My dermatologist is really skilled. She has kept my breakouts at bay for over a year. However, I take high doses of Amoxicillin every day (I also take Keflex, but I'll explain that later). My dermatologist recently put me on spironolactone. Yesterday I found out that my doctor wanted me to get my blood potassium levels checked. I went into the clinic and got my blood drawn. The killer is that my dermatologist wants to take me off of Amoxicillin and increase my spironolactone to 100mg a day. I now take only 50mg a day. I am very afraid that if I go off my anti-biotic that my cystic acne will return. My skin is smooth and clear with anti-biotics. If anyone has been cured by spironolactone please let me know.
Right now I have three months worth anti-biotic prescriptions to refill so I have some time to convince my dermatologist not to wean me off the anti-biotic. I hate acne. I need help!
6:30AM-10:00AM
On a separate note, I want to make it clear that I cured my cystic acne by constantly treating my face. On a typical morning, I start with an anti-bacterial soap like Dial foaming hand wash (I know, but it works). I pat my face dry with a clean hand towel. Then I apply a mixture of topical clindamycin 1% gel and topical tretinoin 0.1% cream. I massage the cream and gel into my face and behind my ears (I recently found some breakouts hiding back there). Once the creams are massaged in I wait like 3.5hrs.
{6:30 AM take 1,000mg of Keflex antibiotic pills}
{11:00 AM take 50mg of Spironolactone}
10:00AM-2:30PM : http://www.benzaclin.com/
I wash my face again with foaming anti-bacterial Dial hand soap (I know). Then I pat dry with a new soft clean towel. I then walk to the refrigerator, open it up and take out my next weapon, Benzaclin. Benzaclin is a fresh mixture of 5%strength benzoyl peroxide and 1%strength Clindamycin. They mix it up fresh for you at the pharmacy. After applying the benzaclin I wait for it to work it's magic. My skin will be dry. I'll tell you how I handle that on the next step.I use a generic version pictured below.
{12:30PM take another 1,000mg of Keflex}
2:30PM-4:40PM
I wash my face again with the same anti-bacterial handsoap. Then,to reduce dryness, redness and irritation from the Benzaclin, I use topical clindamycin gel 1% strength. The topical clindamycin is in a gel base consisting of:allantoin, carbomer 934, methylparaben, polyethylene glycol400, propylene glycol, sodium hydroxide, and purified water and it moisturizes my skin and fights bacteria at the same time.
4:40PM-7:20PM
I wash my face again with dial anti-bacterial hand soap. Pat my face dry with a brand new clean towel. This is the killer step. I apply Benzaclin again. The prescription says apply twice daily as does the topical clindamycin. So anyways, I reapply Benzaclin making sure to get it into the cracks around my nose (oil drips from there, I have SUPER oily skin)
7:20PM-6:00AM
OVERNIGHT STEPS
I wash my face with antibacterial soap. Rub my fingertips in circles as I wash to ensure exfoliation. I then apply a generous amount of topical clindamycin, and then I hit the pillow and sleep!!!
