The majority of us have dealt with acne problems in the past. Unfortunately, not everybody knows about home acne treatment. Most of the time, we are so used to seeing commercials and listening to doctors, that we are lead to believe we need some form of medication whether to clean the face, or to ingest by mouth. I have come across some pretty interesting acne remedies that are actually natural, yet I wouldn't personally suggest. So in order to save you some time, I have compiled my own list of some well known home remedies for acne that are safe and effective. There are a number of supporters who acknowledge the connection between diet and its ability to cause acne. For those who think otherwise, they should look more closely at the fact that Malaysia and rural Japan have far less acne problems than Western societies. Acne can develop as an allergic reaction to dairy products, the fat content of the dairy products can worsen the condition. Modern dairy and other animal products usually contain hormones and steroids that can upset the body's natural hormonal balance. Some common products that are known to promote acne are liquid milk including cheese, butter and ice cream. Processed foods are another cause of acne, and include all junk foods, refined foods (white flour, white sugar, and other refined sugars), processed meats (deli foods), unsaturated fats, margarine and other fake foods, and commercial meat, poultry, and dairy products which contain chemicals and hormones. Sometimes, simply treating any food allergies and avoiding junk or processed foods will prevent acne. However, if you have hormonal problems, changing your diet will not be sufficient to heal the acne.


Processed foods can also contribute to acne. Some foods that have been known to cause acne are your basic junk foods, refined foods (white flour, white sugar, and other refined sugars), processed meats (deli foods), unsaturated fats, and commercial meat, poultry, and dairy products which all include chemical that can cause acne. On some occasions, simply staying away from typically any unhealthy foods or processed foods will prevent acne. There are some instances when acne isn't due to an improper diet , sometimes our bodies hormones can become unbalanced and you are having hormonal problems, changing your diet alone will not be enough to clear your skin. Unfortunately, a lot of people either don't go to a doctor in hopes that their acne problem will go away on its own. That usually doesn't happen quickly, if at all. Then there are those who do go to the doctor. They are usually prescribed a medication of some sort. This acne medication can come in various forms. They could be ingested in pill form, applied with a topical cream, or an ointment. However form of medication to use, they all have chemicals in them that can be harmful to your skin and body. Because of this, many people seeking a natural way to treat acne turn to holistic methods. These natural home acne treatments have worked in many cases. With so many remedies, I would suggest trying one out at a time, if one doesn't work, you can try the next. Everybody's body is different on how it reacts to specific foods or natural ingredients. Not only will you help save your skin from being exposed to the harsh chemicals in store bought acne fighting products, but you will save money too. If you don't already have the ingredients for some of these home acne cures then you can find them at a local grocery store for cheap.

Here are some good Home Acne Remedies:

1. Apple cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a powerful natural remedy when it comes to fighting against acne. Apple Cider Vinegar or "ACV" kills off the bacteria that may be the source of the acne to begin with. It can also make it harder for bacteria to live by balancing out your skin's pH level. Just like lemon juice, apple cider vinegar is an astringent and will help dry up excess oil. However, you don't want to apply too much, as this can start to dry out your skin. Just use a cotton ball and apply it a few times a day to the affected area with acne. Leave it on for at least 10-15 minutes before removing.

2. Tea Tree Oil

There are many home remedies that include tea tree oil, but more importantly, the majority of these are for skin care, especially acne. Although it is called Tea tree oil, it isn’t like the oil your skin naturally produces, it's more like a cleanser that can break through dead skin cells and unclog pores. Its antibacterial properties will also kill the present acne causing bacteria, and prevent further acne in the future.

3. Banana Peel

Bananas are full of natural vitamins and their peels contain lutein, an extremely powerful antioxidant that can reduce swelling and inflammation, and encourage healthy cell growth. You can use the banana peel to rub on your skin. It will reduce the redness, and that uncomfortable pain that is caused by acne.

4. Lemon Juice

Lemons and have been known to help against acne for multiple reasons. Not only are lemons rich in vitamin C, which is good for all skin, but it's also a citric acid and will exfoliate the skin in the process. More importantly, it's also an astringent. An astringent will cause the body tissues to contract, this action will dry out the blemish itself. It also acts as a natural skin whitener, which helps reduce any redness. Drop some lemon juice on a Q- tip and apply to acne area.

5. Aloe

f you don't already have your own Aloe plant, you should grown or buy one. Aloe is a great plant to have around, especially for burns. If you don't have one, the Aloe vera gel from the store works as well. Not only will the cool feeling of the aloe sooth your skin, it's also an anti-inflammatory,this will decrease any redness and swelling. In addition, aloe is known to have antibacterial properties.

6. Egg Whites

Eggs are a great way to help reduce acne and you may already have some eggs in your refrigerator. Using egg whites is affordable and simple to do. Not only will it help fight acne but it will also fade scars left by unfortunate blemishes. The reason egg whites are helpful in clearing your skin is because they’re full of proteins and vitamins that both eliminates acne and helps rebuild your skin cells. The egg whites will also absorb excess sebum from the pores. This sebum oil allows bacteria to flourish and by keeping the oil levels controlled, your pores won't become clogged and lead to more acne problems. Just make sure to use a good moisturizer afterwards, as they can dry your skin out a bit. Just pick 2-3 eggs and seperate the whites from the yolk. You can use a finger tip to apply specific blemishes, or complete with layers. You can add up to 4 layers if you wanted. Just make sure the individual layer has dried before applying the next layer. After maybe 20 minutes if setting, you can wash off you face. Use moisturizer if needed lately. This is powerful stuff, it could dry your face if you use too much.

7. Orange Peel

Yes another amazing home acne remedy are oranges. besides the fact that you can eat them and obtain vitamins for your body, oranges are a great way to let our skin experience their cleansing power. An orange peel mask can help get rid of acne that is being caused by bacteria and extra oil, and clogging up the pores. The vitamin C contains citric acid which will act as an astringent. In addition, the vitamin C will promote the growth of new healthy cells, and keep your skin clean and clear.

8. Potato

We all know how good potatoes are to eat, but many people are unaware of the of its benefits such as getting rid of acne. Potatoes are full of potassium, sulfur, phosphorus, and chloride-all components that can reduce those red areas known as blemishes. As a natural acne treatment potatoes antioxidants that will nourish your skin and promote the growth of healthy new skin cells. All you need to do is grate a potato and take the pieces and juice to apply on your face. As always, wash your face and dry before applying any new substance to get any of the old oils and dead skin off first. But with the potato acne remedy you will want to leave your face moist. Apply your potato shreddings and juice from the grater in a circular motion and allow to dry. It should sit for about 10-20 minutes.

Before we learn what causes Acne, Let's answer the question, What is Acne?

Acne is one of the most common skin problems today and many people will experience it at one time or another. In fact, acne affects about 90% of all people at some time during their life. Acne is developed in the sebacious glands of the skin. The glands are attached to hair follicles, and secret an oily substance known as sebum, to keep our skin and hair lubricated.

Pores and hair follicles can become plugged with sebum, dead skin cells, bacteria, and other debris. Whiteheads or blackheads can also form just below the surface of the skin.

  • Whiteheads (also known as comedones) occur when the backed-up material is trapped below the skin's surface, forming a firm white bump.
  • Blackheads (also called open comedones) occur when the clogged material stretches the duct and its opening allowing it to become exposed to air. The resulting discoloration is not from dirt, but the result of the oxidation of gland products and accumulation of pigment. (Some individual's skin has larger pores; these are not blackheads though,they are a normal variation of skin.)

Pimples (or pustules) occur when the material remains backed up, begins to irritate the surrounding tissues and cause inflammation, redness and perhaps some pain. In severe cases of acne, cysts (fluid-filled sacks) develop. Without the proper treatment, cysts may increase the chances of scarring.

Three Causes of Acne

Hormones: During puberty, the body produces more androgen-type hormones, this cause the sebaceous glands to enlarge and produce more sebum. Because males produce more androgens than females, they tend to have more severe cases of acne.

Heredity: Yes, this too can influences the size and activity of the sebaceous glands. The larger and more active the glands are, the greater the chance of developing acne.

Bacteria: Normal skin bacteria (e.g. propionibacterium acnes) can act upon sebum to produce irritating substances, this will in turn result in inflammation when the substances get released into the surrounding skin.

Other Factors that Can Contribute to Acne Problems

For those who are sufferinf from minor acne problems like a few blackheads or pimples, start washing the face gently with a mild soap 2-3 times a day. Don't overdo it, excessive cleaning can actually make acne worse. You don't want to dry out your skin either. Then you will have white flakes of ded skin peeling and falling off. There are some non-prescription products with benzoyl peroxide that have an antibacterial and drying effect. This can help to unblock pores to prevent them from getting clogged ahead of time. Be careful with this, as some people's skin is more sensitive than others and may react differently.

Certain cosmetics, hair care products and moisturizers may block pores. Check labels and choose products that are water-based, oil-free and non- comedogenic (won't clog pores).

Oily hair can contribute to clogging the surface of pores, so be sure to shampoo your hair on a regular basis.

It may be tempting sometimes but avoid picking at blackheads, whiteheads or pimples. This can irritate the area and cause infection, increased inflammation and scarring.

In addition, humidity or heat that causes excessive sweaty can lead to signs of acne. Avoid hats and headbands that could cause sweat to drip down and combine with dirt and oil on your face.

Stress and emotions can also add to the likelihood of developing acne problems. Seek out ways to release that frustration and energy. Find a place to relax and maybe meditate to ease the mind.

Another importan factor that affects acne is your diet.

If you're prone to outbreaks of acne, you should try cutting back on empty carbs and sweets. Researchers are revisiting the connections between a proper diet and acne like pimples, and a growing body of evidence suggests that eating a diet rich in high glycemic index foods may be tied to an increased appearance of acne.

Researchers say foods that spike blood sugar can also increase hormones. The hormones can stimulate oil production, which in turn, can trigger acne.
