I'm very discouraged at the moment. I'm almost done with month 5 of being on amnesteen and my face still isn't clear. It's better, but not what I expected. Its red, scarred, and I still have little pimples everywhere. I'm sick of the dry lips and nose. Should I continue my treatment and change my face routine or just give up and try other options?

I'm so frusterated at the moment. I have 2 huge cysts on my cheek that just will not go away!!! I'm about 2 1/2 weeks into my accutane course. I had one cyst before I started accutane and got cortizone shots in it. I've done this 2 times and it goes down for a few days then comes back up. I also recently got another one that does the same thing. They are both in the exact same spot on my 2 cheeks which i thought was odd. Anywasy does anybody have any suggestions on what I can do? As you probably know can't use harsh topicals because of the 'tane. And these cysts have no head or anything on them, they are just huge and soft to the touch. Thanks for the input!
Oh and also I tried Wynne's method of icing them and putting polysporin and a band aid on them but it didn't help. I'm tempted to poke a small hole in them with a sterilized needle so that the medicine can get in there and get rid of the infection. Does this seem like a good idea or will i do more harm than good?

I've been on amnesteem for only 5 days but my skin is feeling oiler than usual eusa_think.gif has anyone else experienced this? I don't have any new breakouts it just feels very oily. I know it's supposed to dry out your skin and I haven't been using it that long but I'm wondering if maybe doing a 30 min mask might help? I just don't want this extra oil to clog my pores and my skin doesn't feel senstive or irritated at all. I know that any strong chemicals shouldn't be used but I have a proactiv mask with sulfur and I'm thinking of using that. Or maybe a tea tree oil clay mask? Any advice would be appreciated smile.gif

Hi all!! I finally got my perscription for amnesteem today and wanted to keep a log of my progress. Just a little about myself I'm a 20 year old female. I've been dealing with skin issues since I was about 12. I've tried dozens of OTC and perscription medications including proactiv, tea tree oil, benzaclin, differin gel, aczone etc. Nothing has ever worked for me for longer than a year. I used to have just minor breakouts, (although at the time I didn't see them as minor) but recently I developed the worst case of acne in my life. I was told by my derm the only thing that would help is accutane. I was scared to death to start taking it at first after hearing about some of the scary side effects. After reading some of the success stories on this website and speaking with my regular doctor about it I decided that this seems like a good solution for me.
So today is day 1 of my course. I'm on 20/mg a day for now. I'm excited to finally start after waiting for what seemed like forever due to ipledge. This has got to be one of the most difficult perscriptions to get! Seriously, you walk in the derm and hear how bad your skin is....but there is a fix for it. Then you find out you have to wait a month to get it and when you have acne that seems like an eternity! Anyways I would love feedback from people who are one it or have finished their course about their experience. I'm expecting the worst but hoping for the best at this point. Any advice on products or things to due to make this as painless as possible would be great! I'll be trying to do a weekly update and post pics soon.

Before my treatment i stocked up on supplies I thought would help. Here's my routine as of now:
Morning and Night:
Wash with purpose gentle cleansing gel
Apply aloe vera gel (from the plant)
Moisturize with Cerave

Morning:
For face makeup I'm using everyday minerals mint concealer and Revlon Colorstay liquid foundation set with neutrogena mineral sheers powder.

At night:
Also use a little jojoba oil on a cotton ball to take off excess makeup that my cleanser left behind.

I also stocked up on burt's bee's chapstick, aquaphor, and some head and shoulders shampoo.

Supplements
yaz birth control
Flax oil (2 capsules 2-3 times daily)
50mg zinc
B complex vitamin

I'm just wondering since bc is required while on accutane do you still have to pay for it or is it provided by your derm? I have insurance but I'd rather not pay for it if I don't have to and I'm pretty sure I'm on one of the more expensive bc's.
