movie stars and rich famous people are the rolemodels for today's society. and for those of us without perfect qualities, they make us feel bad. by pointing out their flaws, it makes us feel better about ourselves
Please. The only "flaws" the point out about themselves is how they might indulge in chocolate and smoke. They would never say they have skin problems or have had plastic surgery. They are more likely to admit to drug abuse than to plastic surgery.
As a democrat, I'm kind of ashamed most of hollywood is too. I don't like celebrities much, but the fact that they're on my side politically makes me un-nerving. They make us democrats look bad.

Could you imagine if someone came up to you who you had never seen before and knew all about you and your life? That would be creepy ...
yup, I don't have to imagine it because its happened to me.

people who read celebrity magazines are fucked up. They want to be rich and famous so badly that they infatuate themselves with MOVIE STARS' (??) lives to try and escape from reality. Could you imagine if someone came up to you who you had never seen before and knew all about you and your life? That would be creepy ...
Yes, but many times, what we read or hear is not all accurate anyway. Though I may not be as regular as some, I personally enjoy looking at magazines on occasion (the one of choice is usually US Weekly), because I enjoy the pictures and reading certain articles (especially when it involves a celebrity whose work I enjoy or whom I may find intriguing or interesting in some way), but I always know there is much more to their lives than what we read and I do not automatically believe everything to be true. There are also other magazines I enjoy that do not revolve around famous people, but rather, health or other subjects.
When I do look at a celebrity magazine, I don't feel it is to escape from reality in my case, but simply for enjoyment. I think it's important to put things into perspective, though, and remember they are human too and rarely have a say over what's printed about them, even false stories. That's the part I find most unfortunate.

This is a really great topic, and I like people's responses so far. I think it would be even more helpful in emo, so I'll go ahead and move it with a link there. Hopefully it will be in the best forum there; if not then let me know and I can always move it back.
thanx,
Jess

J.lo has flawless skin...and that mark on her face is a chicken pock not acne. I'd kill for skin like hers (when she was younger).
Agreed. I admire J.Lo for her talent (some songs) and beauty.
It makes celebs more human. But with the celebs who do have acne (or little of)/obvious flaws, it shows how they were determined to pursue dreams than stay negative with their looks.

They don't really need much special effects, make-up these actors are covered in is enough to cover all the pimples. When you see their acne in their candid pics, it's because they have not make-up on
The list goes on...
Yes you forgot DiCaprio, althought covered in make up you can still see his pimples in Titanic and The Beach ...
And also Elijah Wood and Kirsten Dunst and Claire Danes
