Things to look out for when it comes to skin.. I read this in numerous magazines and find it to be somewhat true.

Change pillowcases often. The natural oils from our hair can cause pores to clog with we know leads to breakouts. So sleep with your hair in a ponytail or scarf.

Limit the types of hair products you use on your hair. These can also clog pores as our hair tends to come in contact with our faces.

Never touch your face if you can help it unless it's to wash or apply medicine. Even then make sure hands are clean. Bacteria breeds on our hands throughout the day.

Drink plenty of water. It said to have positive effects on skin and overall health.

Try to stay stress-free as possible. Now this is prob the hardest to do but engaging in activity you love to relieve stress will be easier than you think.

Just a few FYI's.

My battle with acne has been a somewhat extensive one. It ultimately started in my teenage years, when of course others are battling other issues, but it has since continued into my adult years, especially with cystic acne (I didn't have that in my teens). I finally realized I am a fortunate person that has insurance; why not use it? I have seen several derms throughout my years and I promised myself, this time, I am going to stick with my regiment. I felt this blog will be a great way to document my journey and potentially help others. I saw my current dermatologist on Jan. 1, 2014 so here we go. I have seen positive results after only 3 weeks, but not 100% yet. BUT IF YOU FIND A REGIMENT THAT WORKS FOR YOU, STICK WITH IT!!!! I cannot stress that enough.. This is my regiment below.


Wash with Cetaphil Daily cleanser

Pea size amount of Aczone all over the face

Aveeno ultra calming moisturizer (has SPF 15 and during summer I sometimes use Cetaphil daily moisturizer with SPF 30)

Clinique Acne Solutions liquid foundation

Clinique pressed powder (just to matte the foundation)

One Minocycline 100mg capsule (after breakfast)


Cetaphil cleanser

Clinique moisturizer for dry skin

Let dry for an hour

Pea size amount of Tazorac

One Minocycline 100mg capsule (after dinner)

I also am somewhat of a healthy eater but I do indulge in junk food every now and then. Unlike popular belief, I do feel like diet plays a part with acne, especially the consumption of water (I will get into that later), and depending on foods I eat I sometimes notice a change in my skin. Please note that I am also on the generic equivalent of Yaz birth control to regulate my hormones. A lot of you may be thinking how in the world can she afford all that?! Well with coupons from my dermatologist (which most have, just ask) and 90 supply at a time of the bc, I keep my cost pretty low. I will keep you all updated on my progress.
