All acne is in essence hormonal whether you are male/female. The problem is when you attempt to curb male acne with anti-androgens, males tend to feel the side effects more so than women, who are less dependent on androgens. The best thing I have used to curb my minor flare-ups (and I have used everything) is Celebrex (the cox-2 inhibitor). It worked within 48 hours. Of course, do some research and present it to your prescribing doctor. Also, Spironolactone at low doses (25-50mgs daily) may work fine with few sides.

If I were a guy I would take GLA - found in Borage oil. Look at the facemaster's website. www.facemaster.blogspot.com. It is worth a try and I have stumbled upon some research that supports the GLA connection for hormone balancing. Since I'm not a guy, I take Spironolactone, with no side effects except clear skin.
