TO PREVENT stretch marks during pregnancy, I used to take warm baths with baby oil and I used tons of the palmer stretch mark lotion for pregnancy. I barely got any but I was beginning to get a few right before I delivered. I think the key is keeping skin as moisturized as possible but steer clear of the "skin firming " types of lotions during pregnancy since you want your skin to be able to expand.
TO FADE stretch marks, I suppose the verdict is still out but it seems I read retin-a as well as peels such as glycolic may work since these marks are into the skin like scars.

I always rubbed my entire abdomen area with some lotion after my shower each day when I was pregnant.
I've had two kids and have no stretch marks at all. I didn't use anything special, just one of those Suave lotions from Walmart. I don't know of anything that will get rid of them once they're already there though.

My question is more this--how exactly does one get stretch marks in the first places?
I'm a guy, 20 and a half years old, and have them on the uppermost part of my leg near my waist. I got them when I was 13 for no apparent reason. They faded over the course of a year. It's interesting to note that I get leg pain there sometimes as well. As for the redness, give it some time and it will turn sort of white. It's like a scar you'd get after falling off your bike but not raised and not as noticeable. |

There is no cream to change a stretch mark because it's a tear in the skin below the surface that results in scar tissue.
I have had some success with needling (basically damaging the skin to encourage it to heal and breaking up the scar tissue using sterile micro lances). I found that making a lot of stabs with needle, but very superficial (not deep at all) works best. It will bleed a little and take 2 weeks to heal, looking bad for around the first 5 days in my case. Like a tattoo it feels like sunburn the first few days. It doesn't hurt actually doing it. I wouldn't want to recommend anyone does that, but if you do try, use sterile needles, change regularly in the procedure, use alcohol swap before you start and antiseptic cream regularly after. I suggest trying on just one mark first and waiting a few weeks before assessing progress. |

i posted this on the fraxel thread. but there has been much success with stretch marks using the fraxel laser. there was as a 2007 clinical study showing 50-75 percent improvement. and yes it has pictures.
google "stretch marks" and "fraxel" you will get a few doctors websites with pictures showing dramatic improvement on stretch marks. also google "striae" and fraxel. striae is the medical term. |
