Hey so before I decided to go with accutane, I bought some stuff:

-Fish oil pills
-Chelated 50mg Zinc pills
-B-50 Complex
-Vitamins C&E pills

I didnt end up using any of these on accutane but now I've been done with the treatment for about about 3 months (worked pretty well minus the redmarks) and a little bit of acne is coming back. I was thinking of using vitamins to see if it could help out.

I am definitly going to use the fish oil and the zinc but I was wondering how important the other 2 were? Also what are the chances of breaking out using the zinc?

Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)
Dosage: Minimum 90 - 2000 mg, No established toxicity
Info: It's an Antioxidant, needed for healthy gums, enhances immune function, reduce cholesterol level, lower blood pressure, prevent arteriosclerosis, promotes healthy cell development, strengthens the walls of capillaries, prevents blood clotting, promotes proper calcium absorption. Bioflavonoid is found naturally inside foods we eat. This is in part why Vitamin C tends to absorb better when found naturally than found in pill form. It is necessary that this be taken with Vitamin C or it won't absorb.

The B-Complex these would be categorized as the vitamins that have B-1 up to B-12 all in one capsule. Also you would typically find various amounts of Choline, Inositol, PABA, and Biotin inside the complex depending on the brand you buy.

Info: Enhance blood circulation, blood formation, and metabolism of carbohydrates, required for nervous system function, used to manufacture HCL.

Prevents muscle cramps, aids with muscle growth, required for muscle contraction, lowers cholesterol, provides energy, breaks down fats, healthy skin. It is possible that low blood calcium can cause high blood pressure.
There are several different forms of calcium, the most common is carbonate. Carbonate isn't the most bioavailable form of calcium because it requires extra amounts of stomach acid for it to be absorb, so it would be wise to take with or after a meal.
Citrate is a form that has a higher rate of absorption since it does not require stomach acid for it to absorb. But the catch is that it is more expensive to produce and requires that you take more off it to get the same amount of elemental calcium found in the carbonate form.
Also if you have issues with acid reflux or heart burn etc then it may be wise not to supplement with citrate since it would only make symptoms worse. Gluconate and lactate contain a very low amount of elemental calcium so you would have to more of it to get the same effects of carbonate form. Dolomite, oyster shell, and bone meal are natural forms of calcium that may contain trace amonut of heavy metals such as lead so it would be wise to avoid these forms.

Since taking the multi and B complex and a tweak in my cleansing routine, I have kept my acne away completely and have been able to wean myself off of the antibiotics (the only thing that would keep my acne under control before).

I don't want to take a multivitamin, and I'm trying to take the least amount of vitamins as possible.

What are the main vitamins that I should take to help heal my skin (red marks/redness)? And how much should I take daily?

I'm just posting this for future reference in case anyone looks into these vitamins as a possible acne treatment.

I was very hopeful when I read on pubmed about a vitamin treatment for acne called Nicomide. It was basically 750mg Niacinamide, 25mg Zinc, 400mg Folic Acid, and 2mg copper(because zinc causes you to lose copper).

While I did not take the brand name Nicomide, I bought all of the vitamins and took them at the same doses. I spent approximately a month on that routine and it seemed to have no effect at all on my acne.

I have experimented with high doses of fish oil as well. 9 grams of high potency (extra EPH/DHA) fish oil every day. I do think this helps the appearance of the skin, since it is a documented anti-inflammatory, but it was unable to prevent new acne from forming. I followed this high dose regimen for months by the way, and had a pretty bad break out near the end which led me to believe the fish oil wasn't as effective as I thought.

So I'm a female in my mid-twenties with no major health problems. I take a multivitamin and am thinking about starting to take extra calcium. I think I have my bases covered with that, but I just wanted to see if there was anything else I should be taking to prevent problems in the future. What is your daily vitamin regimen, and why do you take what you take?

I'm thinking about starting to take supplements to help my skin. I know that no supplement will "cure" my acne, but I figure that by supporting my health and wellness in general, my skin may show some benefits.

Anyone know of specific vitamins, minerals, or combinations that support skin health? I know that vitamins E and A are important...any others?

i take multivitamin+zinc everyday it has improved my energy and my skin seems to be slightly better because of it but im not sure. it hasnt made a HUGE difference,

I need some advice. My acne started in 5th grade. I'm 30 yrs old now.
I tried everything under the sun from the OTC products, prescription
meds, facials, etc. It pretty much calmed down in my early twenties
but I still had sporadic breakouts that drove me crazy. I would also
have periods where my back and face would break out with big cysts.

I consider my "magic pill" for acne to be Spironolactone. The spiro
worked quickly for me and kept me clear. I would get compliments
from people asking me what I was using for my skin. I stopped taking
it at one point because I thought I no longer needed it but the breakouts
came back a couple of months later. I went back on it and my face
quickly cleared up again. I didn't have any side-effects accept for
extra bathroom breaks since it also acts like a mild diuretic.

Well, in November of last year I started having some health issues.
It didn't have anything to do with the Spiro. I was put on a couple
of prescription meds. Since I had to take a number of different
exams, blood tests, and the new meds, I decided to stop taking the
spiro. Eventually, I ended up being told that I was probably having
some myofascial pain and my vitamin D level was low.

So... fast forward to now, I started experiencing cystic acne breakouts
again. I decided to try a new search for a natural alternative to treating
it before going back on Spiro. I came across info on Omega 369 and
ALA. After researching it, I decided to give it a try. My face is clear
right now and here's what I've been taking on a daily basis:

Vitamin D - 1000 I.U. (one per day)

Omega 3-6-9 - 1000mg per day

Alpha Lipoic Acid - 300mg per day

I also take a Hair Vitamin which contains (per serving)
Vitamin A - 10,000 IU
Biotin - 2500 mcg
Vitamin B-1, Vitamin B-2, Vitamin B-3 (all 5mg each)
Vitamin B-5 - 100mg
Vitamin B-6 - 5mg
Vitamin B-9 - 200mcg
Vitamin B-12 - 20mcg
Vitamin C - 100mg
Vitamin D - 100 IU
Biotin - 2500mcg
MSM - 750mg
Gelatin - 190mg
Silica - 30mg

As I said, my face is clear right now (knock on wood) but what has
me bothered is this discoloration patch on my cheek that some may
say looks like melasma. About 3 weeks ago, I had a small pimple
there. I used an at home microdermabrasion cream and think I may
have been to harsh with massaging it into my skin because from
that day that area turned a dark red/purple color. I thought it was
just temporary but it didn't go away.

I tried my usual home TCA peel and after it peeled it looked lighter
but still wasn't gone. I've done an at home salicylic peel since then
and used Tri-luma for 1.5 weeks (which usually works fast for me)
and the discoloration is still there. In fact, it was looking better before
the salicylic peel and now it looks worse again. I'm fair skin and it
looks like a brown/reddish patch.

I read that zinc, MSM and Vitamin C helps a lot with fading spots.
I'm already getting 750mg of MSM in my hair vitamin but can
someone recommend a multivitamin or something that has enough
zinc (my supplements don't contain any as shown above) MSM
(keeping in mind that I already take 750mg of it) and Vitamin C?

I take enough pills each day which I'm not crazy about so I am
looking for an "all-in-one" pill to add to my current regimen. The
only thing I have come across that sounds like it has the MSM,
Vit C, and zinc is Emergen-C and VitaMedica Healthy skin. Can
anyone help me out with some advice?

How much Taurine should I take for acne purposes?

I've been researching different non-prescription ways to help keep your skin clear and read the effectivness of vitamins in your daily nutrition do help with acne.

I see alot of post with individuals consuming 4-10 different pills a day from Vitamin A, E, B, Zinc, and more.

I've even seen a product call Dermaklear Akne Zyme that is a pill with all the vitamins that claims to help with acne.

My question is:

Why can't you just take One-A-Day? It has all the major vitamins for healthy skin AND MORE (for men, it has vitamins for a healthy prostate, heart, ect).

Wouldn't that be alot easier...AND...cheaper?!!!

Hi, I've had acne for about 4-5 years now and it's really getting to me. My face tends to be VERY red and SUPER oily. So I went to the dermatologist, and he prescripted me Duac, Fougera Clindamycin Phosphate Lotion, and Tretinoin Cream USP. After using them for a while, my acne seemed to be going away but my skin was much redder(Sp?) and dryer (also oily at the same time) so I stopped using it. So instead of the acne medication (I still use the Cleanser that came with Duac and the Lotion), I began taking the following every morning and night:

Chromium Picolate (200 mcg)
Vitamin A (8000IU) from fish liver oil
Super B-Complex (Thiamin 29mg / Riboflavin 37 mg / Niacin 24 mg / Vitamin B6 28 mg / Folic Acid 100 mcg / Biotin 30 mcg / Pantothenic Acid 30 mg)
Vitamin C (500 mg)
Vitamin E (400 I.U.)
After about 2 weeks, my skin started to get better. Alot better. My friends were telling me how nice my skin had become. The results are amazing but it didn't completely cure my skin. I still breakout occasionally and my skin still oily and slightly red.
I've read somewhere that if you take 10 grams of Vitamin B5(Pantothenic Acid) everyday, it would pretty much have the same effect as accutane(Extreme high dose of Vitamin A) except without the really bad side effects. I've also read that when taking such a high dosage of Vitamin B5, you need to take B complex with it. So my question is, how much of B complex do you need to take? And would the othe supplements that I'm taking interfere with the B Vitamins?

Hi, great site/forums and I've been browsing and thought I'd make a post about my daily routine to see what others thought. I've bought some of Dan's BP yet I'm trying to do without it since my skin is very delicate. If after a month or two I've still not pleased with the results I'm going to start using it. I've cut out all junk foods and alcohol from my current lifestyle. I've just recently am giving up Dairy. I have a different working schedule then most so I put times of meals also.

12:00-1:00ET
-I start the day with a shower then use Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Bar to wash my face.
-First meal I take a large class of Orange Juice with Vitamin D and healthy choices to eat. Usually some sunflower seeds/fruits & vegetables/Apple Sauce/ Kashi 7 Grain Crackers and some lean blackforest ham sliced. This meal is usually the same daily.
-Alpha Lipoic Acid I take 300mg pill
-I take a Omega 3 pill
-I take 3 Herpanacine pills, recommends 3 twice daily.
Around 6:00-7:00ET
-Second meal I drink water and have healthy choices to eat. Wide variety of foods eaten but most healthy. Try to keep pasta servings small. I sometimes have a cup of Coffee after eating.
-Alpha Lipoic Acid I take 300mg pill
-I take a Omega 3 pill
-I take 3 Herpanacine pills
-Multivitamin Men’s One A Day, mostly for the higher Vitamin A levels
-I take a 500mg of Vitamin C chewable tablet
Around 11:00-12:00ET I workout for 45min-1Hour daily. Cardio five days a week and strength training twice a week.
Around 12:00-1:00ET
-Eat 2 oranges, Kashi 7 Grain Crackers(2 servings about 20 crackers, 40g's worth(there small) and eat 2 cans of chunk light tuna. Nothing added just eat the tuna plain with water.
Around 3:00ET
-Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser to wash my face
-Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion, Fragrance Free
Head to sleep around 4:00ET.

The main thing I'm trying to do is to heal my body from the inside out before going to the BP method, since I've tried it before and am very sensitive to it. The vitamins I take are cornered around Zinc/VitaminC/Fish Oils/Alpha Lipoic Acid and Vitamin A. The Herpanacine has some different ingredients in it but it came highly recommend from a friend of mine so I thought I'd take it as well.

So finally questions
Are there any problems with my current routine? Maybe I'm mixing supplements I shouldn't? Eating something I shouldn't? Pretty much any feedback is greatly appreciated. I've been doing this routine for almost a week now yet just gave up dairy from it yesterday and I'm feeling like I have more energy and I think my face is showing slight improvement yet it's too early to tell. I've had acne for about 6 years now slight to moderate. I'm 21 years old.

I started taking vitamin B-50, Calcium/Magnesium/D, and E recently and the last two times I have urinated it has been bright yellow. What is the cause?
