So a little backround and i've posted here before and in other sections. But i'm 23 and have had acne since the age of 13. I did accutane at 16 and it helped so i just used proactive while in college. When i ended school about 2 years ago i broke out again and as you can see from my sig i'm on meds/topicals. Nothing has helped, even the 3 photodynamic therapy treatments that i did in december and january.
I am on yaz and i really think this is hormonal. Week 1 and part of Week 2 my skin is clear and the last 2 weeks especially week 3 its a mess. So on that note can anyone give me info on spiro (i have read past posts) would this be something that could work for me? My acne is mostly on my chin and some on my cheeks (ughhh). I'll be going to my derm on the 30th and need to ask for spiro or accutane, but i would like to give this a try before doing accutane again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

So i figured i would document my PDT treatment so if people are thinking about doing it they have an idea. I'm 23 and have had acne since the age of 13. I've been on everything, including accutane at 16 years old and before i tried another course of that i figured i would give photodynamic therapy a shot. I got my first light treatment 8 days ago and to be honest don't see much change. I had the levulan on for 45 minutes and the light for 8 minutes. I was a tomato when done, but thats because my skin is so fair. I really only have acne on my chin, just to give you all an idea. I mean i did break out the past couple of days but who knows, maybe after doing a 2nd and 3rd treatment it'll help, if not i'll resort to accutane which i don't want to do at all. So i'll keep you all updated on this and let you know how it goes.

So I'm on yaz right now almost finished with my second pack and i've not seen any change. If at all my acne has gotten worse. I've been getting acne on my cheeks when it used to just be my chin. Has anyone had any success with yaz, or if not does anyone have any suggestions of a new one to try. This whole acne thing is making me depressed and i don't know how much more i can take. thanks

Hi,
This is my first post here so bare with me. I started breaking out when I was 12 and started seeing a derm then. I was on everyone medication possible taz, retin-a so many that i can't remember and finally by my jr year of high school she put me on accutane. Honestly I don't remember much of what happened when I was on it, but my mom said it cleared my skin up. I went off to college still using topicals and stuff (because i was still breaking out) but didn't see anything getting better, so decided to stop seeing the derm and try proactiv. Like most people say at first it helped but after a while I just became immune to it that it didn't work. So I started seeing a new derm about a month ago who prescribed duac for the morning and tazorac at night along with minocycline. I use neutrogena moisturizer on top of the duac in the morning then apply neutrogena makeup (all recommended by the derm). At first my face was peeling so bad but now it's so much better! I only keep the taz on for 5min then wash off. I have seen improvement but have scars/red marks. Anways I just found this site a bit ago and really enjoy that there are people out there that understand. I'll post pics when i get a chance. Along with progress on how everything goes. Also I'm going to start on BC can anyone recommend one that they think is the best for acne purposes? thanks!!!! -Alyssa |
