I'm currently unemployed and have started to wonder if my difficulty in finding a job isn't simply due to the economy, but perhaps also due to my acne. Statistics (apparently) show that people suffering with acne are less likely to be hired by an employer.

Has anyone heard of these stats? To what extent/ capacity do you think they are true?

Hey guys! Just thought I would post something to introduce myself. I'm really excited to start being a part of this online community! biggrin.gif

So a year ago, I was a senior in college and had an almost-perfect skin complexion. I exercised 6 days a week, ate very healthily, and took care of myself, but somehow by October of my senior year I started developing severe acne. I tried everything I could get my hands on-- Proactive, Murad, Neutrogena, Clearasil, etc. but everything seemed to exacerbate the problem. It wasn't until January that I decided to see a Dermatologist. I was diagnosed with acne vulgaris and was proscribed oral antibiotics, Retin-A, and a generic benzoyl peroxide face wash, but it only seemed to have a minor effect on my acne. After 5 months of following my Dermatologist's advice, I graduated from college and no longer have health insurance to be able to see another Dermatologist.

It was really tough having to walk at my graduation with a face full of acne. I would get a countless number of comments from people saying "what happened to your face!?" Even my best friend's mother said in front of everyone at the graduation reception, "You used to be so pretty, now you're ugly! What happened?" She didn't even congratulate me on graduating-- all she noticed was my skin. Needless to say, I felt like crying.

I just turned 22 and I'm determined to make up for being 21 and not having the courage to go out anywhere. I recently started taking Niacin supplements, Murad pure-skin clarifying supplements, and doubled my benzoyl peroxide routine. We'll see what happens from here.

Thanks for the support everyone-- it's good to finally feel that I'm not alone.
