My Clear Skin Journey

Entries in this blog

Hello Everyone!

So, I'm on my second week on the Exposed Skin Care Line. The pamphlet says that my acne might get worse in the first two week and it definitely has. It isn't so bad though, I've had a lot worse on other systems and medications. My main problem is that the old pimples have left dark marks all over my face. I've heard they take months to go away, so I'll have to patient. I feel really hopeful at the moment, as hard as it is to keep trying new products all the time. At the moment I'm currently on Abilify, Celexa, and Clonazepam (don't know brand name). I'm really hoping these medication don't cause dermatological problems. Anyway, I've attached a picture of what my face looks like after 11 days on the skin care line. Wish me luck on this program biggrin.png

New Beginnings

So I have been on Differin since Dec 2012 and so far it has improved my skin a little. However, I had been on and off cleaners like crazy. I was mainly on the Bert’s Bees Acne Wash, but it didn’t really do much for my skin. I am stopping the Differin and trying out a new acne line called Exposed Skincare. I’ve seen really great reviews online, so I thought I might as well give it a try. I’m hoping to be updating more frequently than I did for Differin.

The Exposed Skincare line has to be bought online and there are three kits you can buy, each one varying in the number of products. I chose to go with the Ultimate Kit which came with 9 different items. There are other kits that contain less than this and are not as expensive. I can’t remember exactly how much I paid, but it was around $114.00 including shipping. My kit contained:

  • facial cleanser
  • clearing tonic
  • acne treatment serum
  • clear pore serum
  • moisture complex
  • a derm-X cloth
  • probiotic complex (vitamins taken orally)
  • clarifying mask
  • microderm scrub

The company uses both natural and scientific ingredients. Some of the natural ingredients include green tea extract, passion flower, etc. The scientific ingredients include salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, etc.

So, I decided to purchase the kit and I was extremely impressed with the shipping process. I would receive emails telling me when my order was processed, when it was being shipped, the expected day of arrival, etc. For one thing, the estimated day of arrival was correct because I received my package on the day it specified and it was only 5 days since I ordered it online. I even received a couple emails in between discussing the causes of acne and methods besides cleaners to help (like changing your pillowcase every 2 days). If found these emails extremely helpful, and I am impressed overall with the ordering process. It couldn’t have become any easier.

Trying the Kit for the First Time:

I received my kit during the day, so I had to wait until bedtime to try it out. The mini-booklet inside clearly states how to use the products and how much of the product you should use depending on your skin type. It also discussed the stages your skin goes through every week that you are on the skincare line. You are supposed to use certain products in the morning and certain ones in the evening. I first started in the evening which involves the facial cleanser, clearing tonic, clear pore serum, and moisture complex.

All the products I used in the evening felt wonderful on my skin. There was a scent to each of them, but the scent was very pleasant to me. They almost smelled like things you would find in nature. Even though my face gets oily, products in the past have made my skin very dry and peel. These products did not make my skin feel dry or tight at all when I was using them. Each product felt really gentle and soft on my skin, giving me a clean feeling at the same time. The moisture complex was my favourite so far because it felt really refreshing and made my face incredibly soft, without making it super greasy / oily. Overall, after using the products for the first time, I am very happy so far. As for the results, we will just have to see what happens. Also, if anyone wants me to go into more detail about each product individually, then I can definitely do so.

Sorry that the post was so long, they won’t be this long from now on smile.png

Let’s hope Exposed Skincare was worth the purchase and help me on my acne journey!

Hello Everyone!

I haven't been on in the longest time, so I thought it would be best to write before I forget again! So I have been on Differin 0.1 for the past 6 weeks. Tomorrow will be the start of the 7th week. I have had about 3 major breakouts since I've started using it. The first breakout was around the first or second week, the next was around the 4th week, and my last breakout was at the beginning of the 6th week. For the second two breakouts I am pretty sure I know why they happened and I'm not sure if it was because of the differin itself. The second breakout was around exam time and the last breakout I went to the gym without taking my makeup off and then I put more makeup on after sweating! Stupid.....I know, but the gym absolutely sucks when you have acne!

As of right now, my skin is doing okay! My skin is pretty smooth on the sides and my forehead is a little rough with tiny pimples. I haven't had many large pimples since my last breakout, but I'm worried I'm jinxing it just by saying that! My dark marks have become a little lighter, but I heard it takes months for them to fade, which sucks because they look like pimples even though they are smooth to the touch. I am getting little pimples around my hairline right down to my ears, but I think my shampoo might be the culprit. I started using a new one right around the same time that I had my most recent breakout.

I'm going to try to post more often, but school might get in the way! I'm going to post some pictures of what my skin looks like now (end of 6th week). My face might look a little red because I had just taken my foundation off smile.png

So i have been using differin for 5 days now and my face is definitely worse! The first time I used differin my face didn't start breaking out until the third week of using it. I also have exams right now, so that's probably not helping either. I've been getting really big pustules all over my face, mainly on the sides, jaw and chin area. My face is also a little dry which I knew would start happening. My old acne marks also seem to be a lot more pronounced and red. I'm still only using a washcloth with water, which could also be making me break out. I'm thinking about starting on a new gentle face wash, but I'm just not sure which one! Are there any all natural brands? I want to stay away from anything that would contribute to drying my face out!

It hasn't even been a week yet, so I'm still hopeful that it will help me. Trying not to pick at my face has been difficult and I'm also not trying to have a complete meltdown because of how bad my face is getting. Neither will help my acne and will definitely make it worse. I've heard that you have to give it 8 to 12 weeks for it to start improving and I'm willing to stick with it until then! I just hope I don't lose my mind!

Hopefully I'll get some pictures up for Tuesday :)

So my face is finally settled down from the chemical burn I got from using the mask the other day! My skin is still dry in some areas, but it is so much better! Like I said before I am using a wash cloth and only water in my face and so far it's been great in letting my skin calm down! Now it just feels like its getting a little clogged, so I was thinking of going back on my differin. I was put on it a month or two ago and I really liked it at first! However, I had been using it for about 7 weeks and my skin was in terrible condition! This made me stop using it for a week, thinking that it just wasn't working! I started it again a week later and only stayed on it for a few weeks and the same thing happened again!! I've heard great things about differin and I really want it to work for me! I've also heard it takes a long time to see results. I probably didn't wait it out long enough last time to start seeing improvements! So I think I'm ready to stay committed to it and this is my last attempt using a product before considering accutane! I really don't want to go on accutane, so I hope this works! Now that I have found this website, hopefull it can help me through the rough patches in the first couple weeks! I'm going to keep a weekly log of the progress and hopefully there will be some improvement eventually. Wish me luck! :)

Ok, so it's only been a day or two of not using any products and I feel that my face is getting better already! Like I said in my previous post, I must have destroyed my face with all the chemicals I was slapping on it! My skin doesn't look like a tomato now! The overall colour of my face is not as red as it was! The redness of my pimples has definitely diminished too! I have a couple new bumps but they are probably an after effect of the damage I did the other week! However, my face is still very dry and I think it will be that way until it starts calming down again! I eventually want to add a gentle cleanser to my regimine after my skin has calmed down, does anybody have any suggestions? Also another thing that I've been trying to adopt is drinking more water!! I am soooo bad at not drinking enough..... I could literally go a week without drinking it, except to brush my teeth! Pretty bad eh! But today I managed to drink 9 cups of water and hopefully I can keep that up! I've literally never gone without some sort of harsh product, so I hope this experiment is worthwhile smile.png

And check out the photos in my gallery from only two days later!! - Pictures Titled Day 2 :P

About Me!

I have been completely fed up with my acne! I have been struggling with acne since I was in elementary school and it has just become progressively worse. I have spent thousands of dollars trying to help with this debilitating skin condition, with no luck. I have kind of let my skin go because of University and I am currently battling mental illness, which has caused me to break out. As a person with multiple debilitating mental illnesses, acne is just another trigger that can cause extreme episodes. I always wonder if anyone else is in the same boat as I am (maybe that will be a separate entry)? Anyways, I've tried every cleanser, toner, moisturizer, mask, prescription, laser treatment you could ever imagine. I was even on antibiotics from my dermatologist for a while, but that didn't help. The only thing I haven't tried is Accutane! I'm too nervous to go on it because I've heard horror stories about it. However, I've also heard that it has saved peoples' lives, so I'm very conflicted. I have basically given up on products all together and I want to go back to the basics. For the first while I want to just use water and a washcloth since I chemically burnt my face from a mask I had just used. My skin has literally been cracking it is so dry and flaky! After a couple days or weeks of using only water, I'm going to try to find an extremely gentle cleanser and stick with it! I think my face has just become so terrible because of all the different chemicals that I've used on it! My skin needs a break! I have heard some positive feedback from the water-washcloth method, so I'm going to try to update my progress every week (hopefully with pictures). Wish me luck!

A little info about myself and my skin:

- I am 19 years old and has had acne since I was little

- I have been diagnosed with PCOS in the past, but it seems to be under control

- I usually have very oily skin with mild to severe acne

- my face has been red all over, probably from all the crap i've been putting on it

- I mainly break out on the sides of my face, on my cheekbones, jawline, cheeks and sometimes on my forehead (basically everywhere!)

- I have an obsessive habit of picking at my skin - which definitely adds to the problem

- I have dark pigmented marks all over my face from old pimples
