New Product

I am testing out a new product. Now that spring has sprung (even in icy Minnesota) I have to use a sunscreen moisturizer. I selected Cetaphil spf 30 oil control moisturizer for acne prone skin. See below. Other than the addition of a new moisturizer no big changes to my regimen. Unfortunately my experiment with reducing my dosage of amoxicillin has failed miserably. I am still averaging 9 500mg pills each day compared to the simple 3 500mg pills a day I am prescribed to take. I have no answers as to why. I felt some aches under my skin, quickly upped the dosage and they went away instantly. As of today I have zero pimples but as I near the end of my 30 day supply of amoxicillin I am growing concerned. My dermatologist stopped filling my double refills. I used to take Keflex for 15 days and then Amoxil for 15 days. My latest request for Keflex was denied. Ouch! I hope I wont breakout after I run out and am forced to wait a full 15 days to get a refill. I am actually panicking! AAHHHH!!

Reduction In Consumption Of Amoxil

Ok, so previously I have blogged about taking ridiculous amounts of amoxicillin and cephalexin. 12-14 pills per day. This month I started taking the prescribed dose exclusively; which is 3 500mg pills per day. The good news is that I have not gotten any new blemishes. My skin is still perfectly clear aside from a few unfortunate scars. I made the mistake of asking my daughter if she thought my scars were fading and she said she didn't know. That was her polite way of saying no. But I still have faith that the scars will fade over time because skin cells shed daily and I have noticed a strong improvement over the past year. My regimen is the same with the exception of the reduced antibiotic intake.
1. Benzaclin
2. Tretinoin
3. Amoxil
4. Topical clindamycin
5. Antibacterial soap containing P.acnes killing triclosan

Now that my acne is under control my next goal is to lose weight. I recently gained weight due to depression but I am on meds and improving.

Spring is finally here in Minnesota. The last of the snow is melting as we speak. I have to make a very important purchase. I need to buy moisturizer with spf. I am thinking neutrogena. I am open to suggestions. My skin is still acne free. I am still o.d.ing on amoxicillin. Benzaclin, check. tretinoin, check. clindamycin check. since I use tretinoin, I get sunburned easily.
My self-esteem is better now that my skin is clear. I fear my days of blogging are numbered since I keep saying the same thing over and over. Once you find your cure, there is very little to report.
Fully Stocked....

I have been so inspired by all the bloggers this week. Today I am so happy because I got my amoxicillin AND my benzaclin (generic of course). Right now I have zero pimples for the sixth month straight. My regimen is as follows:

1. Take three amoxicillin 500mg strength pills. 7:00am
2. Wash face with hibiclens antiseptic soap. Kills P. Acnes on contact and for up to 6 hours later. 7:15am
3. Apply benzaclin twice a day, morning and night. 8:00am and again at 8:00pm
benzaclin is a cream mix of benzoyl peroxide 5% and the topical antibiotic clindamycin 1% strength.
4. Around 3:00pm wash face again with (triclosan) liquid antibacterial soap.
5. Apply tretinoin mixed with clindagel at 3:00pm

Has anyone else experienced this?: when I wash my face, the dead skin is just sloughed off onto my fingertips and it is a lot of dead skin that I can see. I know benzoyl peroxide can exfoliate but so can retin-a which I also use religiously. Anywho...just wondering if anyone else out there has experienced this. Let me know.

I have nothing really new to say. My skin is still clear and I am still using the same prescribed medications to successfully control my acne. I just want to caution everyone away from unproven treatments. I recently read a post promoting urine therapy and someone else whose complexion was devestated by going "caveman" (no washing or exfoliating of the face and worse, no acne treatments whatsoever). If you have acne, please, for christ's sake, see a fuking doctor.

I Am No Doctor Or Nurse But I Know A Guaranteed Cure For Cystic Acne And All Acne In General...

Guaranteed cure you need the following:

1. A prescription for Amoxicillin
2. A prescription for Cephalexin
3. A prescription for benzaclin
4. A prescription for topical clindamycin
5. A prescription for tretinoin or Retin-A Micro

The routine:
every hour take two amoxicillin for 15 days
after 15 days take two cephalexin every hour for 15 days (this means you have to find a way to get both prescriptions. I suggest getting an rx for amoxicillin 500mg 3x day from your dermatologist and then in the same breath, get a rx for cephalexin from your primary doctor by stating that you can't get an appointment with your dermatologist for 3-4 months.) I know this is dishonest but its only a small lie with a huge payoff. My theory, after having gone through this process is that the Propionibacterium acnes colonize the host's (you) blood thereby allowing it to relentlessly reproduce itself. While the p.acnes is at work undisturbed, it produces countless blemishes on your face, chest, neck and back. Once the bacteria reaches a certain concentration in the blood, it can only be stopped by massive doses of anti-biotics. Most dermatologists know this but because of the risk of side effects they wont prescribe a curative dose. Through experimentation, I found that the breakouts can be stopped by taking 14 500mg pills of amoxicillin or cephalexin every day for one year. After that, you can go back down to the prescribed dose which is 2 or 3 pills per day.

Some roadblocks you may run into. Insurance only covers one bottle of each antibiotic per month. You actually need two per month to do this. You need two bottles of amoxicillin and two bottles of cephalexin. The antibiotics must be amoxicillin and cephalexin, members of the penicillin family. Antibiotics that wont work: minocycline, doxycycline hyclate, tetracycline and erythromycin. They cause nausea and barely touch P.acnes ruthless ability to reproduce itself. That means two bottles a month must be paid for in cash. You'll end up paying between $8.00-$14.00 per bottle. You'll have to tell various lies, such as, I am going on vacation and need my antibiotics early or simply I lost my pill organizer. I've tried them all and it worked everytime. The antibiotics become like cocaine...you need more and more and you'll do anything to get them. I DON'T DO DRUGS AND DON'T ADVOCATE DRUG USE but I do advocate anti-biotic abuse lmao...it kills bacteria and shuts out its little Fuk fest. I have been doing this regimen for two years and I never hade any side effects. If you try my regimen and get diarrhea try eating yogurt each morning, if that doesn't work, go back to the required as prescribed dose which is about two-three pills per day. If you ever have bloody diarrhea stop all antibiotics and seek medical treatment immediately.

Enough about the antibiotics, onto to the topical meds. My theory is that you must keep the face bathed in antibacterial medications.
In the morning apply a mixture of tretinoin and topical clindamycin. I have recently learned about a new product called Ziana
http://www.ziana.com/ . It is a premixed version of what I just described. My insurance doesn't cover it so I make my own by simply mixing a blop of topical clindamycin and a pea sized amount of topical tretinoin in my palm and apply it liberally to my pimply face. (past tense of course as I am now clear). Wear the Ziana mixture for three hours. Then wash it off with hibiclens or dial anti-bacterial soap. These cleansers decimate acne causing bacteria which is the goal at all times. Then apply the miracle drug benzaclin aka Acanya. If your insurance wont cover even the generic benzaclin that I use simply buy a tube of 5% benzoyl peroxide gel and mix it in your palm with 1% topical clindamycin phosphate. It will be quite drying at first. Almost intolerably drying but stick with it and dont and any oil to the skin and don't over moisturize. All moisturizer must be "oil free" like Neutrogena oil-free moisturizer with spf 15-35

http://www.neutrogena.com/product/oil-free+moisture+broad+spectrum+spf+35.do?sortby=ourPicks

At bedtime, choose which mixture to apply overnight. I choose benzaclin because it kills so much bacteria. Tretinoin unclogs pores though and when you mix it with topical clindamycin.

* This post does not include medical advice. I am not a doctor or a nurse. I have no medical training. This regimen is only for the truly desperate who want clear skin. All I can say is it worked for me!

Do More...

I am standing on a soap box as I write this blog entry. Having cured myself of cystic nodular acne I have wisdom to impart. First of all, finding a good dermatologist is crucial. Most doctors will prescribe whatever you suggest so do your homework. Ask friends and use this site-but you already know that. Second, take antibiotics. The gain outweighs possible side effects. Third, complain. If you start a regimen and still breakout, make a follow up appointment with your derm. You will be surprised at how likely your derm will be to increase the dose of your antibiotics or add some stronger acne fighters to your arsenal. For myself, I take Amoxicillin, cephalexin, Retin-A, Benzaclin and stand alone clindagel. Be consistent and never stop a medication once your skin is clear. This is a lifelong battle. To remain clear you must remain consistent. PEACE!

Continued Success With Dangerous Regimen

http://microbewiki.kenyon.edu/index.php/Propionibacterium

-explains why antibiotics work against an infestation of propionibacterium (aka acne causing bacteria) (comments are courtesy of "microbewiki) *wink

This may be my last post about my "before" and "after" transformation. The before photos were taken two and half years ago, before I started my regimen. Hopefully you can see in the before photos how much acne I had. I had several flaming red cysts on my cheeks, both the right and left sides. My face felt bumpy and the sores (pimples) were extremely painful. I did not pick at my skin very much because it was just to gross to look at. Every once in a while though I would drain a pustule if it was leaking. (feel free to get up now and go vomit but make sure you come back to read the rest of this blog entry).Anyways, I finally got health insurance in 2010 and went to see my old dermatologist. She prescribed me Amoxicillin and retin-a right away. She later added benzaclin and free standing clindagel (topical clindamycin antibiotic). I also started washing my face dial antibacterial hand soap. Triclosan is the active ingredient and it is proven to kill P. acnes, the bacteria that causes acne. So now...my journey to clear skin began. The first thing I did was modify my dermatologist's instructions. I do not recommend anyone taking accutane do this in any shape form or whatsoever. Hmm...I continue...I was prescribed 2 capsules of 500mg strength Amoxil each day. I quickly ascertained that if I took more than two pills in a 24hr period, My skin would be a lot clearer. Finally, driven by the results I was seeing, I carefully upped my dose to six pills a day. Telling no one. After playing around with the dose I settled on taking an average of 14 pills per day for two weeks. Then I would switch to Cephalexin 14 times a day for the remainder of the month. I also began paying cash for my antibiotics since my health insurance would only fill my prescriptions once a month. On average, a 30 day supply ran me between $8.00-$14.00. I would fill an average of 3 refills each month instead of one. btw I am still doing this. This morning I have already taken 6 and its only 8:30AM. My total for any given day can be as high as 14,000mg of antibiotic. 1,500mg is the recommended dose.

Pros-
The pros of following this type of renegade regimen is that it works. I have no acne now. I may get one tiny zit every two months. Barely noticeable and heals away quickly.

Cons-
There is a risk of serious side effects like ulcerative colitis aka bloody diarrhea which has proven fatal in some cases. (I read that on the insert for the antibiotics. To avoid this I drink kefir or eat yogurt everyday to prevent the diarrheal problem.

After two years of treatment with Amoxil etc...
After two years of treatment with Amoxil etc...
After two years of treatment with Amoxil etc...
Before any treatments
Before any treatments
My cat Haley..she is a loving and funny "American Tuxedo Short Hair". I take her to the groomers once a month for a nail trim. I also have a home visit with a veterinarian once a year for an exam and necessary immunizations.

In conclusion, there are ways to cure cystic acne but they are risky, just like accutane can be risky. The end!antiseptic skin cleanser great for bacne
Antibacterial soap-kills acne causing bacteria
Tretinoin= generic Retin-A
generic for benzaclin (Benzoyl peroxide+clindamycin)
Antibiotic 500mg pills, prescribed for 3x per day
topical clindamycin antibiotic gel 1% strength

I am still getting used to my acne free face! I have been on amoxicillin aka amoxil (hence the name "Amoxilworx") and topical clindamycin, plus tretinoin 0.1% and benzoyl peroxide 5%. I posted my before pictures to show how much my complexion has improved. Some of you may notice that I am posting (again) the same before photos and there is a very good reason why I do that; I don't have any other good "before" photos, so I am stuck using the same ones. Hopefully they demonstrate the severity of the infection I had. I call it an infection because antibiotics stopped the cycle of acne completely. I just don't breakout anymore, ever! Good luck to everyone who is still struggling to heal their faces (necks, chests and backs also). In all fairness, the way I did it was a bit unorthodox. I took way more Keflex and Amoxil than prescribed. I still do. But it worked so there it is. The plain truth. Live with it and decide, do you want clear skin?; if you do, then do whatever it takes to get there.

After two 1/2 years of treatments
After
After
Before clindamycin
before

So I use it on my face also mixed with dial antibacterial with active ingredient tri-closan.

Before dermatological care
Before dermatological care

I have benzaclin topical gel on my face.
I have benzaclin topical gel on my face.
I have benzaclin topical gel on my face.

Benzaclin is another must have treatment.
Antibiotics Work To Prevent Acne Pimples

I have noticed that almost everyone on this blog is afraid to or refuses to take anti-biotics. Under the care of a competent dermatologist, a course of antibiotics can provide relief for those with acne pimples and indeed cysts. A lot of people have said that antibiotics damage your balance of bacteria in your body. There is relatively simple remedy to that and its called "probiotics". Probiotics reintroduce the healthy bacteria we need for digestion and other processes (I have a law degree not a medical degree lol). Kefir (liquid yogurt), yogurt or Kombucha juice (found at natural foods stores and coops) or simply, probiotic pills. I choose to drink Kefir each morning right after I take my first dose of antibiotic. I wish you all the best and hope you can feel smooth skin under your fingertips ASAP.

Remission Achieved

I have been clear for almost three months and I have been off antibiotics for two weeks with no breakouts. I still use all my topical meds like: clindamycin, tretinoin and benzoyl peroxide. I also started washing my face with hibiclens. Hibiclens is a powerful antiseptic soap. As long as you can keep it out of your eyes its safe for washing your face. Hibiclens kills Propionibacterium acnes (the bacteria responsible for acne) on contact and continues to kill the bacteria for up to six hours after washing your face with the hibiclens. Hibiclens also cured my chest acne and bacne within one week of use in the shower each day. Tommorrow I go back on Amoxil just to be on the safe side. I consider my acne to be in remission, if you can call it that. Remission is a term usually reserved for descriptions of various stages of cancer recovery. But I think it fits in this case considering how viciously the acne bacteria attacked my skin for years and then stopped. I know many of you are weary of antibiotics but I can assure you that acne is worse. Especially big noduley pustules and nobs that are so painful to the touch and have weird sickening colored discharge, like yellow and bright green.

Cystic Acne Cured For Now

I am still using my comprehensive regimen. I don't want to jinx myself but I think I permanently cured myself of cystic acne because I have been off antibiotics for 7 days and no breakouts have happened. Before, like 6 months ago, if I stopped my anti-biotic for even two days, I would break out really severely. For those of you that are noobs, I have been overdosing on amoxicillin for almost two years now. At my height I was up to 6,000mg a day. I have been doing it for so long I think the bacteria just gave up. I killed off a persistent and awful infection and I wonder now if it was staph or just P. acnes. Whatever it was its gone now and I could'nt be happier. Good luck to you all. I have seen a lot of awesome regimens out there in the blogosphere. I think a comprehensive regimen is the best one. Recently I have seen regimens in the blogs that include a retinoid, an antibiotic, a topical antibiotic and an oral antibiotic along with benzoyl peroxide. Its great and its nice to see how it improves over time. I have seen massive improvements in my skin and its good to see others having success as well. Also the accutane users are always inspiring. I know accutane can be painful with a myriad of side effects. My dermatologist ruled out giving me accutane because I have so much success with traditional acne cures. I hope everyone that is in the midst of a severe breakout can hold on and keep the faith. Use the medications available to you and it will improve. One new thing I have added to my regimen is sure to create controversy, hibiclens. It is an antiseptic skin cleansers used by surgeons and hospitals to clean hands and disinfect wounds. It kills a wide spectrum of bateria on the skin. Since I started using it, I have not seen any new breakouts but my skin is a bit dry. My whole take on treating acne has been to focus on killing P. acnes bacteria. I use antibacterial soap and tons of anti-biotics and guess what? Clear skin, thats what! Luck to all y'all!

Hello fellow bloggers,

Notthing new to report. I have only one cyst under my nose so I called my dermatologist and asked her to increase my dosage of keflex. I haven't heard back from her yet. Bad news, my favorite acne fighter is not covered under the formulary for my insurance so I can't use benzaclin anymore. I have found a clever way to keep getting the clearing effect benzaclin had. I apply topical clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide at the same time. Same difference. I'm out. Stay up!

Try My Style

I have had severe cystic acne for over 20 years. I am 38 years old and the breakouts began right around my 15th birthday. Within the last two years I have seen a complete reversal. I never breakout anymore. Why? Because I am now under the care of a brilliant female dermatologist. I mention the fact that she is female to remind everyone that women are capable of professional brilliance. My regimen is as follows: Take 1,500mg of Amoxil (and it has to be amoxil, other antibiotics do nothing), use topical antibiotic clindamycin, use a mixture of clindamycin gel and benzoyl peroxide cream called "Benzaclin" (I use the generic version twice daily). And lastly, Retin-A (tretinoin is the generic version). For moisturizer I use strictly oil free cetaphil or nuetrogena http://www.cetaphil....sturizer-spf30/ or http://www.neutrogen...ture spf 35.do. Basically our whole concept is to wage an all out war on bacteria. If bacteria is left untreated it spreads and gets control of more tissue..ie more pimples emerge. The best way to combat acne is to attack it on all fronts. The Retin-A prevents pores from clogging with dead skin and sebum (oil). Benzoyl peroxide adds oxygen to the pores. Bacteria can't thrive in an oxygen rich environment. Benzoyl peroxide also dries up sebum (oil produced by pores). Sebum is basically food for the bacteria that cause acne. The topical antibiotic Clindamycin works by preventing the bacteria from replicating itself. It shuts down acne's reproductive system. Benzaclin has both anti-biotic and benzoyl peroxide in one tub. If you buy benzaclin you will notice that it is made and mixed up fresh by your pharmacist or a member of the pharmacy team. A label is then placed on the tub giving the benzaclin a three months expiration date. It is also best to store your benzaclin in the fridge. Acne hates benzaclin. When you first start using benzaclin you will have very dry skin. It is important never to use anything but an oil-free moisturizer on your face.Since you will be using Retin-A, the Retin-A should take care of peeling skin. It rinses right off when you wash your face. Make-up wont work with this regimen. However, if you are desperate to "cover up" I recommend http://www.neutrogen...sortby=ourPicks or http://www.neutrogen...sortby=ourPicks

The topical clindamycin is in a water based gel form and should be used after washing off the benzaclin. Its anti-biotic and moisturizing properties are gentle on your healing skin but tough on acne causing bacteria. Never give up!

Sad news..I just ran out of one my most powerful acne fighters, Benzaclin. It has the anti-acne power of benzoyl peroxide the bacteria killing power of anti-biotic combined, through a freshly mixed batch at the pharmacy. I use it twice a day but next month I'll have to use smaller amounts. I am coping by using more of my lone topical anti-biotic topical clindamycin. I am now using tretinoin aka Retin-A, Keflex antibiotic 2,000mg a day. Dial anti-bacterial soap with 0.46% antibacterial Triclosan. I just got back from the store (time elapsed 35 minutes). I bought a store brand 10% benzoyl peroxide product to replace my benzaclin. Based on my health insurance I can refill my benzaclin in 7 or 8 days. I am still taking tons of anti-biotics and still having clear skin. It is very rare that I get a pimple while using my regimen. I wish you all good luck especially those that are taking accutane and other extreme cures. My new adventure is that I am mixing, in the palm of my hand, anti-biotic gel and benzoyl peroxide and then applying it to my entire face. It burns a little from the benzoyl peroxide but I hope it works as well as my benzaclin does. I AM SURE IT WILL!!! wishing you clear skin and signing out...

<----before I began my regimen in earnest!
<-----before I began my regimen in earnest!

<---------two years into my regimen!

Painful Face/new Career

Since I started my synthetic epi-duo my face just hurts. When I wash my face it is painful to the touch. I don't know if I got too much sun exposure today or just too much medication on my face. I read the insert for Acanya and realized I use way too much benzaclin (the two products are similar enough for me to use the Acanya directions for the benzaclin). My pores seem enlarged. I almost wish I could take longer breaks from my medications. However, when I do take breaks from my medications I breakout. I hate to breakout anymore. I am not used to the sores all over my face. I am used to a smooth albeit beet red, complexion. Any tips on how to reduce redness are welcome. I feel like a tomato face.

On other notes, I just took a test for a new job. A new career for me really. I used to be a practising attorney; mostly chapter 7 bankruptcies. Now I am going to be a tax collector.
lol. I'll be writing letters and threatening garnishments, but hey, it's a job and it pays decent $34,000.00/yr and it has benefits for me and my daughter. I can rent a small two bedroom flat, lease a cheap foreign car and live pretty decent. My law business never took off because I did not have enough money to advertise properly. I have swallowed my pride in this economy and plan to take the first decent offer. My low rate is $15.00/hr and my high rate is $32.00/hr. The tax collector job is $16.41/hr to start. This economy is so uncertain that I plan to stay at one job and advance through the hierarchy and then retire. I am not getting any younger and I can't take as many risks as I did when I was young.

Homemade Epi-Duo

The biggest change to my regimen is that I now apply Retin-A and benzoyl peroxide (and clindamycin) at the same time in an attempt to mimic the effects of epi-duo http://www.epiduo.co...epiduo_gel.aspx So far I have noticed an increased redness to my face. The redness I just live with because I don't have any pimples nowadays. I figure that with all the medications I use there are bound to be some unwanted side-effects. But nothing is worse than having pimples and white pus filled bumps all over my chin and cheeks. So I have a red face.

as for my anti-biotic usage: I am currently taking only 1,500-3,000 mg a day of amoxicillin. My insurance will pay for a new bottle when I have nine days left of my medication. That means I have 27 extra pills I can take over the course of the month. I ususally take between 3 and 6 pills a day until I run low, then I switch back to three a day and refill the next prescription.

I know if you follow my regimen, you will have clear skin but it can take up two years. You need a strong anti-biotic like Keflex or amoxil, a topical retinoid like retin-a or differin gel and topical antibiotics like topical clindamycin and benzaclin (which
contains clindamycin.) I don't recommend Benzamycin; which is benzoyl peroxide mixed with erythryomycin because it doesn't work as well as Clindagel. Why benzaclin? http://acanya.pskw.com/Page/Default.aspx It is one of the toughest acne fighters you can be prescribed. It has the awesome power of benzoyl peroxide combined with fresh anti-biotic clindamycin. Why the two sources of clindamycin? If your skin gets too dry, which it easily can with benzaclin, on your dryest days you can use the calming and moisturizing clindamycin gel. You have no idea how well topical clindamycin works at killing off bacteria in your pores. It basically gets totally rid of whiteheads. The cysts can only be handled by the Keflex or Amoxil; and there is no nausea associated with either Keflex or Amoxil. They are totally safe and totally wipe out pimples. If you are worried about bacterial/fungal imbalances then drink a pro-biotic like Kefir every day.

I posted pics from this morning where I have the mimicked epi-duo on my face. Hopefully you can see the redness. But I swear the results are worth it and I use a really good cetaphil oil control moisturizer.

Signing out and wishing you clear skin!
