I am 50 yrs old. Got on BCP 4 years (mid 40's) ago for PMS, but also for acne. Had already tried Acutane without success. Added Spironolactone a few years ago for hair loss but knew it might help the acne, which it did. Got the dose up to 150mg a day. My skin looked the best it had in years but my hair became very thin and fell out even more. Decided to get off both meds in early Jan because I'm tired of taking them, and, mainly, to see if I can get my hair to grow back. Had to resume estrogen after a few weeks to control migraines (it works for me) but my face broke out the worst it's been in many years. I attribute it it not taking Spironolactone. My doc says all my symptoms point to an abundance of testosterone. I decided to drop down to 50mg a day of Spironolactone for a month to see if it helps clear the acne. Maybe a lower dose won't make my hair thin/fall out. I'm at a loss of other possibilities. 50 years old is too old for acne. Any suggestions?
