I just got back from the dermatologist. He prescribed me with solodyn. Supposedly it's the first antiboitic to be approved by the FDA specifically for ance treatment. I dont' get excited about antibiotics but at least it's better than minocycline( which I've used ). Has anyone in here had any experience with it?

I've been on Solodyn for about 4 months. I'm 21 and have been trying various acne treatments for about six years. Nothing really worked except for this. It took time but it's definitely worth the wait and price. I also use a prescription face wash called Brevoxyl-8 and Tazorac Face Cream.

Did your skin started to feel different after a month?
I was on Minocin (100 mg) for 6 months. But my skin started to feel much softer and smoother after about a month. After 6 months it was completely cleared! I had perfect skin for about 2 years after but then my acne came back.

I went to a derm last week and she prescribed Solodyn. Do you recommend it? And if so what percentage are you taking that works?

If you have tried minocin then you have tried solodyn; they have the same active ingredient (namely "minocycline hydrochloride").

You may need a new derm.

Have you tried hormonal approaches to treating your acne like birth control pills or spironolactone?

Yes I was on birth control for many years and it worked great!
However I developed gallstones and I can no longer be on birth control.

I've been taking Aldactone 100 mg for 10 weeks now and I'm still breaking out.
My acne has gotten better, but I wanna be 100% clear (same as when I was taking birth control).

Since I can not take birth control, and I've tried Aldactone - my only option is to go back on antibiotic.

Or Accutane.

But perhaps one more shot at antibiotics is worth it [if only for legal reasons for your derm's sake] before trying Accutane, especially if you are young.

Good luck.
