At first I did not really notice a difference, but 1 month later I am pretty amazed.

I can honestly say my scars improved by 20-25%. I think it's probably A LOT better than that, but I'm afraid to jinx it. I'll stay conservative at 20%.

I'm talking about the indented scars. Of course my scars are mild, and supplements probably work best for mild scarring. Here is what I do:

8g Vitamin C (time released tablets, 2g/setting)
6g MSM (2g at night and morning, 1g at lunch and dinner)
800 IU Vitamin E (I also applied vitamin E topically, just punched a hole through the softgel and applied it before bed time and let it sit)

That is it. I take vitamin E with large meals (mainly those with a lot of fat). The vitamin C tablets are released throughout the day, and it takes 12 hours for the tablets to dissolve.

Of course I do plan to later reduce the doses to:

2g Vitamin C/day
1g MSM/day
100 IU Vitamin E/day

But that won't happen any time soon. I use the GNC brand of MSM, Nature Made's Vitamin E, and Swanson's Time Released Vitamin C.

msm ROCKS!

I started taking it (in powder form) and I really think it had a positive affect on my skin (and hair, BTW). I ran out of the powder, switched to GNC tablets (convenience) and I really don't think I'm getting the same quality. I would recommend a good quality powder, although it tastes pretty cruddy, you really have to gear up to swallow the stuff eusa_sick.gif .

I wonder, what's the best brand for these pills/MSM powder? Or does it not matter?

Methyanl-Sulfynl-Methane...forgot how it's spelled. It's a bioavailable form of sulfur. We usually get some in our diets, but in small amounts, usually no more than say 100mg. Studies show that no adverse effects were found on high doses (6g/day), but no long term study was done. Still, I don't advocate such high doses over long periods on no available studies of long term effects.

Usually I find that GNC is the most respected brand. If it doesn't work with GNC, it usually doesn't work with any other.

gnc is the worst brand you can buy. Try NOW or New Chapter

For me, GNC really works. The only thing is the price, it is usually twice as expensive as brands from online stores like VitaCost or Swanson. But if it works, it's worth it.

Glad to hear the MSM has been helping you. My scars have been appearing a little more shallow too lately. Some people say sun makes your scars go deeper and red marks get redder, but in my experience the opposite seems to be happening. Anyways I don't supplement with Vit. C but get a good amount in my diet as well as plenty of MSM a day and definitely can say it's helped.

Have you noticed any other benefits from MSM? I noticed I don't get muscle soreness anymore up to the point where I keep taking it consistently smile.gif Also my hair is usually softer, I believe some schools of medicine (Traditional Chinese) attribute that to clean blood, not positive though.

That's aweosme that your scarring is going away! I'm trying to get rid of the scars I have, too.

MSM, or methylsulfonylmethane, is a naturally occuring sulfur compound which is found in both plant and animal tissues. It can help detoxify the body on the cellular leve. It helps to nourish the hair, skin, and nails; it also relieves pain and inflammation as well as allergy problems and gastrointestinal health. It aids in immune function and can benefit people with heartburn, arthritis, lung problems, muscle pain, and migraines. A common dosage is 2,000 mg (2 g) per day taken in divided doses with meals. MSM is enhanced by vitamin C.

I work at a natural foods and supplement store (not GNC), and we sell a LOT of MSM by NOW Foods. It is a great value priced brand if you are looking for something to fit a budget and still work well. Powder is most easily absorbed. If you are taking a pill form, it should be a capsule which contains powder instead of a tablet which is harder to break down.

I'm going to buy some MSM after I get off of work today. I can't wait to see if it helps!

I can't say that I have, but when I jogged 14 miles for 2 days, my right knee was really sore. After a week my knee was normal. Not sure if it would have went away on its own, but as far as scarring goes MSM + C + E seems to help quite a bit. 1 month in and I can at least attribute a 15% reduction and at most a 25% reduction of scars (indented and discolored).

We'll see if this keeps up...this will be somewhat of a log if anyone is interested in scar supplementation.

As for MSM boosting immune function, I think that might be far-fetched. I know MSM can cross the blood-brain barrier though, but it doesn't have any negative effects at single gram size doses.
