Pyoderma Faciale + Accutane

Entries in this blog

I only have 1.5 days left of Accutane! I can't believe I made it throughout the entire treatment. Although dry, my skin is smooth and glows.

The only scars I have are some red marks that I can easily cover up with make-up. A pain, but I'm okay with it. Although I haven't posted regularly, this site has been so helpful when I visited and read others' stories or needed support. THANK YOU!

I had to give up the miracle drug for 10 days. My cholesterol was elevated so I worked really hard to get that down -- and I did. But, my Triglycerides levels went up so I had to do a 10 day break. I restarted Accutane this week. I really, really hope I can make it to the end of my four or five months on this love/hate medication.

So, this week my lips are getting dry again, as is my skin. No hair loss (thank goodness!). Stomach upset the first two days when I got back on. Tired, tired, tired.

I did have two small cysts emerge and one came to a head. My fingers are crossed that they'll both just fade away.

Still on 60 mg a day. I'm eating low carb, healthy proteins so I can stay on Accutane. Working out four to eight times a week, cardio + some weights. Maybe I'll also loose the last 10 - 15 nagging pounds between now and end of March.

Accutane Day 34

I cried duing my monthly appointment on Friday. I just hate all of this and feel overwhelmed, but not suicidal or anything. I had a sinus infection this month and having a monthly cycle again (b/c IUD came out) is really hard. The hormones surging make me so touchy... Don't miss that at all!

This is still an emotional rollercoaster, even though I feel better and my skin looks SO MUCH BETTER. With makeup, you can barely tell I've had any issues over the last few months. 'Tane is some strong stuff. All other bad symptoms have subsided. Now only tired sometimes (but that could happen any day) and dry.

I've had a few pimples, but they're clearing up quickly. A bad sinus infection meant a heavy round of Doxy + Cortisone (Kenalog) shot. I'm sure those drugs added to the success of my skin, but it was a lot ot manage. You shouldn't really take Doxy + Accutane at the same time, but the sinus and ear infection came on in less than 48 hours and was bad, bad, bad. So, I went to see an ENT last week. Don't know how many more 'specialist' Dr Appts I can handle on my calendar. But, I can't take Doxy or do any more cortisone and my allergy shots aren't killin' the possibilities of sinus infections.

My skin is so smooth. The red spots are fading. My skin is dry and my hands itch, so lotion is a constant. My eyes were dry last week and had to go get eye drops.

During the dr appt -- My daily dose will go up from 40 mg to 60 mg. I should get my new dosage today!

Accutane Day 22

Accutane is a friggin' miracle drug! My skin is smooth again and I haven't seen a cyst or pimple in days. I was at three Holiday events this week and felt pretty good.

Best concealer ever - Lancome's undereye cream is great for all residual red spots left behind by bad pimples and cysts. As long as there isn't an open sore, than this waterproof concealer will be your best friend. It will make you look smooth and 'normal' again.

Stomach issues - Subsided now, but I'm worried that my doc might up my dosage duruing my first month's Accutane check-up (Next Friday, Dec 16). We'll see...

Alcohol - I'm totally laying off the holiday drinks at parties b/c I don't want a bad liver test that will yank away the Accutane.

Accutane Day 12

Pimple update: I've had two other small pimples that have come and gone - one by my hairline on my forehead and one on my jawline. Then, two days ago I started getting a pyodermic faciale big cyst. A BIG ONE. Dark read and throbbing. It is smaller today and still closed because I no longer pick at my face. Ever.

Acanya: I'm still putting Acanya on pimples when they surface. I'll do this until my skin becomes too flakey. I think it helps them go away quickly.

Accutane Side Affects: Sun-sensitivity is high! The Thanksgiving car ride left me with a little sunburn. I buttoned up my jacket, rolled down the sleeves and turned up the AC. It hurt worse than it looked. And, I have loose BMs in the morning. Will that go on for the next four 1/2 months? Annoying.

Other than that, my skin is clearing up. Still glad I got on Accutane.

Accutane Day 4

I am so excited to finally start Accutane! I'm a 36-year old mom of two, married and a business owner. Pyoderma Faciale has taken over my life since Labor Day Weekend - not that I knew what it was at that point in time. My 'new normal' includes painful cysts and stares from people. I've worn band aids to business meetings, the gym, the grocery store, the PTA and restaurants. My fabulous business partner has covered meetings for me because I didn't want to see clients or go to events. I've been depressed (so much better now). I can't wait for this to be over.

I started Accutane four days ago. I had a headache yesterday and have felt tired, but those are the only "side effects" I've seen so far. And, honestly, I could be tired any day of the week.

I do have a new, regular pimple that debuted two days ago; it is right next to my nose. A pimple? Really? I haven't had one of those in years and years! Only very painful cysts the last 2 1/2 months. LOL!

The pyoderma faciale section of my face looks okay. Two cysts - one larger than the other. No cysts on my jaw line. My P.F. large pink/red spot doesn't have any acne in it right now. There are flat, red spots where cysts have disappeared. My fingers are crossed that Accutane will help those go away too.
