I just started my 3rd month of accutane and I have developed a rash on my arms and the front/back of my neck. The bumps are very small but many, and not really red but still itchy. I am currently on 60 mg a day, but I've been on this dosage for over a month so I don't know why I would just now be experiencing such a side effect. Has anyone had a similar experience? It is so hard to resist the urge to scratch. Is this something to be concerned about, and what can I do to ease the itch? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

So I just started accutane (claravis) on May 5th. It's only been 5 days, so I haven't been expecting much to happen. This morning when I woke up I could start to feel my lips getting dry, but nothing too terrible. I've been using Aquaphor for the past few weeks to prepare for the dryness. My face also felt really oily when I woke up today, and I've heard that the drug makes your skin pretty slick before it starts to get dry. But I also live in a hot climate, so it could just be the weather. Either way, so far so good. My face was actually pretty clear when I started (relative to the broken out mess that it had been for the past few months). So I'm hoping it stays that way and just starts to get better with time. For anyone reading this who had mild to moderate acne, how long did the course last? My derm did not indicate how many months I would be on it. I'm assuming that's because we need to wait and see how I respond. But I'm just curious. Anyway, good luck to the rest of the accutane users out there!

My skin type is definitely oily, however lately I've been dealing with stubborn flakiness I've gotten as a result of using 10% BP (clearasil). The BP has actually helped clear up my acne a bit, but I have stopped using it as I cannot handle the flakiness of my skin. Any make-up I put on just flakes off. I will be starting Accutane this week as well, so I am anticipating my skin becoming even drier. I am currently using Cetaphil moisturizing cream on the dry, flaky areas which works OK, but does not take care of the flakes the way I would like it to. I also use Revlon Color Stay for normal/dry skin on the flaky areas and Almay clear complexion makeup on the rest of my oily face. My makeup never really seems to hold up, however.
For those who have dealt with similar issues before, what was your skincare regimen like? Moisturizer/primer/foundation/specialty products? I just want to find something that stays on! At this point it either slicks off in the oily spots or flakes off in the dry spots. Like I said, I will be starting Accutane soon so I'm anticipating needing products for dry skin. Any suggestions? Cheap, expensive, it doesn't matter. I just want something that makes me feel good about my face

Hey everyone,
I will be starting Accutane in about 3 weeks and I'm just looking for some feedback on the experiences anyone has had. I am a 23 year old female who has been dealing with mild to moderate acne since age 15. I've been on tetracycline, monocycline, and birth control while also using topicals such as retin A, benzoyl peroxide, saliylic acid, clindamycin, etc. While my acne has never been extremely severe, I do get frequent breakouts that are serious enough to me to really affect my self-esteem. To date, nothing has worked to the extent that I want it to. The breakouts always seem to come back. So if anyone out there who has been on or is currently taking Accutane has any advice/precautions/words of encouragement they'd like to share...I would love to hear them! I am also wondering what your regimen is/was while on the drug, i.e. face lotion/makeup used. Though my skin type is oily, I know once I'm on it I'll likely have to switch to products made for dry skin types. I also have a specific question in mind for those who have been on Retin A and experienced the initial breakout with that (mine was horrific). Did you get an IB while on tane, and if so...was it as bad as the Retin A? I am curious since both treatments are derivatives of Vitamin A if they will have the same affect on my skin. I sure hope not. Thanks in advance for any helpful tips!! |
