If its the red light and the blue light that do the god. Then why not take a normal lamp and paint it halv blue and half red. It should have the same effect?
No, not nearly bright enough; that would remove all the colours except the one you want, which would reduce the power of the lamp by maybe 50x or something; just not enough power left to work.
I just purchasd the Tanda (launched this month only in Canada -- 295$) It provides the required output of Blue Light (414nm) to destroy acne-creating bacteria and Red Light (660nm) to promote healing and collagen synthesis. I'm less concerned about acne (which was on my back): which was sporadic and has subsided, and more concerned about the residual and slow-healing scars it left behind. So I'll mainly be using the red light to encourage healing. I havn't heard of this device being used on the body but don't see why it shouldn't be effective there too. I've hitherto spent close to 1000$ on various creams and potions to treat ance and scarring with no success and have pretty much given up on topicals so spending 300$ on a device that will not run out, expire and has a fair chance of effectiveness and triple uses (acne fighting, healing and regenerating) makes sense to me. I have no acne on my face but may use the red light there for rejuvenation and treat some friends who have acne with the blue light.
So far, this looks to be the best LED device available to the consumer, comfortable to hold and covering a conveniently shaped (soft triangle) surface area much larger that the the spot treatment light device that was launched a few years ago but not as cumbersome as stationary lights. If anyone else is using this or has unearthed other uses please post. I'll update in a few weeks as I don't anticipate immediate results.

Do you know how strong this is?
I have very little acne now, but I do have red marks that I am trying to fade and would like to head off any breakouts. DO you think it would be worth picking it up again and using it since I already have it?

just thought i'd let everyone know that i got the three-headed red+blue light from acnelamp the other day and i used it the first day for 10 minutes in hte morning, 2 minutes at night. then i put retin-a micro that i usually use that same night.
the next day i did 7 minutes in the morning and nothing at night and put retin-a micro again at night.
the next day my face was quite red/irritated and about 6 of my black heads/open comedones were turning in to pustules with quite a bit of redness around them.
so i stopped using the light for now. my theory is that because i used the retin-a right afterwards and or the same day, the retin-a penetrated my pores more deeply and i started getting the retin-a "purge" affect again.
has anyone else had a similar experience???
i am now afraid to use the lights again and am V. disappointed.
Also i am pissed because i have to take levothyroxine for hypothryoid and i am sure it is making my skin worse. GROSS.
anyone???

I also just purchased tanda and Im on day 3. Too soon to tell but I do see this working for me, along with my other topicals. The blue light kills bacteria in the skin which can heal existing acne, and prevent it from reoccurring. In theory, BP does the same, so I say doing both will have great effects. The red light is used to stimulate collagen production which is known to make the skin more supple. Its a healing light as well, so together this can reduce lines and in theory, acne scars. (acne scars are broken skin cells/dead cells, and so are wrinkles.) Rapid collagen production means these lines or pits will also shrink in size, and be less visible.
Im excited. And the fact that its 295 dollars, and at the derm i paid 500 for 8 treatments that do the exact same thing(without the red light even) makes it all the better.
I will also post my progress with the light.

But I had my last session today (now I have one again in about a month). Are the more people who stopped with blue light after they were clear(or almost clear)?
And did the acne came back when you stopped bue light?
What can I do, to stay clear like I am now?
I used really a lot, read a lot over here, and no I am almost clear, I want to stay clear!

I've just come across this great site for the first time today, and thought I'd share my blue/red light experience.
I've been battling acne since my late teens (am 31 now), have tried everything under the sun including 4 courses of Accutane over the years. A few months ago my acne started to worsen again.
I had a course of Omnilux red and blue light treatments which have cleared my skin up beautifully.
The course of 9 alternate red & blue sessions cost $360 New Zealand dollars or you could pay $45 each time. Each took 20 minutes.
The most important thing I wanted to tell you which I didn't see mentioned on this board is that
YOU MUST LEAVE A LEAST 48 HOURS BETWEEN USING RED LIGHT & USING BLUE LIGHT.
I had 1 blue & 1 red per week (each Wed & Sat) for 4 weeks & 1 extra blue one in the 5th week.
My skin didn't show any improvement at all until about 7 or 8 weeks after I started (apparently this is normal).
They recommend one every month for the next 3 months.
I was told that if the red & blue treatments are less than 48 hours apart the efficiency of the light becomes very small.
Hope this helps you all with your home lamps - I'd love to have one but haven't found a place who'll ship to NZ.

I was wondering, how useful is it reducing the redness of previous acne scars?
Also I have a few problem areas by the sides of my neck and I was wondering if the above product would be suitable for that?

I don't know if you have gotten any answers about your question yet but I asked my esthetician a million questions about the light therapy ( I just started) and recall her saying that one color was good for that I'm thinking it was the green or yellow.
