Day 1

Today is my first day posting pictures. My history with acne is super extensive! I finally got the courage and OK by my doctor to start the course of Accutane, which I am both excited and nervous about. I have suffered from acne since age 13 when I started the Pro-Activ regimine. It worked wonders for 2 years, then I broke out with mild-moderate acne. It was at age 16 that I saw the dermatologist. He prescribed me with a benzol peroxide wash, clindamyacin lotion, duac cream, and solodyn pills. That regimen worked well until my freshman year in college when my face broke out in horribly painful cysts and nodules. I was then switched to Zania, which I quit after 4 weeks of no improvement. My derm put me on .04% retin-A, clindamyacin lotion, duac cream, and cetaphil wash. He also recommended that I go on birth control-Trisprintec. I was also getting microdermabrasion treatments every month for about 6 months. That cleared my skin up quick! I had clear skin for about 3 years using that regimen. About 4 months ago, my skin started to break out with about 2 cysts. They would heal and my face would clear, then about 3-4 would appear. My face progressively got worse and worse. Cysts, nodules, white heads, black heads, you name it, came and never left. I saw another dermatologist and he put me on differin which did nothing but dry my skin terribly and make it red. He also put me on minocycline. I used that for about 2 months. I had finally had enough with trial and error!! I went to the derm yesterday in tears with hopes of getting a prescription of Accutane. This dermatologist was so uplifting and showed that she truly felt my pain and wanted my skin to succeed! She encouraged me to begin the process (believe me, I didn't need the persuasion..I am READY to beat this battle). I have to wait a month to prove I'm not pregnant and then I can begin the process. Currently, I am on 100mg of doxycline twice a day, Retin A .1% every 2-3 days, clindamyacin 1% lotion and benzol peroxide 5% lotion with Olay moisturizer with SPF during the day, and Cetaphil wash twice a day. Sooo excited and anxious to start my journey back to clear skin:) xoxo Sara

Goodluck!! Its almost sickening to read stories like this that Derms put people through roller coasters when they have the power to prescribe something that could work. It really does sicken me... We are NOT experimental mice, we are human beings, we are real people with feelings and lives. I'm glad however you are done with all that rubbish! =)
Hope you are happy.

Thank you! And that is all so true. I feel like it's trial and error with acne. I've gone to derm after derm after derm and finally found one that agreed to give me Accutane. I'm so excited and happy to get this all done and over with!! Crossing my fingers it treats me well:)
I just wanted to comment on your story because man girl, can I relate! I had horrible acne last year...the year of my engagement, and yes, on my wedding. Thankfully my skin calmed down a good amount the weekend of my wedding so make up did a good job of hiding it. But still! Acne SUCKS SO BAD! I had to go on anti depressants for 4 months because I fell into clinical depression as a result of my acne getting worse and worse, no matter what I tried.

BUT, there is HOPE! I can tell you that as I write this I do not have ONE PIMPLE on my face! Everyones cure is different, but mine was the acne.org regimen. It took 3 months to see my skin really clear, and 4-5 months to have no pimples at all. But it worked. I truly believed NOTHING would work. I tried everything from the dermatologist (except for acuttane) birth control, everything.

But anyway...I really hope that your current regimen, and accutane works for you.

I went for having 10-15 zits at a time to 0! so it's possible! Thank GOD!

Good luck girl!
Oh and Dan's AHA works wonders on scars and hyperpigmentation. But makes sure you wait until your skin fully adjusts to BP or any other strong acne creams before you introduce it because it dries you out and irritates your skin if you arent use to your other products first.

Acne is SUCH a blow to one's confidence, self-esteem, happiness, and social life!! AHH it's too much to handle sometimes. I just saw my therapist this week for the first time in about 2 years. I have struggled a lot with depression/anxiety/OCD and I was doing so well until about 4 months ago when my skin broke out terribly..that put all my mental issues into overdrive! So I can most definitely relate with the depressive state.

I'm really happy that your skin was under control the weekend of your wedding. Acne makes me (and I think most it's sufferers) never feel absolutely beautiful. And on your wedding day, you should most definitely feel absolutely beautiful! Thank the heavens for make-up that can help conceal some of the left-over redness and scars from past blemishes.

And that that is incredible that Dan's regimen is working so well for you!! I know that it has helped hundreds of people! You are one less person suffering from this horrific condition!! I am at my wits end with the trial and error of medications and treatments, I'm ready for the so-called "magic" pill-accutane.

Anyway, thank you for sharing your story with me:) It's always good to hear success stories..gives me hope! Best of luck with the continuation of your regimen! Show those pimples who's boss!!
