I don't really have much to say since I just posted a couple days ago and as for my skin, i'll let the pictures do the talking. surprised.gif

This first one was a coupe days after I started accutane. My skin was never horrible but you can see the oilyness and im breaking out on my chin a lot.

This was I believe in March so one month after starting accutane. Still oily, and have a couple pimples. I have make up on in this and the previous one. I didn't really take any designated photos for this haha.

This is the end of April. (Please don't mind my nakedness lol) Have a few bumps on my cheek and i'm still a little oily. I actually broke out pretty bad a little bit later this week which sucked because I was on vacation in Florida. No make-up on in this one.

Last but not least, this is me today. I look scruffy because I just woke up haha. No make-up on and I haven't even brushed m hair so don't make fun of me lol! Obviously a huge improvement. This is 3 days into month 5, which according to my doc is most likely my last month! rolleyes.gif

Questions, comments, concerns? Voice them! I love hearing from everyone!

Start To Month 5!

I went for my 4 month check up last Thursday, I am staying on 80 milligrams for this month but... This is probably my last month! Yayyyy! I'm so happy! My skin is pretty much 100 percent clear. It is simply, amazing. I can't even describe just how happy it makes me feel. No side effects at all. I moisturize with cetaphil twice a day and my skin stays nice most of, if not the entire day. I also use aquaphor a couple times a day, but that's it. How is everyone else doing? Don't lose hope, Accutane works, no doubt about it!

Month 4

Wow, I haven't been on here since my last derm appointment about a month ago. Anyways month three was not as good as previous months. I broke out a lot more than I had been. I was on 60 milligrams for all of month three. I went to the derm last week and she upped me to 80 milligrams, since then my skin has improved. It's very nice. Still a lot of imperfections that can be improved upon but it's not too bad. Still no real side effects. Just dry lips but no cracking or anything. No headaches, joint pain, or even dry skin as long as I moisturize correctly.

I've heard from a lot of different people that the fourth month is the magic month when you really starting seeing great results, I hope that's true! I can't believe I only have this month and then one more month if all goes according to plan!

Okay so first things first, I went to the dermatologist today for my checkup, this will be the start of my third month. Holy crap time is flying! She said my skin is looking really good and I have to agree, I hardly have anything going on, I haven't even had to wear any make-up the last week, just tiny bits of cover-up, that has been REALLY nice. Anyways though, my derm upped my dose to 60 MG because my face still has some shine to it. She said this is probably the highest we will end up going, she said I can go up to 80 MG but she doesn't think I will need to! Awesome! rolleyes.gif I'm excited for this month. Also today was the first time that they were able to get my blood at the office instead of having to send me to a lab, so that was nice as well even though BOTH arms are bruised now because they stabbed me 3 times, damn my veins lol.

So here is where the rant part is going to begin. I am sick of reading all the people's crap on here about how accutane "isn't safe" and should be used as a last resort and blah blah blah. First of all, that's your own opinion and you probably haven't done much research or any research you HAVE done has been extremely biased because of the stigma around accutane. Accutane yes, causes some side effects, and you CAN NOT get pregnant but anyone can figure that out. However, while you are on accutane especially now, with the Ipledge program, you are being monitored through your blood and your knowledge. It is ridiculous to say someone with bad enough acne or persistent acne shouldn't go on accutane. Any medication is going have a long list of POSSIBLE side effects. Can I just stress the word possible a little more. Some people may have more problems than others and some people, like me, may have zero issues whatsoever. It depends on the person completely. Also a lot of the side effects can be completely avoided by doing the right things from the start. Drink a lot of water I guarantee you won't get headaches, muscle aches, and your skin will be a lot happier. Moisturize and moisturize again. There are a lot of products on the market and your derm can even prescribe something if your skin is super dry. I personally have been using coconut oil and that stuff does wonders. Anyways, the whole point of this crazy rant is that I think it is unfair to criticize people for the medicines they choose to be on. When your skin is bad, your whole life is affected and it's unfair, accutane is pretty much the one sure way to get rid of acne for a period or permanently. If someone wants to go on it, let them, be supportive, and if you have nothing supportive to say, don't say anything.

Sorry for the long, rant but I just needed to get that out. I'd also just like to say a little something about coconut oil. That stuff is miraculous! I rub it on my face at night and sleep with it on, I wake up and my skin looks so ridiculously healthy and pretty that I can't help but smile, also my skin is like baby-butt soft. Coconut oil is packed with vitamins and nutrients and can do your skin, hair, nails, teeth, and digestive system, a world of good. Uhm also, it makes your face or body or hair smell super nice lol. http://www.organicfacts.net/organic-oils/organic-coconut-oil/health-benefits-of-coconut-oil.html <---- That is a really good website describing everything wonderful about coconut oil.

Sorry this is a long jumbled post, I had a lot to say (obviously). If anyone has any questions, comments, concerns, whatever feel free to respond! cool.png

Okay so since last post my skin has cleared up again, it looks pretty damn good so i'm happy again lol. I honestly think when I broke out a week or two ago, it was due to the fact that I was on my period. I only get my period once every 3 months due to the birth control i'm on so I never really think about it, but after my cycle ended my skin seemed to clear up. (sorry for any men who read this haha) Anyways, I go back to the derm in 4 days and i'm hoping I get bumped up to at least 60 MG. I haven't had any other side effects except for maybe a little more dryness since I was bumped up to 40 MG. It seems like I should be having at least like lip dryness or something! Maybe I am just really lucky though, either way, I hope to get a high dosage lol. I'll let you all know how it goes. I'm excited that i'll be starting month three since I hear this or month four is when things start to dramatically clear up.

Besides that whole rant, no new side effects. I'm drinking a ton of water and I realllllly think that helps a lot with all the known side effects. I go to the gym every day and usually run at least 3 miles a few times a week and still don't ever have any joint pain or anything like that. Seriously, I think drinking tons of water is the way to avoid a lot of this stuff.

I hope everyone's journeys are going well!

Claravis Day 45

So, my last post was about how happy I was with my new dose and how my derm told me that my skin shouldn't get any worse. Yeah, she lied. My skin was perfect looking until about a week ago, and now I have been breaking out on my cheeks and around my mouth in some bigger pimples. They aren't the huge under the skin kind or anything, but they aren't tiny either. It's just kind of a pain. I'm still very upbeat about it though, I know I am just going to improve. I'm excited for the 3 month mark because I have read that that's when a lot of people start seeing really good results. Not too much longer :-) The time is flying by. I can't believe I will be going back to the derm in 2 weeks for more dreaded blood work. I hate needles with a passion and the derm can never get the needle in a vein and has both times ended up sending me to a lab. Also, my skin is starting to get pretty dry. It's not noticeable though, until I try to put makeup on. It's unfortunate because once I put makeup on my skin looks flaky and I think, even worse than it did without makeup so maybe I will just try to stick to a cover-up or something. I just can't wait to have perfect skin. I wish there was something I could put on these pimples to help them go away, but my derm insists I don't use ANY other acne medications which sucks. Should I maybe exfoliate or something? I also touch my face a lot. I have gotten a ton better since i started my course but I still have a habit of touching, and picking when I get bored. I really need to stop because I think a lot of my breakouts started because I started getting into such a bad habit of popping things and picking at things. I guess I'll just continue to try and improve.

I haven't had any new side-effects. My skin doesn't even seem much more sensitive to sunlight. I have such pale skin as it is though that maybe i'm just used to being extremely sensitive to sun lol. Lips are a little dry still but nothing my aquaphor can't manage. Other than that nothing to report.

I hope everyone else's journeys are going well!

Accutane Update

Well it's been a while since Iaat posted, i'm in day I guess 31 now. I went to the derm last Friday and everything is great! She said my skin is responding really really well. I have had no side effects, my skin isn't even really dry. However, my derm did up me to 40 milligrams which I find super exciting! I'll just keep drinking lots of water and use tons of lotion still. :-)

Anyways besides that my dermatologist also gave me more good news which is that I won't have to be on Accutane for more than 5 months and probably only 4! Yayyyy I'm so happy about that. She also said that since I haven't broken out or anything during the first month I should just continue to improve, and not break out anymore the rest of my journey. This is all so exciting to me!

Well, I guess that's really all, maybe next time I'll post a picture or something. Wish me luck that this month goes as well as last month did!

Claravis Day 17

I'm not even really sure why i'm updating. Nothing has really changed. Well okay thats not true. My skin looks pretty good, my dad saw me for the first time in about a week yesterday and he said my skin looks a lot cleaner. So far no initial breakout, my skin is just a little pink, but my skin is always pink so it really doesn't bother me. I guess i'm pretty lucky thus far. No side effects. Haven't had another headache, I just drink water non-stop. My skin isn't really dry still. I just have a couple little flakes right around my mouth, my lips have been a little bit more dry than they have been. Aquaphor is awesome though, I just use it a couple times a week and it's all good. My hair has been a little more dry lately which is nice because I can skip a day of washing every now and then but i've noticed that when I skip a day of washing my scalp gets really itchy. My blackheads are surfacing it seems like, which is just weird looking but I can only tell when i'm two inches from my face. The only other thing that has happened since my last post is that I have a little cold and sometimes when I blow my nose little flecks of blood come out, or little clumps. It's strange but really not an issue. I know it's awful but I still pick at things sometimes, well not pick, but occasionally pop little things. Everything heals super quick though, I am extremely lucky. Anyways if anyone has any questions, or comments, let me know!! Sorry this is a pretty boring post if anyone actually reads it. Remember to all try to be positive! Picture at the bottom obviously. Just a few little spots, it's better than it was before though, and you can see the pink in my cheeks.

Claravis Day 13

I just took my pill for today. It's a lot later than usual but I woke up super late cuz I was out super late. I have drank twice since I have been on Claravis, my doctor never said anything about not drinking, I really probably shouldnt drink though. Anyways though onto my skin. My skin isn't dry still, I still don't really have any big breakout, just a couple really little things. No under the skin big painful things. My blackheads look like they are surfacing or something though? I have no idea if maybe i'm just imagining that though lol. My lips are a little dry but aquaphor a few times a day takes that right out. I had my first headache yesterday, man it was AWFUL. Like just crippling pain throughout my whole head. I will never not drink enough water again, because that was horrible. Anyways though, no complains. Just super excited to see what the next few months bring :-)

Claravis (Accutane) Journey

Alright, I know there are about a million of these logs on this site, but I feel like this will be a good support for me while i'm on Claravis (which I is of course a generic brand of accutane). Anyways though, my name is Heather and I started Clarvis 9 days ago. I am on 20 mg a day which I feel like isn't a very high dosage, but hey i'm not a dermatologist. I weigh 133 and am about 5'7. My skin isn't really all that bad but I have been on EVERYTHING under the sun, and have been going to a derm since I was I think 14 and I turned 21 in November of 2011. My first derm put me on the newest products every time he saw me and nothing he ever put me on helped so I turned to a new derm who put me on things that were actually supposed to help people with acne that had persisted other topical meds and what not. And then 2 years of all the antibiotics my derm could think of she said accutane was the next step. I was sooooo unbelievably happy. My brother went on accutane right around the same time I did, he was on it for 4 months and has never had acne since, he is 31 now.

Anyways, so far so good. I haven't broken out any worse than I was when I started claravis. Just a little bit of dryness, but honestly it's less dry than it was when I was on whatever antibiotic I was on before clarvis and tazorac. The tazorac made my skin flaky, but it was still oily and I don't know it was just strange. I have a few little whiteheads right now on my jawline, and then just 1 big under the skin pimple that is on my cheek bone and it hurts really badly. Does anyone know if I can do anything to try to help the big zit hurt less or be less red or anything? I am trying really hard not to pop things but it is tough because I used to pick my skin ALL the time,

Other than all that, I take my Claravis in the morning with breakfast and a full glass of water, I drink a ton of water, like just a TON. I have been really proactive about my skin care since I started claravis and for the whole month before I started. I use aquaphor on my lips whenever they feel dry and definitely right before bed and once i wake up. The only other things I use are an aveeno oatmeal bar in the morning in the shower which is super moisturizing and reduces redness because of the oatmeal, it is also scent free. I then use cetaphil lotion on my face after I get out of the shower and when that dries completely I use cetaphil moisture balm (I think) which is just a super thick lotion. I do the same thing at night only I use a cetaphil face wash instead of the aveeno bar. I'm prone to dry skin so the extra lotion seemed like a must for me.

Eek! Sorry for the book for anyone who actually reads this, I just want to get it all out there.

If anyone has anything to share please do! I'd be curious to know if I have surpassed when an inital breakout will occur or if I should still be waiting anxiously to see if I get one. My brother said he never had a bad breakout on it so i'm hoping i'm as lucky as him! The picture is of me right now. It is a seriously AWFUL picture but you can see the red mark on my cheek from the big one I have now and some of the little things by my chin, and well all the other gross stuff on my face :-( It's not horrible though, i'm just happy to be on accutane and really looking forward to everything thats to come!
