Hi!
I have to start out by saying I don't have sever acne, and if you are like me, you might not either.
Acne vs. blemish prone skin is a funny thing because every single product for so-called 'bad' skin at the drug store says 'for acne prone skin' or 'acne treatment', etc. So really, all my life I thought I had acne, when I really have no idea what true acne was (or is). The truth is, I don't have acne at all, but I do breakout badly. I never had a pimple my whole High School life, up until the end of grade 12 - then all of a sudden I was breaking out like crazy, and I had NO idea what was going on. Over the past 5 years I've been searching for something that works, and I'm still on that journey. I can tell you that I am getting closer! The better I understand my face, the closer I've come to completely clear skin. You've probably read most people say 'I had tried everyyyyything!' right before they find the thing that works for them - that's because, it's honestly all about trial and error. Benzoyl peroxide vs salicylic acid, gels, creams, oil-free moisturizers....everything is about finding what doesn't work, and moving forward.
As far as my skin is concerned, I break out a lot on my jaw and chin, plus forehead. After getting a bit frustrated about a week ago, I decided to go on Sephora.com and find the highest rated products for blemish prone skin, then buy them. This is how I discovered the Peter Thomas Roth line. These products have the highest rating (by a long shot), and after reading what felt like hundreds of glowing reviews I decided to pop into the closest Sephora and give it a try. The first thing I discovered is that it was not a cheep product line to buy from...but after speaking to one of the women in the skin care section and chatting about the high quality of this line, I just decided 'why not'.
For anyone looking to follow my journey with me, I am using the following products: Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel (I'm only 21 but, she recommended this cleanser), Glycolic Acid 10% Toning Complex, Glycolic Acid 10% Hydrating Gel and the Oil-Free Moisturizer.
I've been using them for about a week, and I can tell you that I haven't got any new blemishes, and per-existing ones are slowly going away. It makes my skin feel so great, and it looks better than it has in a while. I'm excited to keep using it, and I'll post my progress as time goes on. Since this product line isn't wallet-friendly, I'd recommend the Glycolic Acid 10% Hydrating Gel and the Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel above all the rest. I've been substituting in my Murad moisturizer, for the Oil-Free one, because it's much more affordable so I'm curious to see if it works with the rest of the product line.
I'll keep you all posted! Something to think about: I've been told recently that using acne treatments on your skin when you don't have acne, can actually make everything worse. So if you are anything like me, try switching to something less intense and you'll find it helps your skin out a lot.
Cheers,
C
