How do you know if a food is having a bad effect on your acne? Will it just cause a breakout a few days later, or will it worsen active spots too or what?

The absolute best, and hardest, way to know if a food is having a bad effect is to go on the sample diet for 2 weeks, where you only eat food that CANNOT cause acne. Most people will be clear in 2 weeks, except maybe a few stubborn zits. You then reintroduce foods to see if they work for you. www.freeacnebook.com ..
The other way to achieve this is to rotate foods in your diet.. In my opinion the question isn't whether one food makes you break out, because I think ALL food that is cooked, processed, frozen or that is unnatural will break you out, the question is how bad. Different foods will have different effects. I I would say a pimple forms in 1-4 days after you have eaten something. I usually see the effect about 24 hours later. For instance, I am on wais diet, very strictly, I was feeling sick from eating way too much watermelon (acidic), then salad w/ olive oil, then drinking my OJ and raw egg yolk. So I need to get some burping done so I hadda drink some soda, all I could find was sprite and 22 hours later, got a good size zit between the eyes, luckily its fading very fast. Diet will worsen spots as well and make them take longer to heal.. I notice my spots, and my redmarks heal very fast on this diet..
Wai says noone should stay on this diet for a long period of time. You should always incorporate new foods into your diet. . unfortunately for me most other foods don't work... I think the oats soaked overnight is working!!!!
Good Luck

It could do both! If you continue eating the food that initiated the inflammatory response it can create new acne as well as prolong the healing time for existing acne (associated with consuming that food). Keeping a Food Journal may be your best bet if you want to narrow down the culprit.
