Simple Refreshing Facial Wash Gel
Oxy on the Spot (on individual spots only)
Simple Kind to Skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser
For the past two years i've been using just a cleanser followed by 10AHA smoothing lotion, but they seem to have stopped working as well, so i think it's time for a change. Plus i've decided they're too expensive to keep using but the new products are all cheap and easily available so i'll let you know how i get on with them. My skin is mostly oily, but gets dry in winter months, probably due to alot of outdoor exercise.
The only thing is, i'd like to use a gentle scrub 1 or 2 times a week to keep blackheads at bay. Can anybody recommend a good one?

Ok, it's time to put this issue to bed. What are the best moisturisers that are available in the UK either online or in the shops?
I've spent the last two weeks investigating this topic and have been bombarded with contradictory anecdotal evidence, bad ingredient lists, and overblown manufacturers claims.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LET'S FIND THE BEST!
Ok, what I want everybody to do is post a moisturiser that you think has been working for you, or one you're looking to try out. Make sure to post the ingredients list and highlight any potential problem ingredients-
Check the ingredients against the ingredients lists at:
- Paula Begoun's Ingredient Dictionary @ cosmeticscop.com
- Becoming an Acne Detective Article @ zerozits.com
- Search for the ingredient @ cosmeticsdatabase.com
Please:- Highlight bad ingredients in RED.
Make sure all three sources confirm the ingredient as either an irritant or comedogenic. Examples of bad ingredients include things like
Alcohol Denat.,
Isopropyl Myristate, and
Sodium Lauryl Sulphate.
- Highlight questionable ingredients in ORANGE
Only highlight an ingredient as questionable where there are contradictory descriptions from the three sources, or where the ingredient is described as being low risk or only a
possible irritant/pore clogger.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll begin. I've been looking at a few recently so here goes:
Olay Classic Care Active Beauty Fluid (Sensitive)
IngredientsAqua, Glycerin, Sorbitan Stearate, Dimethicone, Paraffinum Liquidum, Petrolatum, Cetyl Ricinoleate, Sucrose Cocoate, Dimethiconol,
Cetyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol,
Methylparaben,
Glyceryl Hydroxystearate, Stearic Acid, Steareth-100,
Tetrasodium EDTA, Potassium Carbomer, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer,
Propylparaben,
Palmitic Acid,
Myristyl Alcohol,
Stearyl Alcohol,
Myristic AcidBrief reviewThis is probably the best moisturiser I've found in terms of the ingredients list. Note that most of the questionable ingredients are found at the bottom of the ingredient list meaning that they make up such a small percentage of the product that they probably won't cause any problems. Furthermore, this is the only moisturiser I've read about online that NOBODY has complained about. It's also worth noting that in the thread: 'Biggest Mistakes People Make to Treat Acne', The_Snow_Queen mentions a number of times that the Olay moisturisers and sunscreens are usually decent.
I'll be buying this in the next few days, so I'll report back on this is due course.
Nivea For Men Sensitive Moisturiser
Ingredients Aqua, methylpropanediol, dicaprylyl ether, glycerin, hydrogenated coco-glycerides, trilsostearin, cyclomethicone, glyceryl stearate citrate,
ethylhexyl, methoxycinnamate,
cetyl alcohol, c12-15 alkyl benzoate, behenyl alcohol,
myristyl myristate, panthenol, tocopheryl acetate, niacinamide, glycyrrhiza inflata (glycyrrhiza inflata root extract),
bisabolol,
chamomilla recutita (chamomile extract),
glycine soja (soybean oil),
butylene glycol, sodium carbomer, titanium dioxide, alumina, silica, sodium polyacrylate, tetrasodium iminodisuccinate,
bht, phen-oxyethanol,
methylparaben, ethylparaben,
propylparaben.
Brief review
Not just for the boys, just like the womens' moisturisers aren't just for the girls. Anyways, I believe this moisturiser has recently been renamed and repackaged from its original name of 'Extra Soothing Moisturiser'. If anybody spots any differences between the two ingredient lists, let me know. This product has a small amount of UVB & UVA protection, but Nivea don't state exactly how much - an American guy on youtube mentions SPF 4, but I've never found anything to back this up. Anyways, most of the questionable ingredients seem fairly benign. The only major irritants that popped up apart from the Myristyl Myristate, were the chamomile and soy bean extracts.
Overall, not the best I've seen, but certainly not the worst. The UVA/UVB protection may be enough for the gloomy British weather?
I have used this in the past and I remember it being quite thin. I might give it a miss this time around though, since I'll be using a completely seperate sunscreen to my moisturiser. The potential irritants are also a worry.

I bought the Murad acne kit for the 1st time last week, have now used it 3 times, and have brokrn out in a severe rash all over my face and neck, My face is now very itchy, red and with small whiteheads all over. The Skin feels leathery, My eyes are swollen and red all around.
I am 38 with adult acne and have tried many products since my teenage years, but have never had such a severe reaction to anything like I have had with this product.
The L'oreal Acne kit was brilliant, but bought this one cause they are out of stock. I totally regret doing this and wish i'd read the reviews on this product before. It appears the majority of users experience the same adverse effect.
Would not recomend it to anyone.

Hi.. Ok so i have decided to try dans regime.. And i guess its going good so far however i have a slight problem im using duac instead of the Bp other than that i am following the regime so i am using a moisturizer - Nivea Soft Moisturising Cream but after i put this on my face stings like MAD it just stings to much.. My routine is by cleansing my face with Johnson's refreshing facial wash and then applying duac onto my face which does dry my face and maybe stings abit but after when i apply the moisturizer my face stings so much that i feel like my face is burning

.. Is there any suggestions on good moisturizer's or any other basic routines i need to follow? Or maybe other successful regime's?

I've ordered Dan's starter kit but I've heard alot of UK residents saying that they are getting charged by customs (I'll have to wait and see). After mine comes (it's taking forever), I may look for alternative products in the UK. I've used Jan Marini products in the past, however I've just seen that there is a 2.5% benzoyl peroxide available. Lots of people are saying that appropriate cleansers and moisturisers are easy to obtain in the UK, so maybe Jan Marini's Benzoyl Peroxide is an appropriate treatment option?
You can get her products through e-bay and other websites, as well as from professional dernatologists, clinics etc.

I was just wondering how much success anyone has had with the glycolic acid products from the
Bravura London website? I was thinking about buying the 15% gylcolic acid night moisturiser and the 10% glycolic acid mouisturiser for the day.

Hi,
I have been a long time user of the Regimen - nearly 5 years in fact. My acne is very mild, I get around one spot every week. However, this one spot is normally a cyst-like creature - around 1cm big and in the exact same part of my face.
They last 3 days and I can;t believe at 24 I still need to deal with these. My skin also gets quite oily and have realised a direct link between an increased oily period and one of these little buggers appearing.
So I want to speak to a Dermatologist about the problem - see if there is any way they can sort the oiliness especially, and therefore these nasty occasional spots.
I was planning to visit Harley Street - does anyone have any recommendations please? Anywhere in London or surrounding areas would be good. All comments very gratefully received

Thanks!!!

I found this Quinoderm Cream over the counter at Tesco's pharmacy yesterday and thought I'd give it a try.
Its 10% BP and 0.5% Potassium Hydroxyquinoline Sulphate (not familiar with that one!

)
I've been on prescription Isotretinoin gel for about 4 weeks now and it hasn't made much difference so far. I applied the Quinoderm last night before bed and woke up with the calmest looking skin I've had in months! The active acne I had is drying up and the red marks left by old spots have faded to pink.
I know its very early days but so far so good, its also good under moisturiser and make-up which is a bonus.
I'm intending to use this in the morning and continue with the Isotretinoin at night to give it a chance.
I looked on the Quinoderm website and they have a face wash and wipes which they didn't have in Tesco's....anyone tried these or have tried the cream? I'd love to know what results other's have had

When I order the regimen off the site it costs so much on taxes its almost a put off. Most US websites I order off (and I order of a few) just state "gift" on the product and this way I avoid having to pay any fees which keeps me the customer happy and wanting to purchase more. However having to pay a ridiculous amount on international shipping (more than most other US based companies) and then a hefty international custom fee is really taking the piss to be quite frank.
Please Dan sort this out , just add "gift" on the item and you can avoid it. I know it may be inappropriate to add this (as technically its not a gift) but in this day and age you have to use the loop holes to survive in the business world, hence almost every international company I order of which is foreign does this.
I'm not trying to rant but just so this gets noticed please take care of your international customers some way or another as well as your domestic. We too are a big potential market.

I noticed you can get 5% ibruprofen sports gels in all the supermarkets and chemists where I live, I assume it's the same elsewhere.
I wondered if it would help my acne, so I bought it and cautiously started using it on my face once a day. It seemed to improve and then I stopped and it got worse, then I started again, and it improved so I upped it to twice a day, and OMFG, yeah!
Results after a few months were spectacular, the number of spots went down by about 20 times (when used with 5% tea tree oil cream-both twice a day) and my skin tone was hugely better. You'd think it would make existing spots shrink, and it probably does, but what it seems to do best is prevent spots. Dunno why exactly.
I'm thinking it should work just as well with BP, but my skin loathes BP so I haven't been able to try it- if you try this, just don't put it on at the *same* time, leave an hour after BP or something or put the ibuprofen on half an hour before. They're just bound to quarrel, the BP will mess up the Ibuprofen, I just know it. Probably nothing bad would happen, but the ibuprofen wouldn't work.
I'm also thinking that other UK people need to try this. It's invisible, non irritating and a 35g tube lasts about a month for me, so not terribly expensive.
You should be able to use it with anything like BP, tea tree oil or antibacterial facial washes.
Honestly, nothing I've ever got over the counter has worked nearly this well for me. Others need to try this.

Hi, I ordered Dan's BP online 4 weeks ago today, I live in the UK and still haven't recieved anything. I'm pretty sure when I ordered it last time it came within a week or two. How long does everyone else have to wait usually for their order? Should I be worried?
Sorry for all the questions

First decided to start treating my spots properly in January 08, I washed with a clean+clear cleanser and used Quinoderm which took me from quite bad spots to a situation i was happy with.
18 months on, I have realised there is no way Quinoderm is going to cure me as recently I have lapsed into spots just as bad as I had ages ago, despite religiously cleansing, quinoderming and moisturising every morning+night (plus applying quinoderm a few times during the day if i could remember)
I think maybe my skin is too used to it.. my girlfriend put some on a spot and said it stung, whereas if i put bloody loads all over my face i dont feel anything
I have bought some ibuprofen gel as reccomended in the other thread.. but I am worried that coming completely off benzoyl peroxide will make me much worse
The reason i'm posting now is that all summer i've been willing the gods to just let me clear up for uni, but i leave in a week and i'm worse than i have been in ages. rgghhhghghg
I basically dont know what to do. Will answer any questions and gratefully thank you for any advice you give, please help me! In the UK so thought i would post here.

Im currently trialing a Simple brand sunscreen but I have a feeling it's resposnisble for some breakouts. Is anyone using a sunscreen that isn't breaking them out? I don't want to carry on much longer with this stuff as it defeats the point of me using BP.
Thanks.

Hi Everyone,
Apologies for posting this here since antibiotics are not Regimen supplies, but it's the closest we have to a UK-specific forum.
--------------------------------------
From a reporter at the BBC:
Have you been prescribed antibiotics for acne in the UK?
Horizon, the BBC's flagship science series, is making a documentary about pharmaceuticals. For a section of this programme we will explore the use of antibiotics in the treatment of acne. If you have been prescribed antibiotics in the past or are taking them now for acne, we would be interested in hearing from you.
At this stage, we are conducting background research for the programme, and you will be under no obligation to take part if you contact us.
Please email leili.farzaneh@bbc.co.uk or call Leili on 020 8008 0304.

Hello. I have only been on the regimen for 3-4-ish days. I started on Monday Night.
Monday: Night only.
Tuesday: Morning and Night
Wednesday: Morning and Night. Moisturised twice at night.
Thursday: Morning only
Today(Friday): Morning and Night, skipped BP at night.
My products are
Cleanser: Simple(moisturising) Foaming Facial Wash
BP: PanOxyl Aquagel 2.5
Moisturiser: Simple Rich Moisturiser
The amounts I use are
Cleanser: 1 fingers length, although thin line
BP: Half finger
Moisturiser: A bit more that half a fingers length.
My cleanser makes my face really dry. If I stretch my mouth, my cheeks hurt and if I stretch even more by lifting my upper cheeks(the part that lifts when you wink), it is painful, although not excruciating.
I started to feel the BP burn on Wednesday after moisturising.
I wait about 10-15 minutes between cleanser, BP and moisturiser.
Is it normal for my skin to be really dry?
After everything is put on, my face feels harder to move. I also have small thin wrinkles which I think are because of the dryness. I am only 20.
I also noticed that after just using the cleanser my face feels heavier. Am I using too much?
Should I get another cleanser?
I had to put on moisturiser twice on Wednesday night, 10 minutes apart. My face has been getting dryer.

Hey all,
As the title says has anyone tried this? I'm a bit skeptical but i saw it in my local Lloyds Pharmacy and picked it up. Was about £7 though so don't want to try it without any kind of feedback about it.
Says on the pack its a new Zyalight formula (?) and fades away age spots, freckles, uneven skin tone and other dark pigmentation marks.
Ingredients are:
aqua, lactic acid, sodium lactate, ethoxydigycol, ethylhexyl metho xycinnamate, cetearyl alcohol, glyceryl stearate, peg-100 stearate, dimethicone, decyl oleate, glycerin, stearyl alcohol, ceteareth-20, phenoxyethanol, sodium saccharin, methylparaben, parfum, arctostaphylos uva ursi leaf extract, disodium edta, glyceryl oleate, butylene glycol, glycyrrhiza glabra extract, morus bombycis leaf extract, butylparaben, ethylparaben, isobutyllparaben, propylpaaben, geraniol, citronellol, ascorbyl palmitate, tocopherol, bht, citric acid, ci 77891
Thanks in advance beauties

(posted in this forum as it's a UK based product as far as i'm aware but feel free to move it to the hyperpigmentation/red mark section if needed)

First off - I can't spell moistoriser (I think) and I cannot be bothered to check the spelling so please don't point out to me that I've spelt it wrong (if I have)!
I'm on the hunt for a couple of good moistoristers which I can purchase in the UK. Preferably two different ones i.e. one for the day with a good SPF factor and one for the evening which is hydrating.
Anyone know any goodens'?
I used to use Nivea lotion non-greasy for normal skin and that was OK. It has no spf factor though. It didn't leave an oily or wet feel to the skin and absorbed rather painlessly. However, despite being extremely inexperienced in the field of moistorisers (and surprisingly, female!), I'm inclined to think that there's better one's out there, and I want to find them! (As long as there in the UK

) Also, as with my other post on facial washes, I'd be deeply interested on other member's opinions on the Nivea moistoriser I commented on as well as their opinions and evaluations of other moistoriser products.
Thanks again

Hey

So, I'm stocking up on products for the regimen but obviously, being in the UK, its incredibly expensive and therefore difficult to get hold of Dan's products.
SO! I would love to hear some recommendations and evaluations of products you guys have bought and used in the UK (facial wash products only though. I plan on opening up another thread on moistorisers in the UK too and would like to keep these two seperate to avoid confusion and hassle).
Atm, I use Clean and Clear deep cleansing wash, but I'd love to try some other products. Also, if anyone else uses this too, I'd be deeply interested in their opinion on the product too.
Thanks guys

hi
has anyone had a bad reaction to Simple products?
I started off using a boots wash and a Lush moisturizer. I heard they were bad for your skin so i switched to Simple products, mixing a bit of Jojoba oil in too. After I used the moisturizer my face felt hot and prickly. My skin went bright pink in the mornings and I got a rash where i used the product on my neck.
Thing is, it sounds like side effects from BP too and I'm not sure which it is, or whether its the Jojoba oils.

Argh. I don't want to test and play around to find out which it is cos my skin is all blotchy and red

I have very sensitive skin due to Proactiv Solutions basically ravaging my skins natural oils and defenses.
I have been on a number of different products through the years, and my very persistent moderate acne only came to solution with accutane, but two months later and im suffering from a much more minor form of the same problem, tiny bumps and oil.
My skin is by no means clear altogether, i still battle with it, but it definitely has improved and accutane is to blame, no doubt, but i also believe making your skin LESS reliant in products with a less-is-more ethos can also help.
RECOMMENDED BY ME
- DEAD SEA SPA MAGIK range.
Now i had been breaking out recently and suddenly realised my dead sea spa magik cleanser had been coming out of the tube a little weirdly, but i gave it the benefit of the doubt. The breakouts started to clear, but i think they really have calmed since i started mixing this in with Dan's own cleanser and followed with a moisturiser. Perhaps on it's own it's a tad too drying.
ANYWAY, Dead Sea Spa are available in Holland and Barrats and are FANTASTIC. They are full of natural ingredients and spot-fighting stuff, they do a sulphur soap too and have a great spot-zapping stick which kills inflammation and also injects some spot fighting ingredients to your skin.
The only thing im hesitant on is their scrub, but my skin remains sensitive post-accutane. Seriously a hidden gem for UK skin sufferers.
I can double the endorsement with the woman who recommended it to me, a long-time acne now roscea sufferer. She found other products and treatments only ever made things worse, just as i did, and when she simplified her regime and only used this and a moisturizer, her skin dramatically cleared.
It's free of parabens, animal friendly, almost all natural and it's pretty much non-comodgenic.
-EUCERIN 5% UREA
Great moisturiser, for a while i suspected it was breaking me out but I think it's one i've used persistently through different stages of my acne in the past year and certainly helped a boatload on accutane.
- TEA TREE OIL
Varying degrees of efficiency during different stages of my skin issues, Im back using this to spot treat and it does a pretty decent job.
- PROACTIV SULPHUR MASK
By far the best mask ive ever used. This mask literally dried spots up overnight. Unbelievably efficient at that. Id attribute a boatload of my proactiv success to this mask. Expensive, though.
-NIVEA FOR MEN SUMMER LOOK
Now this product cannot be guaranteed to be non-comodgenic, i actually emailed Nivea to find out that it was not non-comodegenic because i LOVED the product. It has a great, even tan, makes the skin so soft and even and moisturizes all day, loaded with Vitamins and with UVA/UVB protection. It makes the skin matte and the tanning effect covers red marks.
However, I would really like to find the ingredient list and see just how comodogenic it really is, because this is a fantastic moistruiser i used for the year of clarity with pro-activ. I mean, in retrospect id like to blame this moistruiser for congesting my pores since i broke out so badly after proactiv, but i think the truth is the bacteria on my face simply adapted to proactiv, or my hormones shifted to more agressively produce acne.
I'd LOVE to hear from anyone in the UK who's used Nivea moisturizers or Nivea for Men products. I miss using this.
- NIVEA YOUNG TINTED MOISTURISER and NIVEA YOUNG MOISTURISER.
I am on the border about the latter, which claims to have "Ocean Minerals" which is an instant alarm bell for me, but also claims to be oil-free and non comodogenic. The former, though, is okay for covering up red marks, but is also sort of obvious if you don't moisturise previous to applying it. It's kind of a decent cover up option for people really feeling the self-esteem crunch. It wont clog your pores, either.
-ROACCUTANE
No brainer. Serious side-effects, had a lower than usual and short dose which might explain the return of minor acne so soon, but very worth it.
PRODUCTS IVE TRIED BUT DON'T FEEL HELPED
- PAULA'S CHOICE 2% BHA
Now i'd like to say a few things about this. I gave Paula's Choice a good week or two, and in those two weeks, my skin definitely showed worsened effects. It became oilier and i broke out faster than usual. I eventually flung my full BHA bottle in the trash because it seemed to do nothing beneifical. I used the toner-type liquid applied with a pad. Perhaps a lotion might be more suitable. Does anyone else seem to not react to BHA?
- Neturogena's Moisturiser
- Neutrogena's 2 in 1
- Biore Warming Scrub
NOT RECOMMENDED
- ANY AND ALL LUSH PRODUCTS.
Lush was the worst product of all time for my face. RAVED about by everyone around me, i tried it, to epic failure and massive breakouts. Coalface and Angels on Bare Skin were the culprits. AVOID.
- PANOXYL
Tried using this as a replacement to Proactiv, didn't work at all
- DAN'S BP GEL
Hated this one more than any BP product, sorry Dan, the consistency was a particular issue for me, making it harder for my skin to absorb due to its goopy, runny nature. I think post-proactiv my skin was on a wild rampage anyway, but Dan's BP did NOTHING to make my skin better, infact it aggravated my acne further. Perhaps my skin had developed a sudden allergy to BP.
- CLEAN & CLEAR BLACKHEAD SCRUB
recommended to me by a friend who claims it cleared her up, this is just proof that every skin type is different, and for me, this was a disaster of epic breakout proportions.
- ISHTAR SKINLIGHTS' MANDELIC FACE WASH.
Unfortunately this great company have made a crappy mandelic acid face cleanser which feels oily, smells strongly of fruit and does no great work on the cleansing front itself. Infact it broke me out
- PROACTIV SOLTUIONS
Now let me make this clear, at the time, proactiv was the best friend i ever had. But I now believe that applying Benzoyl Peroxide as a preventative solution for acne is not a good idea. It really did fuck my skin up bigstyle. It both gave me a year of flawlessly clear skin then took it away from me with crushing force, no matter how hard i tried to rectify with more benzoyl peroxide, it just agressively worsened.
- A ZILLION PRESCRIPTION PRODUCTS.
I'd say out of them all, DUAC probably worked the best for me. Duac was effective for about two weeks then stopped dead in working, but those two weeks were two weeks more than RETIN-A, Doxycycline and a zillion other topicals could provide.
Beware of BP based products, imo. I am not sure how my skin really reacts to Salcylic Acid

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone here knows of any UK-based websites that sell mandelic acid?
Thanks.
