22/08/13 - Improvements

So I think it's been 2 weeks since I started using BP again. Things have improved by quite a bit, which is good news. Everytime it comes to taking pictures, I'm reluctant. But whatever, IDGAF anymore.

To be specific, the side views seem to have improved a lot. Front has improved too.

I've avoided doing my hair / putting anything in it because I fear it'll affect my skin, so I feel weird taking pics like this. I've also avoided shaving for the last week or so (luckily I don't get hairy) to avoid any possible irritation around my chin area.

---

I've only been using BP for my face, nothing else. I haven't had back/chest/shoulder acne in a long time. I must have grown out of it, barring the occasional pimple. All I use for my body is a natural shower gel. If my body has grown out of it, why can't my face???

My chest has some old nasty keloid scars, which have basically ruined any confidence I had about my body. sad.png I decided to upload them anyway. A long time ago, the doctors prescribed a steroid tape to put on them. This reduced the size/flattened them A LOT, but once I stopped using it, they came back bigger. This is why I no longer trust doctors.

As for my back, you can see still marks where the acne used to be. Unfortunately I don't have any before pictures for this, but it used to be quite bad.

Anyways, 5 weeks 'til I go back to uni. smile.png

I hope your fairing with these scars. I too am a victim of keloid scars not only on my chest but few on my neck. My confidence has been once again derailed after building it up from a previous severe acne. On top of that I was stubborn to go to a dermatologist again after a bad experience with my first and second. In December I went to a new dermatologist who has been great. Took Accutane for 5 months, this month will be my 1st month of Accutane free and the results are awesome. Dry lips and skin are the side affects I experienced.

Anyways I've been getting kenalog shots aka steroid shots and I've noticed improvement. I was told that my scars will flatten out and that the redness will deminish. I'll be left with shiny scars is how she put it.

What I would like to know is how are you doing? Any progress? How's your social life? Have you shown your chest scars to anyone apart from these pictures? These keloid scars are draining me little by little. I'm 19 and i could get a GF anytime but I'm afraid of how she'll act once she feels/sees my scars. Hopefully mine will flatten and so will yours bro.

Hey man, just got an email about this comment (haven't been on here in almost 2 years)...

When I used benzoyl peroxide cream before, even though I was relatively clear, my skin still looked unhealthy and dull in person. So I decided to go back on antibiotics and avoid using products on my skin. I've used erythromycin and doxycycline - both worked really well. In fact my skin is the clearest it's ever been in a long long time. The only problem of course is that once I stop taking this stuff, my skin will probably go back to being worse again, But at least I;m not using strong gels on my skin for now.

As for my scars, unfortunately they got a lot worse... WheN I was using benzoyl peroxide, I was only using it on my face, not my chest because the skin is really sensitive. I didn't get many breakouts on my chest anyway, but whenever I did, it almost always led to a keloid because of the inflammation and clothes rubbing. I had to moisturise and be careful with everything to avoid the keoid developing. I went on like this for too long, and my keloids gradually got slightly bigger (and I got 1-2 more since then, all on my chest area).

Since being back on antibiotics I don't have a problem because the breakouts and inflammation is gone.

As far as I know the best treatment for keloids is the steroid injection thing, but where I live it's expensive (like £100-200 per session) and required multiple sessions possibly for years. I'm not sure if I can afford it and I'm worried it won't work anyway.

I've told a few of my friends and my Dad, but i don't think they understand the impact of having them. And when I showed one of my friends once, he was shocked I could tell, but then pretended it was nothing

I'm the same as u man. I basically never pursue relationships/opportunities anymore because of my keloids. i always think "what's the point, when she sees me witho9ut my shirt she'll think im disgusting" etc. It's ruined my confidence a lot. I used to be outgoing and sociable, now I'm more introverted and do my own thing, cycling, studies, family etc.

I hope your treatment works. Flat/shiny scars is better than hard lumps I have to admit

Bro I'm glad to hear that antibiotics are working for you. I've taken those two before and the last antibiotic I took before Accutane was doxycycline and boy did I go through a nightmare during that time period. Mainly because my previous dumb derm had me taking it 3 times a day 500mg per capsule so 1500 mg a day!!! Obviously antibiotics wipes your bacteria good and bad and on this high dosage it was an overkill and it caused  abdominal pain, bloody foul-smelling diaherrea and vomiting. I was bedridden twice each lasting 3 days in the span of about three weeks. Anyways that was extremely deadly and I, ME, decided to go off the antibiotics and I'm pretty sure I saved my life making this decision.

I've been getting the injections by my dermatologist and I can say I've noticed improvement, but very little though... My derm is too cautious and injects too little content into the scar. I try telling her to get more aggressive with the injections but she doesn't wanna take the risk of it indenting. I'm going to do my best to try to convince her next time which I go back in a week from now and hopefully she agrees... It sucks that you have to pay for it out of pocket maybe you should try once and see how it goes?

I can imagine how your friends face looked like. Of course people without these scars get startled seeing them especially in places where they wouldn't imagine such thing could happen. My mom has been really supportive and I show her the scars and everything. She's the one I can thank for keeping me from completely giving up.

Im with you on keeping to yourself isolating myself from friendships or any kind of relationships... That's why I hate making friends because I know I'll isolate myself from them and I hate leaving them in the dark...

I can wish you the best bro and keep pushing on :P Maybe in the near future I'll have as much courage as you and post some pics so others can learn from my mistakes and make better decisions I failed to make... Sorry for replying so late I've saw your post about a month or two ago but I was on mobile and the sites functions like content, settings, etc wasnt working for me. Anyhow keep positive bro
