Since this is the holistic board, I thought I'd bring back a topic I've posted about on other acne sites. There is a book called "Skin Deep: A Mind/Body Program for Health Skin" by Dr. Ted Grossbart and Dr. Carl Sherman that deals with skin diseases and the effects the mind can have on our skin. The skin is an organ and Grossbart and Sherman argue that the skin is very sensitive to emotions and physicological factors in addition to chemical and nutritional factors. If you have some spare time, its a pretty good read. It can get intense at times and it may be too much for people, but if you've been suffering from acne for a while, your mind may be hindering your progress.

Here's the link to the book's site I've never contacted him personally as I imagine its really expensive but its one more tool in the fight against acne.

Am planning on taking the following twice a day Just wanted to make sure it isn't too much:

  • 1 GNC Ultra Chromium Picolinate 800 (800 mcg of Chromium Picolinate and 15 mg of Zinc Picolinate)
  • 3 Vitamin Shoppe Taurine 500mg (500mg of L-Taurine and 10mg of Vitamin B6 as pyridoxine HCl)
  • 3 Nautre's Bounty Omega-3 Fish Oil 1200mg (1200 mg of Fish oil; total Omega-3 Fatt Acids 720mg)
  • 1 Origin Alpha Lipoic Acid 200mg (200 mg of ALA)
  • 2 Biotin 1000mcg (1mg of Biotin as d-Biotin)

My skin right now is pretty clear in the classical sense - a few spots here and there, but what I'm really trying to flush out are the clogged pores/blackheads. I don't have pictures but they cover my nose and inner cheeks completely. Add to that my very large pores and its not a win-win. I've been toying with my diet too and trying to avoid sugar/grains however I'm trying to gradually implement changes so they'll be longer lasting and I won't slip back into my bad habits.

So, just wanted to make sure what I'm taking isn't too much and is at least an educated shot at tackling clogged pores/blackheads. I welcome any advice/help!

After a long hiatus from this board and other health sites, I've returned to make a few changes. While I still have bad skin (I'm 22 with large pores+blackheads) its not nearly as bad as when I was in middle school. So while I'm still focused on my skin, I'm also thinking in terms of broader health. One step I'd like to take is doing a series of salt water flushes.

I've been reading up on them here and at curezone and am trying to get some feedback. SO if you have done salt water flushing, could you please post your experience.

Thanks eusa_dance.gif !

***This isn't about acne but its a game where you are tested about your international knowledge of manners. Since this is an international forum, though it may be acne related, I thought it would be appropriate for here! smile.gif ***
