So..
Reading everyone's logs has been great while deciding whether or not to take the plunge. Thanks! I'm a 25/f and I've had anywhere from mild-severe acne since I was 10. Without heavy use of antibiotics and lots of topicals, my skin is terrible. I've been on every antibiotic under the sun, as well as fifty million topicals. My regimen before acctuane consisted of 10%BP, Clindamycin Lotion, Retin- A and Duac, along with 200 mg of Doxy morning and night. My skin has been under control for about a year and a half- I've even had several months of completely clear skin (minus blackheads) on this regimen. Unfortunately, three months ago, I started getting 3-4 cysts a week on my chin. My face also started breaking out in lots of teeny tiny whiteheads everywhere. Since I've already been on Mino, Septra, Bactrim, etc... my derm suggested Accutane and poof.. here i am. Took my first pill this AM, 40 mg. I'm definitely very nervous about the side effects and the IB. My skin is fairly clear at the moment, but I know that there is years of junk in my pores and thinking about all of it coming out is bittersweet. I know that I may not be completely clear forever after taking Accutane, but I hope it gives me a new starting point and skin that is easier to control. I am so sick of topicals and pills -- I can't imagine having to possibly be on antibiotics for the rest of my life (My dad has 20 years under his belt and at 49, gets awful cysts if he doesn't take them), so I hope Accutane at least gives me the chance to get rid of what's there and start over.

Can anyone recommend the cheapest pharmacy for Accutane? I've called around a bit and it seems Walmart has the lowest price so far. I have insurance, but it only covers 50% of the prescription because tane is considered a higher end drug.
Thanks!

I typically ice my cysts, which greatly reduces the redness, pain, and inflammation for me. Since your skin is so sensitive on accutane, is it okay for me to continue doing so?

I am starting accutane in two weeks. My derm told me that I should continue to use my antibiotics normally until the day I start. I've been on antibiotics (mino and doxy) for the last three and a half years straight, along with four different topicals. I'm curious if not weening off my antibiotics prior to accutane will cause a much worse IB since i've been on them so long or if it will actually make my IB better, because my skin has been under control for several years.
Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks!

Hey everyone,
I just had my first blood test yesterday. My derm told me I had to come back in two weeks for another test (to confirm two negative pregnancy tests prior to getting Accutane). He said he couldn't recall if I would have to wait a full month from yesterday (first blood test) to get the script or if i could start it the day after getting the second negative test. Any ideas? Do women HAVE to wait a full month w/ two negatives before getting the script or will I be able to start in two weeks. Thanks for any help! |
