Loving This Skin Care Regimen

I posted about the skin care regimen that I am currently using (as prescribed by my dermatologist) until I can get Accutane and I am absolutely loving it! My pores are much, much smaller and the dirt/ oil/ blackheads are all gone (except for a few on my nose). I don't have any new acne, just two small red marks from previous blemishes.

Here's the regimen:

AM

-Take oral antibiotic--100 mg Minocycline

-Wash face with 4% Benzoyl Peroxide face wash (PanOxyl brand) and leave on for 15 seconds before rinsing with warm water

-Rinse with cold water

-Apply a thin layer of a topical antibiotic to entire face (liquid gel) (Sulfacetimide Sodium Topical Suspension, 10%)

-Moisturize with CeraVe moisturizing face lotion

PM

-Take oral antibiotic--100 mg Minocycline

-Rinse face with warm water

-Remove makeup/ cleanse face with CeraVe Moisturizing Face Cleanser and warm water (using Olay Pro-X Spin Brush--gentle setting)

-Rise face with cold water

-Moisturize with CeraVe moisturizing face lotion (let soak in)

-Apply a thin layer of a topical antibiotic to entire face (liquid gel) (Sulfacetimide Sodium Topical Suspension, 10%)

-Wait 30 minutes

-Apply very small amount of a topical retinoid (Atralin 0.1%) to entire face (thin layer)

Questions for you:

  • Have you used this regimen or something similar before?
  • Did you use a skin care regimen that did a fairly good job of clearing up your acne, but still decided to start Accutane? How did it go? Did you still have an IB?

Mt regimen is similar. It attacks acne on all fronts. I use Retin-A, Benzaclin, topical clindamycin and for oral antibiotics I take amoxicillin and cephalexin interchangeably.

Yeah, I really like mine! I have used Benzaclin in the past and it's too strong for me--it makes my skin dry out so much that it turns brown and scabs and actually peels off! but I really like this regimen--it's gentle but still keeps my skin clear!
