accutane back on accutane acne moderate acne redness dry skin red marks
So, if you are just starting to read my blog, I'm back on Accutane because I only did 3 months at 40mg before.

Previous 3 Month Experience with Accutane
I was on Accutane from the end of July to October (about 3 months) when I had an issue with a failed birth control method. My derm wanted me to go off Accutane for a couple of months until we knew that I would not have issues with taking it again. I was disappointed at the time, because it truly was an accident, but I completely understood her rules and logic.

After 3 Months of Accutane the Last Time...
So after 3 months of Accutane the last time, my skin got a lot better, but was still not clear enough. I would have hormonal acne still (while still on birth control) and would get at least one under-ground zit that would usually go away if I didn't mess with it within a few days or a week. I would also get 3-4 pimples that were pretty stubborn. However, I did have some weeks with no acne whatsoever, just clogged pores to be honest. So, overall I think the bit of Accutane that I took the previous 3 months helped, but I don't think it was enough or a high enough dose to get rid of my acne completely.

I've Been Back on Accutane for 2 Weeks
I am now back on Accutane and have been for exactly 2 weeks (I started at the beginning of March). For 2 weeks, I have been taking one 30mg pill per day. The first days of taking it, I noticed that my skin and hair became EXTREMELY oily. I believe that my skin was purging excess oil the first week or so. After that, I had a couple of breakouts (which might have just coincided with my period) or could be linked to purging oil from the skin.

Dry Skin & Lips
Then, after the first week, my skin became pretty dry and my lips became super chapped. The other day, a very, very thin layer of my skin on my lips was shedding off and I had to gently take a warm washcloth and wipe it off. It easily wiped off and then I slathered my lips with Carmex healing lip balm and Aquaphor.

Stupid Mistake
I made the idiotic mistake of continuing to use a fine Olay pore scrub on my nose and around my nose multiple times within a few days. The results were awful--my skin became INSANELY dry, sensitive, and even broke? It was very odd. I stopped using the scrub and have instead, switched to gently scrubbing off dry/dead skin with a warm washcloth and water. If desperate, I take a pinprick amount of the pore scrub and GENTLY GENTLY GENTLY massage it in a small area and then rinse off and follow with a ton of moisturizer.

Red Marks that Are Healing...Stubbornly
Right now, I'm not very happy with how my skin is because there are about 5 small red marks around my face (from small pimples/ clogged pores that I messed with) that are stubborn to heal. I've been washing my face morning and night with a gentle CeraVe Moisturizing Cleanser and then applying the CeraVe Moisturizer. Tonight I tried putting an Olay moisturizer on the spots as well as Jojoba oil. I'm hoping the combination of moisturzer and all-natural (non-clogging) oil will speed up the healing process.

Note to Self
I have to remember--DO NOT PICK. (So much easier said than done). But every time I want to, I just need to tell myself no and remind myself how sucky these marks are.

Later this Week (30mg on ODD days AND 60mg on EVEN days)
My derm wants me to bump up to 30mg EVERY DAY and 60 mg EVERY OTHER DAY later this week, so I will keep you updated on how that goes. The idea behind that is that she couldn't get 40mg pills for me, so by taking 30mg on odd days and then 60 mg only on even days, it will balance out to about 40mg every day within my body.

I'd love to hear comments, support, and advice! Let me know if you have questions. Excited to be back and have this support system and support others http:////dn4iqhjvtt3...fault/smile.png
