Hey everyone! I might go on accutane towards the end of august and I was wondering if anyone has been on accutane that had dry skin before they went on? I have dry skin and I am afraid that the accutane will make it worse possibly for life? I really don't want to have to mosturize everyday for the rest of my life...anyone help me with this? It seems like everyone that has been on accutane had oily skin before they went on...Any advice would be greatly appreciated. cool.gif

Hi I had dry skin before I started accutane, I always had to moisturize, because I was always on so much medicine and it dried out my face. I dont find the accutane drying out my face that much more, you just always put your moisturiser on.

I can tell you that going on accutane was the best decision I made. I was so scared but now I am almost done with my first month and I dont regret it at all. I have been one of the lucky ones that did not have a bad initial IB and my side effects have been mild. I think the derm will be upping my dosage so I am a little nervous about that.

Good luck with whatever you decide on and keep me posted. razz.gif

I've had dry skin and eczema my whole life, and then acne. (Isn't it grand?) My facial skin has always been a combination- flaky dryness in some spots and zits in others.

I don't know what the long term effects will be, but I'm really excited about what the Accutane will do for me. There's no cure for dry skin but this is as close as you can get to a cure for acne! That's the way I look at it. Take the chance, what have you got to lose?

I had dry skin as well, however this was while i was taking topical meds to control my acne. It defintaely makes your skin very dry, however im only on my 20th day and could not tell you the long term side effects.

How bad is your acne?

I would say that it is moderate. I have breakouts on my cheeks and chin and along my jawline, but none on my forehead or around my hairline.

not too sure, but i was on 80mg of tane for 6 months and that dried me out so bad i would have to moisturize every 3 hours it was so bad. but now that i have been finished for a week, it is returning to normal. 80mg dries you out sooo badly, so i mean i went from super dry back to somewhat normal in 1 week. so do you think your skin is dry because of other topical or oral meds youve been on ? or just normally ? either way, moisturizing on accutane is a must o there is no way around that. but im pretty sure itll go back to the way it is now when you finish, from personal experience.

Good point, everyone says that after they stop taking Accutane their level of dryness goes back to normal. So it looks like long-term it wouldn't cause you to be a dryer than you were before.
