Isotretinoin (80 Mg) Week Two

Posted by TheSavyBanana, 25 April 2012 · 479 views

Hello everyone!

So today is the end of week two on Accutane (Clavaris), and I've got to say, so far so good. I have had a few "side effects," so I'll get to that first. My face no longer feels burnt, and my IB is clearing up, but my face is EXTREMELY red! Every pimple, red mark, and pore is more pronounced than ever, but I can deal. I've also been experiencing some blurry vision, sensitivity to light, muscle pain, and back aches, but this is all very mild. The eczema I sometimes get on my neck and on the insides of my elbows has flared up, but I've been dealing with that with some strong hydrocortizone. Oh, and of course, the dreaded dry lips. They look like I've been abusing them. Poor lips. :( I just need to put more Aquaphor on them! I've also noticed that little cuts on my arms are taking a long time to heal and are scarring a bit. I got mild sunburns, and I mean very mild, on my arms last Friday and the skin on my arms is peeling off in sheets, which seems very weird to me. I've also been quite tired, and it's been harder to exercise, especially for long periods of time, but it's nothing I can't deal with with a nice long nap. I actually had one today. :)

On the first day of my second week I had a bit of a startling and kind of embarrassing side effect, and I'm sure it's from the Accutane. If you are not a girl, or you just don't want to hear about my personal anatomy, I would skip this paragraph. So, when I got in the shower, I noticed that it was very red down there and it was extremely swollen! It was quite scary, as there was nothing that looked normal. I was also very itchy, so I think it was just due to a lot of irritation, probably from shaving. However, by the morning everything had gone back to normal. Hope that never happens again!

On the plus side, no more oily skin! I stay completely dry the entire day, which is sooo nice! I no longer have the stress of having to blot my skin and fix my makeup every two hours. I've had the freedom to do things I never would have before I started taking Accutane, which takes a whole load off my shoulders, and I can go out whenever I want, and stay out however long I want, without having to even think about my skin. It's really been such a tremendous and positive change that it even makes me a little emotional thinking about it. Today I even noticed that my pores looked a bit smaller, but that might just be my optimism talking. :)

Anyways, I'm feeling pretty good, so all I can hope for is that I my skin will continue to get better!

What's IB?
Initial breakout.
