drug could be dangerous for me, but because I cannot go on accutane, It is my only hope. To be honest I am a little scared of what it could do to me. I've read comments about how people have had to have liver transplants and things from this drug. And having to go to the ER.

Anyway...the main question here is, can I still do the CSR while on drugs?

First of alll, have you talked to your doctor about your past experience with sulphur based drugs? Has he answered all your questions and does he still say you should be okay taking this drug? If yes, then I see no reason not to take it. If not, then maybe you need to call your doctor and discuss your concerns. After all, that's what he is there for

Second, anything that you take internally will not interfere with your topical application of benzoyl peroxide. In my case, I took Minocycline for about 6 weeks while on the CSR and the antibiotic helped me tremendously. I stopped taking it because I had an allergic reaction to it. Nothing serious, just some red itchy patches on my arms and chest. Anyway, I think you should be fine.
