Hi, my name is Shane, I'm new here. smile.gif I started accutane about 3 months ago, and it has done a lot to help my self esteem. My acne problem is not really based around my face, though I think that I would prefer it. My acne is located all along my back, on certain parts of my chest, and on the sides of my neck. It's often painful, and I get many questions from others like "Is that a hickey" or "What happened to your neck?!!!11". It makes going swimming in group enviroments impossible, because I don't want people too see me with my shirt off.

Anyways, the initial breakout was pretty painful, instead of regular pimples I formed small cysts in the problem areas. However, after the second month was over, the breakout seemed to end, and the pimples were forming at a much slower rate. At the end of the third month, I had few painful pimples save for the ones on my chest and lower back (Those go last), and only a couple dozen red marks/scars to show that they ever existed. My face totally cleared up. smile.gif However, at my last appointment, disaster struck. I lost my iPledge card. After a few days of searching, we tried to give them the ID number that the dermatologist gave me, but that didn't ring up. When I found my card, it was too late, and the pharmacy refused to fill my prescription.

After a month of waiting for my next appointment with no medicine, my skin and lips are no longer dry, and the painful acne is all back, save for my face. I am worried that even when I do start taking the medicine again, I'll have to go through the whole process all over again... Has anyone had this kind of experience, and is the medicine quick to work when you get back on it?

Hellow,

First off I am so sorry for your experience. I have the same exact problem with my back!! I know how bad it sucks. And funny enough I lost my card this month also. But I got the id number from the derm and was able to get my prescription filled. Your derm should have wrote you another prescription right then and there this was you wouldnt had to wait. As far as are you going to have to go through the intial breakout again my guess would be yes. But my suggestion is start off at a lower dosage like 10 mg or 20mg, this way it wont be that bad. how long were you on it before you stopped and how many mg?
