Hi all, just curious, has anyone ever taken a multivitamin and gotten a cyst afterwards, maybe even though you don't normally get cysts?
This happened to me twice, a while ago before I knew much about acne I just figured it'd be good for me so I went to the grocery store and bought the cheapest multivitamin I could find. I took it a few times and this horrible thing... like this weird, mutated zit appeared on my cheek. So I got scared and stopped taking it. A few months later I got curious and tried again and lo and behold, a deep cyst appeared on my other cheek, the kind that sits beneath the skin and doesn't come to a head...
Since then I've learned that many multivitamins contain iodine which can in turn cause acne... no idea if the one I was taking had iodine but I'd suspect so.
Ever since then I've been terrified of supplements, especially since the pimples I think the vitamins caused were terrible and have left scars / discoloration.

Hey guys, i just came across Panthetine and it sounds like it can help. i have a couple of questions about it though and would really appreciate anyone who can answer some or all of them
1. Is it safe for a 16 year old male to take pantethine?
2. Does panthetine help with blackheads?
3. Once you start panthetine, do you need to continously take it even after you are clear?
4. Where can i buy panthetine and around how much does it usually cost?

i personally think it is crazy to take 10 grams of something to try and rid acne. I don't think its crazy to try and rid acne (cause i would do anything to get rid of it), but taking such high doses doesn't seem very smart.
After reading about pantethine (the active form of B-5), i'm wondering why people aren't trying it instead of b5? From what ive read, you get a better effect with a lot less to no side effects. Because you only have to take around 900 mg or so of pantethine, there will be no adverse side effects.
Has anyone tried pantethine that had no success with b5? or if you never used b5 but are having success with pantethine please share. I'm just curious as to why people are using this supplement that seems like a much healthier avenue than b5

My Mom recommended Vitamin A and Zinc to me since it helped her acne when she was younger. I now know Zinc and D3 are proven to help. I'm taking A, D3, and Zinc everyday (see signature for amounts)
I was wondering if the vitamin A is really going to help? The ingredients include Soybean Oil, Gelatin (non-bovine), Glycerin, Fish Liver Oil, Water.
CONTAINS: Fish (Sardine)
I'm not sure if this counts as fish oil or not? And will it help me or is it not really doing anything for me? Thanks.

Help please?

Where can you get Niacin? I want to try out the 100mg ones. Can you get it at stores like walmart? Or would I have to go to a heath store or something?

Hi, im a 18 year old guy trying to gain weight yet I have super oily skin and acne!@
What do you guys think I should start taking?
fyi: 6ft tall 130 lbs =[
My mom never had acne nor did my dad. My brother has bad acne alot worse then me and he never took care of his face and it's naturally going away since i guess his hormones are settling. I on the other hand am obsessed with taking care of my skin and eating healthy a little bit.
I feel that pills might be able to stop my breakouts any thoughts?

I'm taking Omega 3, a super-B complex pill, and zinc. I know its not because of the omega because I have taken that before without this problem. I just recently added in the super-B complex and zinc. After some google research I found that the super-B complex is causing my urine to be a bright neon yellow because of unused b-2 vitamins. Is this bad if I continue to take the super-b complex vitamin? I read on the net thats it bad for the kidneys because I'm making it work when it doesn't need to filter out the stuff..

Okay so I heard a lotta good things about zinc, so decided to give it a try
Got some zinium, this is what is contains
Zinc Picolinate (50mg which is equivalent to 9.51 mg Elemental zinc)
Selenium 20ug
Vitamin E 15iu
The box says to take three daily, but my brother tells me one is enough (he's not a doctor but is a graduate student in medicine), should I go with the box or listen to him =/ Thanks.

I am doing the Pantothenic Acid mega dosing for my skin and was wondering if taking Niacin as well would be too much?
Currently, I am taking 10g of PA 4 times a day, Fish Oil tablets 3 times a day and a stress b-complex once a day. I have been doing this for the last 2 weeks, about.
Would it be too much to add niacin to the mix or should I just wait until after the 3 months and am on the maintenance dose to add?

I just read about how excess iodine causes acne for some people, and my vegan multivitamin has 150mcg of iodine. I've been trying to find a vegan multivitamin that doesn't have iodine, but I haven't found one. Also, all the iodine free multivitamins I've found contain gelatin, which is an animal byproduct. So, does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm considering taking ZMA as I've heard it helps you to get a deeper sleep (I'm currently getting 9/10 hours a night and I think having a deeper sleep will meen I can sleep less?) and the zinc helps prevent acne.
Is there any truth in this - as these are two things that have been causing me distress lately. Also can it be used continuously with no negative side effects by a teenager?
Thanks.

I'm starting Niacin supplementation today... 400mg - Country Life Flush Free from Vitamin Shoppe. I heard it supposedly amazing for clearing acne. 500mg is the maximum daily dosage and after that, you can risk damage to your liver (not sure why.. haven't done extensive enough research on this). Niacin is an actiev ingredient in many common acne topicals and some prescription acne drugs, so there must be
something to it...
Can anyone comment on their experience?

I take multi vitamins for my general health, also hoping they would benefit my skin, i have 2 questions:
1. Is it better or worse for my skin? as iodine is bad, zinc is good, and it has 100% rda of both.
2. Can you get multivitamins without iodine?
thanks for all help

Hallo!
I just picked up some vitamins from Costco, and I'm looking for a little advice/suggestions on how many I should take and when. All together for my first meal? Half first meal, half at dinner?
My pills:
Zinc Gluconate (50g)
Planning on taking one.Cod Liver Oil (Doesn't say how much of the actual Cod Liver Oil there is.. it does say "20 Minim" on the front.. whatever that means. On the back it says 2 500 UI of Vitamin A from the Cod Liver oil)
Not sure how many of these to take?! 1 at one meal, 1 at the other? Or just one?Vitamin C with Rose Hips - Timed Release, Natural Sources (1000mg)
Planning on taking one.Vitamin D3 (1000 UI)
Planning on taking 1 at each meal. I don't get much sunlight ATM.
Vitamin E - Natural Sources (400 UI)
Not sure about this one. The bottle says 1-2. One at each meal? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

hi! ive read about how vitamin b5, zinc, fish oil helps reduce acne.
but one thing confuses me is that...of all the threads ive read so far...the dosage of each are different and i don't know which one is the right dosage for me.
so can anyone please tell me what is the recommended dosage for b5, zinc, and fish oil? i don't want to overdose even some people says its ok so...
my acne is mild to moderate right now. i got few big pimple(1-2) and the rest are really small. the rest are scars and my face is oily.
and one more question, i had a minor lung surgery about two months ago so i am wondering if taking these vitamins will affect my body in bad ways ?
thank you!

Maybe you guys can help me with this. A few months ago I found out about B5 being used for acne treatment, so I bought some from Clear5 (I know a lot of people here think they're a ripoff, but stay with me).
So for a month I took two pills with every meal (3,000mg a day), and after a month my skin was COMPLETELY cleared up. It was remarkable.
Then I ran out of money for a little over a month and couldn't buy anymore, then I got more money and was able to buy more. Of course during that month I broke out worse than I'd ever broken out before, but I knew that the B5 would fix it all up.
It's three weeks later and my skin is only slightly better than it was. I don't know why, but the B5 doesn't seem to have any effect on me at all. I'm even trying the liquid version now in case that my body isn't metabolizing the tablets very well.
It's also possible that my skin randomly cleared up (as it sometimes does) during the B5 period, and it wasn't actually the B5 after all. But that would be a hell of a coincidence.
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks.

Edit: One of the most frustrating things about acne to me is the vast number of variables that could be influencing it. For example, in the past three weeks I've been riding my bike 16 miles a day. I sweat a lot during those 16 miles, and I don't know if that's a factor. Also, when my face was clear, I was lifting weights. Maybe that helped. It's fucking frustrating.
Also, doctors don't seem to know shit about it.

Hello all! What a wonderful organisation i have stumbled upon.
I am now 28 and have always suffered from mild acne/blackheads and whiteheads but in the last 6 months or so it has developed in to moderate (feels like severe) acne. It favours my cheeks in swollen red clusters, but still will pop up wherever. I am guilty of picking

and struggle to leave them alone - especially when they sit on 'nerve' sensitive areas. After reading some posts i have sworn to resist!
I am interested in the info provided regarding the B3 and B5 vitamins. The multivitamins
(top quality) i am taking already contain, amongst other things, the following in total:
B6 21mg, B3 (nicotinic acid) 5mg, B3 (nicotinamide) 15mg, B2 (riboflavin) 14.25mg, B1 (thiamin Hydro) 14.25, Beta carotene 2.25mg, Zinc 41.6mg, Vit C (ascorbic acid) 925mg.
These vitamins make me feel better overall but has done zip for my acne.
I thought of adding in a B Complex containing;
Vitamin B1 (Thiamine hydrochloride) 50 mg
Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) 50 mg
Nicotinamide B3 100 mg
Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid from calcium pantothenate 50 mg) 45.8 mg
Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine hydrochloride) 50 mg
Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin) 100 µg
Choline bitartrate 50 mg
Vitamin H (Biotin) 50 µg
Inositol 50 mg
Folic Acid 300 µg
Do you think this is worth adding in and how much? It recommends 1 daily. I have to admit i am a little confused whether to take B3 on its own or if i could benefit from the full B Complex.
I really want to avoid the prescription meds if possible, no matter how desperate i get.
Thank you so much for ANY advice given. I am off now to do some further forum browsing.

I recently bought a pack of 500mg B5. I was planning to take the 20 capsules a day, in guidance with the recommendations on this site and others.
This does seem like an excessive dosage, and I am concerned about the side effects which people said result from other B vitamins being reduced within your body.
1) I have very mild acne. Could I see good results on taking just 10 capsules a day? Or would it not be worth it?
2) Would buying a B-complex pack and taking small doses of the pill help prevent a vitamin B deficiency, or does taking B-complex whilst on B5 prevent B5 from clearing acne?
3) Could I take 20 capsules a day for a month, and then move on to a lower dosage? Would the results be maintained?

In June I started adding Vitamin A capsules to my holistic health. The naturopath advised me to take 3 capsules a day (10000 IU each of retinyl palmitate) for only a month, to help my mild acne. In reality I only took this amount for a few weeks, and stopped after I forgot one day and felt worried it would disrupt the regime.
It has been over a month since I was taking 30000 IU a day and this Vitamin A is the kind that is not fat-soluble and can cause problems exceeding a month or two. I was wondering if this is an adequate break for my body to have processed the stuff so I can try another 1 month burst on Vitamin A?
I'm also taking at the moment: zinc chelate with a little added beta carotene, cod liver oil with added 1000 IU vitamin A

I am considering taking 250mg Niacin (with the flush). However, what brand do you purchase/advise me from not purchasing from? (also I'm going to take 250mg because I'm really afraid of the potency of a 500mg flush and I'm 5'6"/120lbs)
